Closings Confirmed
The Lodge has been notified that the 019 & 021 District closings will be effective on Sunday, March 4, 2012.
Officers working the 3rd watch on Saturday, March 3, 2012 will report to their current District of Assignment for roll call to pick up their car and radio. These Officers will check off in the 023rd District or 002nd District. Transport vans will be available to assist these Officers in picking up their personal vehicles.
Officers working the 1st watch on Saturday night for March 4, 2012 will report to their current District of Assignment for roll call to pick up their car and radio. These Officers will check off in the 023rd District or 002nd District. Transport vans will be available to assist these Officers in picking up their personal vehicles.
Officers working the 2nd watch on Sunday, March 4, 2012 will report to their new unit of assignment.
Unit designators will be distributed to those members assigned to a new unit. Officers assigned to the new 019th Town Hall District will receive key cards for access to the building prior to the change.
The 021st District Station will be locked at 0800 hours on Sunday, March 4, 2012. Any locker that is not vacated will have the lock cut off, the contents removed, and those contents inventoried. Officers should make every attempt to notify a member who is on furlough, extended medical, etc.
The Department intends on making the Area changes effective Sunday, March 4, 2012, but has not released any details on the moves. The Department is working with other City services to repair the parking lot at Area 1. Signage will be in place on Wentworth Avenue to designate additional parking spaces. The heliport at Area 1 will be converted to additional parking spaces.
Hold on tight. We're sure this little shake-out cruise is going to be a bit bumpy for a while.

im not from 021 or 023 but picking up your radios for the last time in the building and walking out is pretty sad. End of an era. I worked in housing and we were in 021 alot... many many good times in that building in the 90s.. kind of a shame. Lots of history and good times. Proud to say that I was able to work in the duece and 021 when the real Prarie dogs worked there when all the buildings were up. 90-96 were some kick ass years up in those buildings... ahhh, the memories and stories... I would tell them the statute of limitations was up hahahahaha!!!

They should close down the 16th dist. Both printers at the front desk are broken,(ticket for repair is from 17 feb) not repaired yet, they are using the fax machine to print everything at front dest. Printer in processing room is broken. 3 out of 5 computers are broken in processing room. Computer in front room by desk is broken (when you bring in tvb you can't run check or print from that computer). This department is a fucking joke. H.B.

SCC: I too have been getting LONG screen hangups, browser lockups lately. Started about 4 days ago but I hadn't been to the site in a few days before that. I see you are running three trackers (Quantcast, Scorecard Research Beacon and Sitemeter). If one is a recent addition that may be the problem? I have them blocked but I regularly visit sites that have 8 or more trackers and don't have this problem. Something weird is going on with your site and you can't be too paranoid considering the times/place we live.

Harold, it's stuff like that that caused me to retire. I love the job as much as you do but I couldn't take the BS from this chickenshit department anymore. The working conditions for the street copper are ridiculous. And no one seems to care. Like you said, broken down computers,printers that don't work, ridiculous missions designed by house mouses that wouldn't know a bad guy if one bit them in the ass, the list of things wrong is endless. "Our department " has come and gone. It's not the same department it was twenty or even fifteen years ago. I suggest you get out now while you can. Guy's like you (and by that I mean outstanding coppers) are one beef away from taking some time off because of some inside puke trying to avoid working the street or losing a substansial amount of money because of the brain dead jury pool that is only seen in this democraptic cesspool of Shitcago or Crook County.

The latest rumor is that the commander of 019 (Kenny) is going to 016 and raking his XO with him. XO Lenti from 016 is going to be an inspector (trying to get him to put in his papers I guess).
That makes CPD sense. McNaughton lives in 016 assigned to 008, Kenny lives in 008 will be assigned to 016. With gas at $4.00 a gallon why not?

The canary that was singing in your ear is incorrect. Firstly, you probably meant to say that the 019th District PO's didn't get to bid, not the 023rd District PO's. 019 is closing, not 023.
Second, 019th District Personnel are being "detailed" to 023 for 90 days, not assigned. This will take that personnel through the G8/NATO Summit, and possibly be used for that purpose.
Well they check off at their new stations how are they going to get back to their old stations to get their personnel cars. Is the department going to shuttle them or are they on their own.

The side employee door handles broke off and have been replaced by flexcuffs. The lock-up is closed. The printer at the front desk and in the processing room haven't worked since december (that's when the repair tickets were made. One of the holding cells has a broken lock and can't be used. The "quiet" room and a garage have been converted into locker rooms. And this building is the neweest police station in the city -just over 1 year old. We are all really fucked.

You just summed it up...don't forget that the station is also Next to a School Zone on Fremont/Addison. The Unit Secretary tried parking in the school zone once on a school day. Got ticketed by Revenue. And for the 019 district refugees; Addison is Rush Hour 7am-9am/4pm-6pm and Permit from 6pm to 6am (383 permit). We go through the Police Lots checking for City Stickers and Expired Plates and No Front Plates as well.

I was just at Ohare watching the DOA swat team train. They were pretty impressive seeing that just like other DOA officers they dont carry guns. They were very good at using their fingers for guns and making pow pow noises and arguing if they actually shot and hit anyone. Reminded me of when I was 10 years old.

You better go back and read the directions again. The original poster's question is a valid one. The officers on 3rd watch, March 3rd will report to their CURRENT district of assignment and then check off in 002 or 023. The officers on 1st watch, March 4th will report to their CURRENT district of assigment and then check off in 002 or 023. If the 3rd watch drops off all the radios and cars in the new district and gets shuttled back, what is 1st watch going to use in their current district? Unless the station supervisor and desk crew make sure that just enough cars and radios are left behind for the 1st watch and I seriously doubt that will happen. They should close down the 16th dist. Both printers at the front desk are broken,(ticket for repair is from 17 feb) not repaired yet, they are using the fax machine to print everything at front dest. Printer in processing room is broken. 3 out of 5 computers are broken in processing room. Computer in front room by desk is broken (when you bring in tvb you can't run check or print from that computer). This department is a fucking joke. H.B.

The side employee door handles broke off and have been replaced by flexcuffs. The lock-up is closed. The printer at the front desk and in the processing room haven't worked since december (that's when the repair tickets were made. One of the holding cells has a broken lock and can't be used. The "quiet" room and a garage have been converted into locker rooms. And this building is the neweest police station in the city -just over 1 year old. We are all really fucked.

yeah this has been the joke of 023 for months now. One of the holdng cells in the processing room has been broken for over 2 months and the same 2 printers have been broken too. what a joke of a city and department. Nothing ever works and never gets fixed. PDT's only function half the time and CHRIS is down 80% of the time. We always just laugh and sit and waite and wait and wait. We are only as good as our equipment.

im not from 021 or 023 but picking up your radios for the last time in the building and walking out is pretty sad. End of an era. I worked in housing and we were in 021 alot... many many good times in that building in the 90s.. kind of a shame. Lots of history and good times. Proud to say that I was able to work in the duece and 021 when the real Prarie dogs worked there when all the buildings were up. 90-96 were some kick ass years up in those buildings... ahhh, the memories and stories... I would tell them the statute of limitations was up hahahahaha!!!

That heliport hasn't been used in 30 years at least. I think it is still on aeronautical charts but always has squad cars parked on it. It is on the east side of the lot near the garage. Unless you look for it you'll miss it.

Some of us have tragic memories OTJ that we will take to the grave. One of mine occurred on Mothers' Day night, May 13, 1990 while I was a supervisor in 025. The Zone 12 dispatcher was unable to raise two of my guys on Beat 2523. Their last assignment was a "disturbance with the grandson" at the bungalow on the southwest corner of Nordica and Palmer. I drove over. Their squad was parked in the alley alongside an open garage door at the rear.
It was pitch black inside. I entered with weapon drawn, using my flashlight.
Both officers were down in the southeast corner. I immediately called a 10-1. Ray KILROY had no vital signs. Greg HAUSER went into a death rattle in my arms. Scores of units, two CFD ambulances, bosses and the chaplain responded to a huge Plan V. The shooter had fled and the hunt for a cop-killer was on.
Several hours later, two officers from Gang Crimes found and apprehended one Roman CHAVEZ, IR#790204, hiding beneath a porch several blocks away, the murder weapon nearby. The A/O was none other than H.B. and his partner, F.O.
Double cop-killer Chavez, IDOC#B14370, is currently serving life in Dixon. Burn in Hell, muthafucka!
The point of my post, "Far South Side(r)": The question for you is as a street copper, could you even make a patch on H.B.'s fine ass? He paid his dues a long, long time ago as an outstanding street cop. H.B. is "BLUE to the BONE". He could retire tomorrow but he now proudly "protects the Homeland".
Generally, I do have more respect for a P.O. that has paid his street dues in "fast" districts. I don't take kindly to "anonymous" posters who criticize "Chicago's Finest". True, but if you read between the lines, are they admitting there are not enough people to staff the cars? If the watches were fully-staffed, the task could be 98% accomplished with the on/off cycle of the third watch and a couple of house-mouses "volunteering" to change their watch for one tour of duty to handle the other 2% of the task. Instead, it will take two entire watches to get the cars and radios over to the other district station. Did they spill the beans and tell on themsleves?

One offender is female 2nd watch PO,and the other offender is the after hours girlfriend of a tac sgt. That was parking when it had plenty of room, its only going to get worse, much worse!!

Contract violation, a little bird told me, officers in 21 got to bid out to 2,1 or 9 but officers in 19 did not get to bid they are all going to 023. Word is, the department does not want to call it a transfer so they are calling it a merge to get around contract rules. Those crafty devils are just too smart for themselves.
The contract violation is only allowing one district to bid on openings in 4 districts. Maybe some guy in 19 would rather go to 1, I guess that doesn't matter to an old salty dog like you.
To all ofyou getting displaced I really feel bad for you, however at least you are going to a district in the same general vicinity, I got dumped from SOS and they sent us packing all over the city, I went back when they formed up MSF and now I have to travel to the far southside from out near O'Hare, so I don't know the reasons or thinking behind this job. I hope you all get used to new digs.

The officers on 1st watch, March 4th will report to their CURRENT district of assigment and then check off in 002 or 023. If the 3rd watch drops off all the radios and cars in the new district and gets shuttled back, what is 1st watch going to use in their current district? I actually have 3 lockers in 021. When I was in my delta city wide attack force unit (before I joined tact and became an american badass), I used to wait for all the old dog asses to retire and move in on the lockers.
No need to worry about me though. I have strategically obtained lockers in every district....suckers. If any of you lazy inside dogasses cut my lock you will know its my locker when you find: 31 bottles of hairgel, ninja stars, anal lube, 10 pairs of blue jeans and a Backstreet Boys cd.
Do not throw out any of my possessions. I bought those with my allowance that my mom(who I still reside with) gave me.
In the meantime I'm gonna hang out with my wang out at TGI fridays and drink shots of apple puckers!

023, Parking will be a fiasco! The HIT and RUNS that happened are true. Ask anyone when you get there. Very sad to know another co-worker would do that to your personal property. If you are heading to afternoons, the female PO that takes her personal/lunch around 1800-1830 everyday in the station, around the same time a certain tac sgt starts, will be the offender. They would be the ones playing cat and mouse on the second floor, till they run into each other,by accident of course. Sometimes you go to the show, sometimes the show comes to you !!!!! Enjoy.

Since apparently the entire 1st watch of 019 isn't smart enough to figure it out, they will probably stand there behind the station staring off into space forever.

Well they check off at their new stations how are they going to get back to their old stations to get their personnel cars. Is the department going to shuttle them or are they on their own.

This is part of the department's new physical fitness program Officers are encouraged to walk back to get their cars.
The parking lots will remain open after the stations are closed as overflow parking for the stations these officers have been reassigned to. The walk from the overflow facility will be good for you. The city is doing this because the city cares about you.
To the NEW TOWN HALL 019 DISTRICT officers, there are some good guys from both districts, and some idiots. The decent PO will always find his path with other decent POs. You idiots are on your own ! Welcome to the circus.

United airlines has made available a 747 jumbo jet for training and American airlines will flip the bill for our new smoke house and range which will only take about a month to build.

Contract violation, a little bird told me, officers in 21 got to bid out to 2,1 or 9 but officers in 19 did not get to bid they are all going to 023. Word is, the department does not want to call it a transfer so they are calling it a merge to get around contract rules. Those crafty devils are just too smart for themselves.
The contract violation is only allowing one district to bid on openings in 4 districts. Maybe some guy in 19 would rather go to 1, I guess that doesn't matter to an old salty dog like you.
You have to look at it objectively, the only reason people from 021 got to bid into 009and 001 is because those two districts took over parts of 021. Thats all. They are merely compensating for the ground that it will cover.
Sounds like parking will be an issue in 023. LOL

The only problem was he has too much pride in himself and the work he did, and does, for some kid to say "I worked with H.B. in 016 and he was a dog." We need better Computers everywhere ALL slow and AIRA sux and needs Spellcheck and the printers conk out and the cameras blow and the stapler is empty and the Tahoes need cup holders and the toilet paper is out and I can't find any inventory bags and the guy at the desk ate the last cookie and the doofus in the radio room gave me another car with a flat and my PDT wont log on and the phone in station is fucked up and my battery chirps BUT.......
I love this shit somewhow even though I would have done the arrest faster the old way and been in and out of the station in no time! TECHNOLOGY and somoeones glorious idea that got them promoted!

im not from 021 or 023 but picking up your radios for the last time in the building and walking out is pretty sad. End of an era. I worked in housing and we were in 021 alot... many many good times in that building in the 90s.. kind of a shame. Lots of history and good times. Proud to say that I was able to work in the duece and 021 when the real Prarie dogs worked there when all the buildings were up. 90-96 were some kick ass years up in those buildings... ahhh, the memories and stories... I would tell them the statute of limitations was up hahahahaha!!!
A wee bit bumpy yes but what transition doesn't have a few bumps in the road.
Take a deep breath and remain positive. It will help guide you through the chaos and focus better.

D-unit totally fucked up. I don't know what they're planning, but cases are going to be tracked from one end to the other. Just like 007, 011, OCD and Fugitives are numbers units now, so will be the D-Unit. Compstat is coming to the D-unit, and it's coming soon. 8 weeks. Gear up for bosses being a whole lot crankier. Unbelievable.
