No Bail for Shooter
A 21-year-old South Side man charged with shooting a Chicago police officer in the South Shore neighborhood on Sunday was ordered held without bail today.
Cortez Ross, of the 4300 block of South Champlain Avenue, faces attempted first degree murder and aggravated battery charges.
Ross was ordered held without bail in a court hearing midday today before Cook County Criminal Court Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil.
Thanks Judge Ciesel.
Has anyone heard how the officer is doing? The media keeps saying "through and through wound" in his hand, but the hand is a mess of small bones pretty close together. It's nothing like a flesh wound through a meaty leg or arm. "Through and through" is going to leave a pretty big mark.

No fear of the police in Chicago. Back in the day this asshole would be running for his life. Oh well.
It's the nerves that you need to worry about. Damage to nerves can cause all kinds of problems.
I was shot in the hand a few years ago. It kept me off work for a year due to all the surgeries I had to have. I didn't know or even think about how fragile the hand is. I had so many fragments in my hand that they decided to leave them there because going in and poking around would or could do more damage than removing them. I asked the surgeon why everything was taking so long as opposed to say cardiac surgery where you are up and about after a few days. He told me that heart surgery was nothing next to hand surgery because of all the tendons, ligaments and bones which are all very small and can be damaged further if he makes a mistake or something goes wrong.
Good luck to the P.O that was shot.
He is doing well. The officer went to a well known and prominent hand surgeon yesterday and was told surgery was not needed. The wound will heal from the inside out, going to therapy for daily treatments and anti-bacterial soakings. He will continue to follow up with the surgeon to see if his treatment is going well or if they need to change course on that.
Ran into him at A/2, right before they charged that savage with three counts of attempt murder of the police. He was in good spirits, his left hand was wrapped up tight. I could see that he was tired, hopefully he'll get a few months off to spend with his family.
lots of therapy after repair!!hopefully not his dominant hand
Looked good and was in high spirits when he left NWMH yesterday. He even was laughing that this will get him thru G8 no questions asked. We wished him luck, and walked him out to his sisters car.
Stay tuff out there guys, we support you.
I saw 2 pix of his hand, it's not pretty. Fuck the media once again for downplaying a coppers injuries. And God bless this Hero for saving his partners life.
I'm not a cop but I have a brother in law who is a top hand surgeon (the kind who sews fingers back on after industrial accidents etc). If this guy wants another medical reference have him look me up (using my name above).
Hand is nothing to play with...Prayers are with you Officer.
