Five Signs

5 signs you might be in the wrong job.

  1. You’re a Loner at Work
  2. You’re Ashamed of Your Job
  3. Your Workload Overwhelms You
  4. You’re Stagnating at Work
  5. There’s No Growth and Development in Your Job
Numbers 5, 4 and 3 pretty much sum up the entire CPD at a glance.

Number 2 is more shame along the lines of what the brass, politicians and "meri-clout-orious" have allowed the job to descend to.

Number 1 isn't a problem - we have lots of friends at work and hobbies away from work, but that's a conscious effort on our parts.

Anyone still bringing in numbers is an idiot. Get it through your head, they won't promote you. There are no detective or sgt classes in the works. All you do is make the boss look good. They are not saving a spot for you when the time comes.

Make the most of what you have.

8. You keep your arms under your T-shirt, moving them around constantly with your elbows sticking out so it looks like there are two badgers trapped under there.

You can shout while you do this, too.

WOW, this is exactly how I feel... I don't care for the co-works especially where I was dumped to, and since nobody knows what they are doing anyway, I prefer to handle my paper work myself.

Do I tell anyone I'm the police...HELL NO! Everyone hates the police because "we are lazy do nothings", can you blame them? My uniform stays at work and no more FOP/ St. Jude stickers on my car.

Workload? Damn, I wish I can say my work is challenging. Same shit day after day after day. Even an imbecile can fill out boxes.

And lastly, no growth; sgt/ det test ( because we we have meritorious sgt's/ LT's in the upcoming months??? ) is so fuckin' discouraging. It's over a decade on this job and I'm still at where I started out at? What's the point of educating yourself to utilize your education? It looks like all that schooling will pay elsewhere!

Bosses with no balls.

Bosses who mess with you because they feel they can.

Idots you work with.

Crap equipment.

States Atorney. VOMIT.

Backstabbing.

Romper Room atmosphere.

Poor me run to the boss because Billy called me a bad name.

Egos.

Moronic sgt's who are scared of their own shadow.

Corporate atmosphere.

well I'm educated.

Did I mention I'm educated.

This department has never and will never set a Person up to be successful on this job.

I can't wait for my 20. Won't be long now. I will suppliment my pension and work at walmart if I have to. I am not salty. I'm simply ashamed!

So sad.

My heart goes out to you proactive guys that must suffer the fools, political hacks and clout babies that "manage" the job. "The best and the brightest" is meaningless because of #5. Fortunately, I never had any problems with the first four signs.

Hunting down bad guys (Part I felons) was the most fun I could have with my clothes on. I remain very PROUD of my calling. If I was a billionaire, I'd still work gratis as a street cop/detective just for fun. The eagle does not hunt flies. I never locked up "on view" ghetto pissers, public drinkers, hos, et cetera unless there were aggravating circumstances. However, I would always use the THREAT of arrest to develop information on "the big fish". I probably wrote only one book of parkers in my entire career. Ultimately, small quantities of weed went down the sewer and known law-abiding citizens usually got a pass on a gun for self-protection. I loved the job but she's a ho.

With the demoralizing cancer of patronage/CLOUT, "political correctness" and ubiquitous cameras, retirement is a sheer joy. Get out if you can. The job is DOA.

a lot of talent wasting away in a blue shirt unable to get promoted--- it was always comical to see a punk kid with less than 10 years on the job telling a guy with a star and a bar on his left sleeve what to do--- just because you are the alderman's neighbor or the bosses daughter doesn't make you smarter than everyone else....

Considering most of the people I work with, and all of the people I work for aren't qualified to work a drive thru im not surprised that most haven't. You wont get rich doing this job but we are paid fairly well. There isn't one person that didn't know going in how messed up this city or department was. So suck it up and do your job.

I am leaving this bullshit department in 6 years. It wont come soon enough.

"Anyone still bringing in numbers is an idiot. Get it through your head, they won't promote you. There are no detective or sgt classes in the works. All you do is make the boss look good. They are not saving a spot for you when the time comes..."

You, my friend, are the person that I can't stand on this job! If you want to be a dog ass, that's your perogative. But don't try justifying your dog ass attitude! where is your dignity?

You have a job to do as a Police Officer. It's that simple! I don't give a shit how fucked up this job has become. I can't stand all the bullshit either, but I took this job and am still getting paid. It doesn't sit right with me to just sit there and do the least possible just because of what's happened to our Department. I handle my jobs accordingly and lock shitheads up when necessary not because I'm trying to make the boss look good or even make myself look good. I do it because I have a job to do! I have my pride and dignity.

When someone is in trouble, they call us. Who do we call? We rely on each other. But more and more dog asses like you are nowhere to be found. You're in the station checking FB, or down on a job that should've been cleared over an hour ago, or whatever dog asses like you do!

We don't have the numbers we once had. That's a given. The numbers that are left simply need to step up and just do what's expected of them. I'm not saying you have to be a hard charger. I'm just saying, "DO YOUR FUCKING JOB!"

How do you feel when one of us gets hurt? Sorry? Are you really sorry? Cause someone like you could've been around to assist had you just been patrolling the streets like your getting paid to do. How are you going to feel if one of us meets our end? Help us. Don't hurt us. We need to help each other brother. Your attitude needs adjustment. It's not helping anybody.

As far as getting promoted, if you're not doing anything, why should you get promoted? So that you could be a dog ass Sgt? C'mon!

After 20 and a day a po continues to put in 9% of salary per year to get back 3% more in a pension check per year. After the first 12 mos you put in about 7200 dollars to get back 130 dollars per month. About the cost of a good steak dinner with drinks and the wife. An extra 1350 dollars of pension in the first year. That is the worst investment math I have ever seen. All you are doing is funding other peoples checks. Im gone in Jan.. 20 and out. Crunched the numbers and without all the deductions that are taken out on gross my net per mo is going to remain the same. Got 350 g in deferred comp to cover anything else. God willing I hope to live to 103 and get as much out of the pension that I can. Play devils advocate , and try to talk me out of it.

Nobody cares if your the police off duty. shut up and tell them your an electrician. pay the 5 dollar cover charge at the door and dont be a hard ass because someone accidentally bumped into you at 3am in an overcrowded bar. when he says sorry dont say watch it assh)le im a cop.. say, hey, not problem buddy. nothing but losers on this job these days.

The guys hired recently in my trade are such backstabbing weasals that I don't give a rip if Rahm lays them off. Most of them are lackeys of a newer supervisor and jumped more senior workers for shift picks and assignments.

It was poetic justice when they were laid off previously......and the bastard supervisor was at the mercy of the older guys he tried to run off the job.

The supervisor was this/close to being busted down and having to leave himself. Unfortunately the union saved him. Too bad.

If Rahm got rid of him.....he'd have my support for life!

Eventually these young bucks will get older themselves, and the cycle will repeat itself.

I cannot believe that a holiday cost the city 4 million. I would like to see the actual numbers because this sounds like some more information to scare citizens. Heck the city has about half the workforce it used to have. They layer off and fired everyone else. Most civilians are off on the holidays and CPD and CFD have no choice but to work. That figure seems to be bs.

There’s No Growth and Development in Your Job
****************
Wow, this must be the only job in the world where the economy has diminished advancement opportunities for it's help. If you must advance and you can't here, go elsewhere. This isn't public aid, it's not a lifelong endeavor. Remember how excited you were when you got the job and how lucky you felt when you did? Try working in the private sector, downsizing, layoffs, pay cuts and benefit reductions. Getting fired for not performing to expectations. How about this one, you've had this particular job for quite some time and now you make too much for this position, so you get fired because you can't advance. The reason for it is because that job is not worth what you get paid to do it for! We need to stop acting like pampered, milk fed veal and appreciate what we've got because it's haircut time. If the economy doesn't pick up and it won't with Barry in the drivers seat, the tax base will continue to shrink and we are not immune to the economic realities of our economy.

9: 05 pm. Your text book econ 101 logic is quite telling. If what you write is true, mayor's, alderman, gold braid bosses, commissioners, bank, wall street CEO's, should be the first to go, in both the public as well as in the private sector, in a bad economy. They have costs the american taxpayers billions, because of mismanagement, lack of common sense, and just plain incompetence. It should be automatic recall when public works have overruns of over 300 million, in tax dollars, dollars, or automatic firing and retribution, when you cause one of the worst financial crisis's in banking, mortgages, than parlay said crisis into personal profits, by placing insurances on the eventual failing of a system you knew was going to fail. When these assholes get was coming to them, then i will accept the bullshit thats happening to the rank and file of the CPD and the working middleclass. In the mean time, if po's want to rant and rave, air out their feelings, post how they feel under appreciated, by both the administration and the citizendry they serve, let them. Scc, is the forum for which po's feel safe to express themselves and though, most often anonymously, allowed to get the silent majority in the department to be heard, without the repercussions of the "gestapo" tactics of certain political hacks. So please spare them the your "lucky you have a job" bullshit. The assholes that ran the economy to the dirt are quite lucky and blessed, these men and women, still find pride and love for their chosen vocation, have love and respect for the citizendry, put on the uniform, and despite some of the post, still go out and fight the forces of evil. God Bless CPD and SCC. Thank you for serving and protecting and know you are appreciated

Softball suckass? Seriously? You're a proud dog ass too! You're fucking pathetic.

Nowhere did I ever say I kiss ass. In fact, I don't like kiss asses either. If a boss doesn't recognize me based on my own merits, that's his/her problem. A good boss recognizes who's a good worker and who is not. I never asked a boss to keep me anywhere. I moved around on pure luck and motivation. I have since been thrown back to the watch and should be bitter as hell about it, but I still love this job. It's dog asses like you who continue to demoralize a good copper with your attitude and views.

As far as IOD with 30 pending, that's what guys like you talk about just to further your non-working ass! How about you quit and find a new line of work cause you're worthless on this job. You're hurting us as a Force brotha. Get that through your fucking head!

If you're doing your job right, there's no reason to be facing suspension. I guess you just don't know how to do your job so you continue to make up excuses to make yourself look justified in your dog ass ways. Get real and stop talking shit about the men and women who take this job serious and continue to do what's expected of them.

It's a job. Get it done and get it done right! Youre a sad case that I continue to see growing on this job. You're a fucking cancer. Stop with your bullshit and get off your ass!

How are you different from the welfare recipients who continue to suck from the governments teet? They do nothing, just like you, and get a check. You're just like "dude". And you're proud to be like them? WTF?
