Protestors Reveal Plans
- The U.S. Secret Service on Tuesday told Chicago anti-war demonstrators they will have to stay blocks from next month's NATO summit for security reasons, which protest leaders said violates their right to be within sight and sound of the delegates.
"We'll be blocks away" said Andy Thayer of the Coalition Against NATO/G-8 War & Poverty Agenda, after meeting with the Secret Service, which is in charge of security for the two-day summit.
Portions of Lake Shore Drive and Interstate 55 will be closed to traffic during the May 20-21 NATO summit to accommodate a security perimeter imposed by the U.S. Secret Service to protect world leaders meeting at McCormick Place, protesters were told Tuesday.
Andy Thayer, a spokesman for the Coalition Against NATO-G-8, predicted that “tens of thousands” of people would be inconvenienced — from Friday through Monday of summit weekend — because of the restrictions described to protesters by Secret Service officials during a meeting at the Dirksen Federal Building.
According to Thayer, the restricted area will be bounded by 21st Street, 25th Street and Indiana and Lake Michigan. And Thayer claimed the northern boundary may be moved to Roosevelt Road because of NATO-related events at the museum campus.

He's right! Move it somewhere else! Alcatraz would be a nice location; secluded, peaceful, not in the center of a major city.
This doesn't even mention the thousands of police officers, firefighters and paramedics that will be inconvenienced; canceled days off, time off restrictions, furlough prohibitions...

Saw Andy tonight on chicago tonight wearing a bright red shirt while all the other panel members wre in greyish suits. I, for one, took the symbolism directly to mean his shirt was 'communist' red! Many many years ago I once heard a voice on a special investigation car-to-car channel describe a target as 'RCP' meaning 'Regular Communist Party.' Not much has changed!

Look the other way unless you arer protecting yourslef or another copper. Ot:My partner talked to a Lady whose Father was CPD.Her poor dad passed away this past February and her Mom,his widow, still has not collected a widow's pension check! Scc, just got word from the grapevine that 1 May there is a large immagration march planned for downtown. Don't know if its ligit with permits. Rumer has it, will be similar insize to O7 (I believe) when all of pilson and their brothers marched downtown.
I don't think those protestors will be following the SS Guidelines!

Rep. Gutierrez to attend immigrant march Sunday

"Illinois U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Chicago) will be the featured speaker at this year's May Day march for immigrant rights that begins Sunday, April 29 at noon at the offices of Voces de la Frontera, 1027 S. 5th St., and proceeds through downtown to Veterans Park.
"This year the march is being held as the U. S. Supreme Court considers the constitutionality of Arizona's controversial SB 1070, a law that the Justice Department has challenged, said Christine Neumann-Ortiz, executive director of Voces.
"This year the national day of action will include marches and prayer vigils next week across the country to protest the Arizona law that encourages racial profiling and is an attack on civil rights," said Neumann-Ortiz."
