Add 2 Dead and 10 Wounded

The hits just keep on coming - long into Sunday night and even this morning:
  • Two people was killed and 10 others wounded, at least two critically, in five separate shootings on the South Side, police said this morning.

Five of the victims were wounded at a party near 50th Place and Halsted Street in the Back of the Yard neighborhood at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, police said, citing early reports.

As a side note, anyone notice that phrase?

  • "...citing early reports."

It appeared in another form in yesterday's Tribune:

  • Police officials on Sunday were still compiling a list of confirmed shootings and victims....

If you've been on the scene of a shooting recently, and judging by the numbers a lot of us have been, you know that CPIC is banging for paper cars to call them ASAP all the time. They call before the victims even get to the hospital on a few shootings. The need the numbers so they can feed them into the giant CompStat Computer and then predict where the retaliation will occur.

But our inner conspiracy theorist notices that they're still keeping the press in the dark as long as possible and twisting the statistics so every media outlet has a different set of numbers.

I wish medical science wasn't as advanced as it is.

I can't wait until we hit 50+ kilt.

That'd be justice.

And how many of these little jagoffs would be heading 6 feet under if we had concealed carry?

What we need are some Dirty Harry types out there amongst the masses.

Chicago is becoming Detroit, the downtown area at night is dangerous, even for the police!

What can a handful of coppers do when there are hundreds of gangbangers running wild, wilding, robbing, intimidating?

We desperately need to hire more police!

Not a good night for the highly touted violence interrupters either. Is it true these ex-felons are making $1,000 a month?

Note how the CPD does not count people shot during a "robbery".

CPIC are just a bunch of insiders who will do anything to please the bosses and keep their spot. They can wait until the real police finish processing the scene.

How much more can the Evil Racoon sweep under that city "rug" before it gets too big? Plenty. Where has this asshole mayor been all weekend with the carnage going on? He doesn't want to get anywhere near this mess.

------------------------------

Oh you mean like for example..."five people get shot at a party and their ages and sex are not available" what's up with that? It's one of the first thing fire wants to know before they roll on a call.

And then the term "hurt" being used instead of "wounded" or "shot".

Even WGN radio was calling that one out this afternoon. Yet WGN kept parroting the phrase in their newscasts afterwords. "...more than 40 people hurt.."

40 people were "hurt" like their feelings were hurt because someone said something that they did not like. The word just doesn't fit the seriousness of the issue and these are suppose to be journalist with editors that know the 'feelings that are conjured up' by the choice of words that they use -- so don't believe for a minute that they know not what they write.

The use of the word hurt when a person is shot just doesn't portray the depravity of the action.

When you see word games such as this and then someone tells you that crime is down 10% your internal bullshit alarm should be sounding loud and clear.

Like what happened, crime is down 10%? Oh you mean we wrote less park-ers because our people were busy stretching the red crime scene tape? Is that why crime is down? Crime is down because our people are tied up on those lengthy time consuming death and gun shot victim calls to even respond to the other crimes?

SCC, we(police officers) all know the department is spinning the stats. The question is how do we expose it. I live in 016. A few months ago there was an instance where the public schools had the day off. It was a Fri and mom and dad were at work, one daughter was away at college and the other daughter was home alone for some school institute day. The house had the cheap window alarms and one goes off. Kid at home is a little scared but thinks maybe her sister came home and is either screwing around or forgot her keys. She calls sister....sister is @ school and says call mom. She calls mom and mom calls police. Police show up and find finger prints on window, foot prints in dirt/mud by window and muddy shoe prints on a/c unit by window where alarm goes off. Car is assigned to burg alarm call. After investigation guess what final disposition and report is given.....
FUCKING CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY.
Now I'm not a Dic. or Sgt., just a lowly P.O. but isn't something wrong here? Please correct me if I'm wrong because I really am confused. If this is the correct disposition correct me....shouldn't this have been an attempt burglary? Could it be that 016 is hiding thefts/ robberies/ burglaries because that is the biggest problem? I know it's not homicides but I'm sure this is happening to all the numbers. Can anyone say
COMPSCAM?

Unless you find a hook hanging off the windowsill, it's no big deal.

If only there were some Mobile type of unit that could Strike these criminals in Force.

We could even give them some extra training as incentive to work the most violent parts of the city.

CPIC needs the info because they are the ones that send the shootings out to sup and all the boss's, tact lts, gang sgts, etc blackberries. If a boss hears about the shooting on the news before cpic tells them about it they let Herr Schmit or obershieskopf carlaris know about it. So just like any other PO they prefer to avoid dealing with those two. Midnights gets all the shootings and the only time they see those two is when they want to shit on someone.

Should have been an Attempt Burglary and especially if prints were found. An ET should have been notified. But the way these comstat people are screwing with the numbers. They would rather have a CDTP then an attempt. Nothing else is going to be done. Detectives CMO will suspend the case and a detective will never be assigned. This one particular crime could lead to an arrest and maybe put an end to a burglary pattern in that particular area, I don't know maybe the PO did make it an Attempt and the people in review change it to a CDTP. Hopefully the PO notified an ET, All it takes 2 min to make a notification and if they decide that they don't want to come out then it's on them. You see compstat is not about solving crime, it's about making people believe that crime is lower.
