- A man walking home from work was attacked and beaten by a large group of people on the city's Gold Coast late Sunday, police said.
The 36-year-old man suffered only a cut to the head during the 10 p.m. attack in the 800 block of North Dewitt Place, police said, citing early reports.
It was unclear whether his many attackers also robbed him.
The man was taken to nearby Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was expected to be released sometime this morning.
Police had no other details.

I am a private citizen with the greatest respect for CPD. I don't know how you do it, but it is obvious you are completely understaffed and outflanked by the urban terrorists who have been unleashed by horrible public policy that has created generations of dependents who never work or strive to better themselves and seem to have nothing but free time to commit mayhem.
I live in Chicago because of family needs. It is certainly not by choice. As a senior white woman I have already been caught up in one wilding the day after Christmas by the Water Tower. Now I cower in fear, never out after dark and mighty careful about any daylight hour activities.
I moved here from a state that has concealed carry and I have been trained and licensed and would certainly need my revolver now more than ever but have not brought it to Chicago because I do not want to commit a felony. What should I do? This is no way to live but I have no choices or do I?
I witnessed a crime down in the Loop at 1pm last Friday and walked up Dearborn and then State for several blocks and never saw a single police officer anywhere in about an eight block walk before I gave up and got on the bus. I am not blaming the police. This is a public policy issue about police staffing. What can the public do about this? How do we make our voices heard? Why can't the police response to these urban terrorists be the strategic response that was used during NATO to keep the peace?
I see this as a crisis situation of major proportions. Once the tourists are afraid to come and the convention business dries up and people refuse transfers here from their companies a beautiful world class city will be gone and people will wonder how it could have happened. Take a look at Detroit if you want a crystal ball view of a future that is not too far off.
These are large groups of African-American Youths who target non African-Americans,nothing more...nothing less. When people get beaten for no reason at all,it IS racially motivated. When society can come to grips with that,then we can work on a solution.
More Hate Crimes that are not reported or charged as such. White people are being targeted in the Loop for beatings and robberies and there is absolutely no mention of it (racial attacks)in the media, and no charges from the CCSA. Pathetic. I watched the news (NBC) last night and they are telling the story and showing video of tourists and shoppers. They are afraid to show video of these animals walking around in packs of 50 to 100. And they are pissing in their pants to report this for what it is: HATE CRIMES.

People should be able to be who they are because of freedom of expression, not fear. Certainly, the people who committ these crimes don't care to change or are unwilling and unable to change who they are.

Earlier today, Channel 7-ABC News said he was beaten about the face and the head. They then showed the 36 year-old victim being assisted to the ambulance by two paramedics, one on each arm. He was wearing a full ghetto gauze turbin complete with the gauze chin strap and he had wet-noodle legs. He looked like they kicked his ass and left him in a heap.
WBBM Newsradio reported on this earlier today. Streeterville residents saw the wilding as it happened. No police is what they said. No fooling! There aren't any more police officers. There are so few patrol officers available that the ones who are around can't get days off.

I saw the video and it was sickening. This man is part of the Greatest Generation that is still with us. He survives being attacked in the South Pacific by the Japanese only to be mugged in his twilight years by thugs. I applaud this man for his service to our country during WW2. The ONLY way things MIGHT change is if these kinds of videos spread through the public. We need a public that is demanding far greater security action.

My wife and I both do, we still haven't shot an officer writing us a ticket or a criminal beating one of us, but given the face eater, and flash mobs across the country, i'm alot happier having mine.
