A whole bunch of comments about Michigan and Chicago going up for grabs last night and at least two saying gunfire at Navy Pier. Rumors? Trolls? Or just more of the unreported mayhem going on downtown on a near weekly basis?

A bunch of kids came from the South Side to celebrate Independence Day in their own way, I guess.
Nothing in the news but I am hearing from some of my colleagues who were on scene that this is legit. Also some stories about some major large scale fights, before and after all over downtown.
Couple of years ago, police were involved in high number of shootings. People saying police are trigger happy. And junior never had a gun and knew better. Now with less police and smarter shooters there are less police shootings but murders sky high. And i guess junior does have a gun.

Well said! I'm a Sgt with 26 yrs on and the bashing each other on here gets old. When the shit starts going south, I don't care who shows up to help-JUST SHOW UP! Yes, we are undermanned, but relief is not coming any time soon. This department has bottomed out as far as I'm concerned, but we still have to look out for each other. Working the watch I can understand the Officers being pissed about denying time due, lack of promotions, politics, incompetent bosses, etc., but we have to stick together. If you choose to come in with zeros, I honestly don't care and don't really blame you. What does matter to me is helping each other out there on the street and backing each other whether it's a hot call or not. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than showing up on a foot chase/car chase or in progress calls and seeing 6-8 cars showing up. If we stick together and help each other out, we can weather ANY storm.

From 2130 hrs (after fireworks) until almost midnight, animals were running wild on Mich Ave.... Several of them even beat a male savagely on the mag mile.

Was in the crowed hallway at Navy Pier last night (near build a bear) when a fight broke out, at first people were rubbernecking to see what was going on, but then three shots were fired and everyone started pushing to get out.
These were very clear-pop-pop-pops of a gun, not the random sound of firecrackers going off.
People were scared and cops were yelling for all of us to get out of the mall area and into the street. EMTs outside kept yelling for us to keep moving away and to get home.

"Chicago police arrested 11 young people after a man was beaten on the Near North Side, authorities said.
"The attack happened about 11:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of North Dearborn Street...

I was working at the Pier last night and the shots fired call was unfortunately generated by an over zealous Navy Pier Security officer who thought the sound of fireworks were shots being fired. One we discovered it was fireworks we gave an imediate disregard a few moments later. Unfortunatley 018 and citywide units were already flying into the pier. The injured person just cut her foot during the mass exit after the fireworks. I can tell you that the pier was a disaster! The food court had to be shut down during the day several times and @ 10pm closed for good. Roving mobs of young Engelwoodians causing problems throughout. Though the Pier was supposed to be open til midnight, we were pushing visitors out the door shortly after 10pm. Many visitors complimented the CPD for their professionalism and tolerance with the large crowd. We were seriously out numbered last night! Thank you to "The Billy Goat Tavern" and "Connie's Pizza" for the free food and water all day! Thank you to all the on duty officers, Sgt's, Lt's and gold stars for literally "sweating" the day out and assisisting the Pier CPD when problems broke out. Be safe everyone!

Michigan and Chicago was up for grabs last night. I would say Chicago was the main street from the lake at the east to dearborn at the west. Then you can include rush, superior, water tower, john hancock, walgreens, mcdonalds at chicago and state (red line). Cops everywhere. Cop cars, undercover cars, paddy wagons, cops on bikes, cops on horses. My family calls them the "white shirt" cops, but there were about 6 "white shirt" cops that we saw from our apt. HUNDREDS of youths running around making trouble and looking for trouble. Trib has a piece today on someone attacked on dearborn around 11pm. Streeterville is up for grabs. I really feel bad for the cops because they are totally outnumbered, but as residents, we are so glad they are here. We have lived here for 6 years and last night was the worst night we have ever seen. It was surreal watching from our window. Not much in media....Wouldnt want to scare off tourism on Michigan avenue! ugh.

After personnel arrived, they rescued the child and began searching for the boy's parents, Mirabelli said. The boy told rescuers that his parents had swum to shore, Mirabelli said.
The parents were located on shore and reunited with the boy, who was in good condtion, Mirabelli said.

I was in the navy pier building and a stampede started and everyone was running and screaming. a mob of cops swarmed in. Something definitely happened. Not sure what because it all happened so fast. I do not understand why there is no information as to what went down.
As Navy Pier was emptying out a call came over for a large fight in the pier at Ben and Jerry's. A couple minutes later, as we were still making our way in, several people started running from the north/west area outside the pier claiming their was someone shooting there. Later, after the dust settled a white family from Iowa told us there was indeed three shots fired from a small caliber gun.
As a side note, the bike team got a gun with a head on the bike path off Ohio Street beach after the fireworks. That is the third gun pinch on the lakefront between Ohio and North Ave in the last month. Good job and stay safe.

I used to think probation was a tool to do one of two things , rehabiltate or incarcerate . Try to help save and rehabilitate the ones that are salvageable and put the bad dangerous ones away. The pendulum has swung way too far in one direction. Bad, dangerous delinquents who are given probation should come to understand that violating their probation , even for minor violations will bring them into custody.I really believe filling up the juvenile detention center to capacity would start to deter some of this mayhem. I know the politicians like to look at the $ cost of locking people up, but what is the $ cost of 20-30 people being shot every weekend.
More good parking meter contract news, Chicago guaranteed them use of parking meters would increase throughout the contract. Guess what it's not gonna cause people aren't gonna feel safe in the city. Well they now get to bill the city for this too as list guaranteed parking meter revenue.
Black people have and are presently continuing to destroy this City...that's the TRUTH fuck being politicaly correct.

Parents? What parents? You must not be hip to the culture. How about Madear, or auntie or their DCFS case-worker, or their foster home, but finding the parents would be like finding Bigfoot. It's not going to happen.

Robbers Striking In Broad Daylight In Loop, River North, Old Town
July 3, 2012
"Police are searching for a robber who has been targeting victims downtown and on the Near North Side in broad daylight in recent weeks.
In each incident, the victim is standing on the sidewalk and riding a bicycle, when the robber grabs the victim’s cell phone and rides off in a car being driven by an accomplice. In one incident, three robbers came up to a victim, grabbed him around the neck and told him they had a gun, as they took his wallet.
The lead robber is described as an African-American man between the ages of 18 and 30, standing 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighing 130 to 160 pounds.
The getaway car driven by the accomplice is described as a silver or gray Nissan – possibly an Altima – with Illinois or Texas plates.
Police advise that neighbors be aware of the robberies and not walk alone if they can help it."

Lets do a statistical study on black crime. Who commits most of the crime in Chicago. Who fills the courts everyday. Who fills our county jail? Who is going downtown in large mobs, groups, whatever you want to call them and targeting white people. Who is doing all the shootings and murders in Chicago. Chicago's crime is escalating at an alarming rate. Everyday the news paints a grisly picture of a City sounding more like a war zone than a democracy. The police officers are running from call-to-call, short-handed and under-protected. Just look at the farce that was Nato and how the crime rate actually was reduced when the department had enough officers. Rahm rolls deep with at least four body guards, while the citizens of Chicago are cloaked with the deception of a safe neighborhood. Hey Rahm, can we borrow a few of your security guards? Not even the City's army of PR execs can put a lid on this hot topic with both the New York Times and USA Today showcasing to the nation that Chicago is a dangerous place.
This week, I was one of the 'lucky ones' and only dealt with two major threats to my safety. My first story begins with my trip back from the 'burbs. I drove my Zip Car back to the City around 5 am to beat traffic, a time when the Gold Coast was abuzz with sunlight and people starting their day. I parked the Zip Car in front of my apartment building to drop off some items; locked it; and left the windows open only about 4 inches. My purse was out of plain view on the floor. In the 30 seconds that my back was turned to the car, some perp decided he was entitled to my purse. I turn around to see a man contorting his arm to try to reach through the 4 inches of space and steal my purse. Out of instinct, I started yelling at him. Probably not the smartest decision, but it did feel really good to give him a piece of my mind.
What would he have gotten if he was successful? Jar of peanut butter, 1/2 eaten Mentos, candy wrappers, and $1.15.
My second brush with crime happened last night. I was walking back from a BBQ with 6 of my friends--guys and girls--down Dearborn at about 10:45 pm. We figured that despite the heat, it would be a nice walk. Besides, the 'posh' River North/ Goldcoast is a safe. Wrong again. As we were walking we heard a throng of loud youths creating a scene. There were about 50 of them. Given the recent mob attacks, we decided to cross the street. When we crossed the street, we were confronted by another group of about 50 loud, rambunctuous youths. The first group j-walked across Dearborn and converged with the other group where they began to fight. After seeing the beginning of a 100-person brawl, my body's flight response kicked into second gear and I booked it. When we had narrowly averted being balls deep in this maley, two separate groups of people filled in the missing pieces. The fight originated on the Red Line. The tensions escalated once they were on the Street. One of the people told this couple that people were going to get shot. Then I read the article this morning about a man getting beat up on the 700th block of North Dearborn about 30 minutes after my incident.
To be frank, I was terrified. And my feelings were shared by other frightened residents who lost shoes running from the scene. These groups both came abrupt and forceful. What the hell are you supposed to do in this situation? How the f^&* are a few cops supposed to gain control over a 100 person fight? They can't. The numbers and weaponry are not on their sides. I am surprised more cops aren't giving McCarthy back their badge and telling them to shove the under-funded pension up his ass. This experience taught me two things: 1. I was lucky and 2. You are not safe anywhere or at anytime in Chicago. With these perpetrators becoming more brazen and ballsy, crime now transcends time and place. Scary, huh?
If you are a tourist thinking of coming to Chicago, you might want to look into Detroit or East Compton, I hear they are much safer.
Conflicting stories if shots were fired or not? I will tell you it's coming. The BEAST needs feeding and he will feed himself by slaying a tourist before long. The mayor and superintendent know it and are crossing their fingers that it is prolonged. Guess what, it will happen soon. Isn't that why they announced that they will hire up to 500 police officers? Doesn't mean that it will happen anytime soon but it will insulate themselves when the BEAST kills a WHITE tourist. Isn't that so Rahm?

My daughter, who lives in Chicago, was downtown on the night of July 4th. She called me and told me about scary incidents of being taunted and threatened by a large group of black ghetto kids - about 30-40 of them. She said she was following behind a group of around 10 - 12 black adults who intervened on her behalf. Those adults also told those punk ghetto animals that they are an absolute disgrace to others of their race and they would support any police officer who had to use force on them. My daughter said the kids then started taunting these adult blacks and one kid even called them something like, "burnt or brown crackers."
This absolutely sickens me. Why aren't these stories being reported?
I tell you I am glad no longer live in the Chicago, or the Midwest and only wish that my daughter would get out of there, too.

Chicago and Michigan Ave did go up with honor roll students. Officers on scene tried to do what they could to handle the situation. At one point an ahole tried to punch a mounted unit police horse. I was a sgt on scene and hats off to the officers trying to keep the honor rolls students at bay.

All I can say is it is nice to see CCG doing some police work in 018. Thank God they are out there watching out for the residents. It is nice to know that they are out and about. We saw this at NATO and we see this on an everyday basis. The men and women of CCG are great! It does not matter if they are in 018 or 001, they do a great job when they are assigned to an area. I never ran for my life before, I don't know how you do your job!" she's not from Chicago originally and just recently moved here, so she didn't know not to work, and I thought she was off. Obviously no one got hit, but I have no doubt that there were shots fired at the pier judging by the great and disbelief in her voice.

Yeah that's the car that started the chase in 008 two days ago. 2 offenders were caught.

I do not go to downtown Chicago or the Gold Coast for anything. I have stopped a few years ago. I retired and moved to the burbs. Traffic sucks in the city, parking rates are way too high, the street loaded with potholes ( one cost me $800 in damage and it took the city 3 years to send me a check for %300), and now with these roving black gangs, the decision is sealed to avoid this area at all costs. I might as well go for dinner at 1600 south Kedzie and get the same experience.

When citizens witness criminal activity, they need to describe the offender to the police. Then, they need to identify a suspect if the police find him. Then, they need to go to court and testify against the criminal.
If all of this is too much for the citizens of Chicago, there is one thing they can do that doesn't require any work on their part. They can always just live with it.

Simple solution. Hide your valuables in your underwear or some other secure place.
Carry a wallet in an obvious place and throw in something poisonous, or will make them ill. Itching powder maybe? A couple of singles covered dog shit? The possibilities are endless!
Beat them at their own game. They're not that smart.
Funny, right now on tv they interrupted programming to tell people to drink a lot of water, etc. How about interrupting regular programming to warn people how to protect themselves against the roving bands of thugs???
