Finally, a Cool Day

Summer telling us to enjoy what's left:
  • Thursday’s 75-degree high temperature snapped a run of 80-plus days that have baked Chicago this summer.

Up until Thursday, there had been 44 consecutive days that hit 80 degrees or hotter, according to the National Weather Service.

That fell just short of a record. The longest streak of 80-degree days in Chicago was in 2010, when we had 46 straight days.

Of course, it's difficult to enjoy what comes after summer when you see this coming:

  • In the preseason opener, the Bears were defeated 31-3 by the Denver Broncos – and there were far more negatives than positives for the home team.

The Bears were sloppier and committed more penalties, drawing criticism from coach Lovie Smith.

And now the NHL is talking "lock-out."

Can the Cubs and Sox save us from an ugly Fall?

SCC, either you are clueless about baseball or you typed "Cubs" by mistake. The Cubs were finished by April 30th.

O/T (I think)
"... The culture is evolving rapidly, and the practice of psychopathy evolves with it. According to Dr. Boddy, rapid changes and growth in technology, financial instruments, and size of organizations have led to many new opportunities for the psychopathically inclined. Psychopaths are now in a corporate culture that welcomes rapid movement rather than stability, and as psychopaths create problems, they can take the money and run before the changing corporate culture catches up with them. Rahm Emanuel and Jon Corzine appear to fit this profile. In spite of losing over a billion dollars of his clients' money, the Justice Department shows no interest in prosecuting Corzine, who is now bundling campaign cash for another prominent Democratic Party member showing psychopathic traits...."

I got their fuckin' lockout!
Free stadia (yeah, I went to Catholic school, so unlike that dip shit in the Half-crican White House, I can speak both Latin & "Austrian"), despite obscene amounts of money for being able to run faster than Lil' Herbie, and the ability to jump a liquor store counter quicker than Michael Jordan, coupled with the owners' ability to extort extraordinary amounts of taxpayer money to enrich themselves at the expense of reliably gullible voters, I'm tired of subsidizing all of these assholes. And YES, that was a run-on sentence!

Depends on how you define "ugly."

RE: The Chicago Bears

Seriously? Come on, SCC... Let's talk Bears AFTER the Packers game on the 13th of September (game 2, regular season). The Colts, in game 1, should be a joke for the Bears and probably not a good measuring stick for this season, but we'll know a lot better where we're at after game 2.

In the meantime, pre-season games are a time for installing new players into new systems and not a lot of energy should be wasted on them in terms of evaluating the team from a fan's point of view. Just saying.

The Sox maybe, but didn't August come early to the north side as it usually does?

you can enjoy the cubs by watching their young core grow together and develop. the sox will not go far into the playoffs, but at least they should make the playoffs. the bulls will only help pass the time througout the year. lockout for nhl. however, our beloved bears will be what we watch and enjoy mostly.

A lockout would spare me the pain of watching another sub-par season of Cory Crawford and a poor showing of my beloved Blackhawks. Arrrrgh!
Go get Tim Thomas.

Really? I'm pretty sure that 1988 and 1995 were at least as bad, if not worse. 1988 was also before we had an air conditioner, so the kids and I sang Christmas carols a lot. Especially "Good King Wenceslas," with all that snow and ice and howling wind. It really helped ;-)

But yeah, thank God for cooler temps. I can get back in the kitchen and catch up on my bread-baking.

Oh no! The Bears lost a PRE SEASON GAME!

Like there is any correlation between pre season, regular season and post season. Dear god

I hate Bears fans. I was out to dinner last night and they had the game on 400 TV's. Listening to Bear fans moaning, groaning and cheering like it was the super bowl. I couldn't eat fast enough...
