Epic Fail on Tap

  • After dropping seven of their past eight, the Chicago White Sox need just to simply play better and not be consumed with the success of American League Central leader Detroit, which extended its lead to 1 1/2 games earlier Thursday.

“If you need to be told what to do, or you need a pep talk right now, then you might as well walk out that door and ‘see ya,’ " Sox designated hitter Adam Dunn said before the Sox opened a four-game series against Tampa Bay.
In other sporting news, the entire NHL preseason has been canceled.

I think Dunn has the most games played by an active player who has not been in a playoff.

As an Sox fan, I'm pleased and surprised they've done as well as they have. Here's a prediction which is hard to type; in 2 years the Cubs will be contenders. That's based on the number of organizational changes made this year.

This has got to go down as one of the biggest CHOKE jobs in recent history. But then, if they couldn't beat K.C. or Cle., what makes you think they could beat the Yankees or Texas?

dunn has more strikeouts than his batting average--- but he has more than 40 of the ding dong dilly of a dingers--- the nhl strike will be over soon--- the winter classic is going to be played at the big house in michigan--- 110,000 fans at an outdoor venue is something that the league cannot afford to lose....

I've been a White Sox fan forever, however the way they have been playing lately disgusts me.

They keep inserting that moron, Thornton, into the mix and he keeps giving up walks and hits and the losses mount.

I don't have all the answere, but I can tell you one thing; I will NEVER be a cub fan.

SSC New Topic:

A need for legislation?

I believe the PB&PA and FOP need a policy regarding the following. I would appreciate feedback from the membership, good, bad or indifferent.

Monday night I went to the Chicago White Sox game at U.S. Cellular Field. Security personnel were out with hand wands and randomly checking people. Not everyone, but some. Since I was armed I showed my ID to a security officer and identified myself. He asked me if I was armed and I told him the truth, yes I am. He was cordial but said I had to check my weapon before I went to my seat. I was taken aback, but not to cause a scene followed him to the security office where my ID was checked and I placed my weapon in a lockbox, kept the key and was instructed to return at the end of the game to reclaim it. I asked the female security officer present why I was being disarmed and her only responses were that it's the policy since last year, and it is because U.S. Cellular Field is private property.

I asked the security officer what agency he was with; he replied "state." I know from past experience that the off duty officers who work at Sox Park are unarmed, so I asked him who was armed. Who is responsible for the safety of us all I asked. He looked puzzled and did not answer.

When I went to my seat there was a man and woman two seats over in my section sitting behind an obviously intoxicated man. The intoxicated man was making himself a pest to the lady, who told him to leave her alone. It started to escalate to the point that her male companion told the man to knock it off. As I watched this unfold I couldn't help but realize I was not in a position to do anything more than call security. Now to the nay sayers who ask, "what were you going to do, put a gun to his head?"…I would answer, no, I would not, but I would have identified myself and told him to knock it off. If it escalated I would have had no problem taking whatever action would have been appropriate, including calling the security staff over or if necessary, making an arrest. I'm familiar with the Use of Force Model but the only tool in my tool box was the star in my pocket. No matter, before I could get security the intoxicated man decided to leave and that ended the problem.

What troubled me with this incident is that I am a Chicago Police Officer, in my jurisdiction, not drinking alcohol or using medication and was powerless to take action of any sort against any problem that may have arisen other than to call for unarmed security. Prudence would normally dictate calling the on duty security/police, but what if it had escalated beyond before I could get security? Should I just sit by and be a good witness? Am I not empowered by the virtue of my office and oath to do something? I say yes, I am. I've been the police for almost 30 years all told and have made many off duty arrests, including part I arrests. In this case though I was not in a position to handle any kind of escalation so all I could do was leave to get security.

Biggest Sox fan writing...., but Konerko needs to hang it up or move down in the order after Rios and AJ. How about letting that Johnson take his place. He is probably playing with that injured hand still and needs to be sat down. He is the weak link of the team along with Viciedo....nice sacrifice Wise amd nice base running Danks. 1-8 last 9 games is Cubs territory sadly

You guys are loosing to some of the worst teams and are now behind the Tigers.

It figures the second comment is about the Cubs. Good one Sox fan.How come no other dumb Sox fans commented about 2005, 1969, or it's been over a hundred years, yet

You should be happy that they played well all season, then again you wouldn't know because no one went to the games.
