Walking Downtown?

The Sun Times had an article up today about the dangers of walking downtown and we were thinking, "Thank goodness someone is finally going to warn the tourists about the wildings."

Boy, were we wrong:
  • In the Loop and on the Near North Side — the city’s central business district — one out of every four pedestrian crashes involved a taxi, according to CDOT’s 2011 Pedestrian Crash Analysis report.

Man/Woman versus taxi. How boring.

In other news, apparently Derrick King was arrested again, not beating anyone, but trespassing somewhere. Just another entry on a rap sheet that runs 30 or 40 pages now.

Hey, Chicago! You've had nearly four years of your adopted hometown son running things in this country?

How is that working out for you?

Are you enjoying the higher real estate taxes? How about the increase in the state income tax? You wouldn't forget the hike in the sales tax, too, would you?

All of your hard earned money is going to programs and services that a tax payer does not use.

Your mayor has money for bike routes, but not for police. The school system is stockpiled with inventory that never gets used and is overly management and executive heavy, yet, they cannot give a fair contract to the teachers.

You have more traffic cameras coming so that you can give the newest king who runs this city, more money for him to spend on his own pet projects that benefit his cronies.

Are you tired of it? If so, vote the Democrats out of office. If you want to continue paying taxes and fees so that recipients of your money don't have to work or be held accountable, then keep voting the silly way you have been. Eventually, you will be bled dry, but by then it will be too late.

Downtown is NOT SAFE. Not only do rif raff gang bangers cause problems but now lots of mentals are walking around causing problems.

Rahms and mcidiot need to pull cops out of the ghetto and protect the taxpaying and tourist areas first.

The victim and witness to King's last arrest actually recognized and knew exactly who he was. Of course he was piss drunk, harassing people as they were bbq'ing and enjoying their holiday. Once in lockup he began acting like a complete lunatic. Anyways, its good to know that the Citizens of the south loop are beginning to recognize him.

Wildings seemed to start up in 2009, many of us tried to get a handle on it. They'd go from 018 into 001 over the bridge and back. I could see it was going to get real, real bad. I can't believe how bad it is now. Made several arrests early on with the "wildings". You couldn't get me downtown now since I'm retired, even with the pistola. What a horrible situation. The hustlers paved the way for the wilders. Bad enough you would get hit up for money and cigarettes, even in uniform, That never ended well. I always said I would like to lock up the suckers that give them money, cause without them, there would not be as many problems. Citizens being dragged to to cash stations by hustlers to "Help the Homeless". Citizens being taken into 7-11's buying the hustlers, not food, but stuff they could sell, batteries soap, deodorant, cigarettes and beer. Yeah sell for dope money. When they were informed they were scammed, they looked at you like you were the bad guy. Such cold police. What Chumps they were! They didn't even realize they were being protected from being a potential robbery victim. A waste of my surveillance time. They would have never signed anyway. These idiots would let Derrick King engage them in conversation, telling them he was a stranded minister. GET A CLUE FOLKS! JUST WALK AWAY, REAL FAST. THESE ARE PREDATORS. DON'T HELP THEM MAKE YOU THEIR VICTIM! SCAMS: No they're not out of gas, they're not collecting for their murdered baby niece's funeral, even if they are carrying a child's photo, or the battered women's shelter, or the midget that collects for the "Boys and Girls Club" and has you sign his roster, (That'S for the children too), The m&m candy sales are not for benefit of any school. And don't pay the guy in the parking lot when it's unattended. Read the sign, you're out $20.00 and your car gets towed. And last but not least, when 10 or 15 punks run into a restaurant, passing out flyers for their basketball team, grab your purses, wallets and phones and get the hell out! It's all lost. God Bless CPD. Miss you guys.

A lot of angry campers in Rahm-allah land -- at the CTA meeting to cut bus routes

Yep, we took away the seniors free rides and are now cutting the number of buses even though ridership is growing as people cannot afford gas for their cars or the parking fees anymore..Just jammed the people in there. That bus only has 96 people in it, you can squeeze in a few more! It makes the apple picking so much easier that way I imagine.

Yeah it's always fun and a good time until someone gets hurt.

Ahhh.. nevertheless they'll have that $55 million dollar Maggie Daley park to sit in won't they? So it's all good. What are they whining about?

I mean as long as they don't bring any contraband like picnic stuff,or coolers, set anything down on the sidewalk, or step on the grass or hang out past the park curfew ordinances they should be okay.

That's money well spent!!!

Are their any more mental health facilities that the city can close?

If so maybe we can put in some more flower boxes in the green zone and down the gaze strip (Clark St.) and pretty things up for the onslaught of invisible NATO inspired tourist.

After all it's these facades that are needed so that we can present this place as a "World-Class" city.

Two World-Class homicides last night.

Another World-Class pizza driver shot and robbed.

Gang on gang, gang on cops, cops on gang, gang on pizza drivers...it's all good, it's all the same as long as you take your business in the alley.

Praise the almighty Obama and his cohorts at the DNC. Can I get a amen?

The Sun-Times as usual is missing the real story.

They report on the symptoms but ignore the root cause.

Chicago, has one of the highest taxi rates in the country and the worse taxi drivers.

The reason for such bad taxi drivers and high taxi fares is because, as usual, the politicians are more interested in serving special interests that give them money then they are concerned with doing the right thing for the city and citizens.

The medallion system totally shorts citizens and it results in the lowest common denominator of employee quality in taxi drivers.

The politicians have allowed the monopolization of taxi medallions by a few, especially the Russians. That has resulted in the elimination of the independent owner-operated taxi driver who could make a decent living, who cared about there Cab and there passenger and it has created insanely high taxi medallion prices.

The suspected laundering of monies from ill-gotten gains thru medallion purchasing is a story in itself. The fact is, it is the Russians that have primarily driven up the cost of medallions to insane levels and those in Chicago who rely on taxis for transportation are forced to reimburse these taxi barons investment thru obscenely inflated fares.

The citizen gets screwed again.

And, the clowns that say they are looking out for you, the politicians & lawyers, they are laughing all the way to the bank as they get paid with your money by the medallion monopoly mafia.

After the con, they've been paid back on the cost of the medallion, they own it and they make a killing.

They own the industry, you paid for it and they have killed all the competition.

What? The citizens don't like the cost and quality of drivers? Fuck em. They'll take what we give them and like it.

That's the story the eunuchs at the Sun-Times ought to be reporting.

Here's a good article on the rip-off of citizens:

This city is not safe. The "Magnificent Mile" is nothing more than expensive stores and a sidewalk full of homeless, crackheads and hoodrats that prey on tourists.

As for Derrick King...how is that animal still alive? He is a serious danger to the city and should be locked up with the other animals. Or even better, he fucks with the wrong person and someone takes care of Derrick once and for all.

What a mistake! Of all things the DNC wants to hang their hats on as a success!

"Chicago mayor Rahm Emanual: Obama went 'all-in' to save Chrysler and GM"

This is a good thing??

They point at the saving of jobs but what about all the collateral damage they have done to the free markets, wall street investors and small business in doing the bailouts.

Yeah don't look at that. YOU LOOK AT WHAT WE TELL YOU TO LOOK AT AND NOTHING ELSE!

Look beyond the so-called jobs saved by the bailouts and it's not just the auto industry bailouts either it's corporate tax breaks and tif plans and all the other pick and choose political bullshit that creates an unfair advantage.

You can call them unintended consequence or whatever but these bailouts are having a massive effect on business.

Why start a small business that would compete with the likes of Sears, Motorola, GM, Chrysler, JP Morgan...etc.. The minute that you show some signs of success along comes the Chicago mayor, the Illinois Governor or the president bailing out the legacy businesses with the failed business plans rewarding them with corporate welfare money to "save jobs"

Ahh. but look at what you've done to innovation and the companies competing by doing things better.

YOU put them out of business with your bailouts.

What happen to not messing with free trade? Picking and choosing which companies get the $100 million dollar Illinois corporate tax breaks is not free trade. How can a small business compete with that kind of corruption and favoritism?

The companies being bailed out -- why should they try anything new or innovative? That stuff cost money. Just fall back on some more corporate welfare when the last batch runa out. There's talk of GM looking for more already. Use the crisis. Use your workforce and the threat of beheading careers for extortion you'll get the money.

Millions of investors made the right calls. Millions of investors did their homework studying the auto markets, the banking industry, the financial data and spreadsheets.

They said man is GM eff'd up, is Chrysler eff'd up, is JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs eff'd up. They played fast and loose with their business plans and are going down. And so millions of these investors investing in places like Toyota and Ford and why not? When GM and Chrylser go bust people will still buy cars and these companies will benefit from their increased market share. They will need to hire more workers and increase plant size. Ahhh but then come Obama changing all the rules. Nope, here's $100 billion dollars so you can keep going now remember me when I have that campaign finance $40,000 dollar a plate dinner okay?

Everyone that played the game the right way got burned. The same holds true for the banking investors.

Look beyond what the media is trying to focus your attention on. It's the same M/O as the Chicago crime is down bullshit. The truth is out there on the blogs if you look for it.

These auto bailouts destroyed confidence in the markets and small business don't kid yourself with but
"we saved jobs" crap. It's all part of a campaign to validate there own political positions via this nonsense.

Thanks for your service, sir. They aren't making cops like you any more.

P.S. I hope somebody beats the hell out of Derrick King or worse and walks away and nobody says a thing. I hate to have to say that but that's what things have come to. I mean when our so called "legal"l and "corrections" system puts a turd like this back on the street what's the message? "We can fix this guys attitude. We don't have the money to keep you safe from him. It's up to society to keep this guy from being a threat to the community and he WILL hurt somebody again."

These are professionals, this has been going on down there (especially N. Clark Starbucks-and-trendy strip) for thirty years.

The same thing, guy in a dirty Carhartt overalls he found, hard hat he swiped, and a leather weightlifter's belt strapped over that! Waving a greasy car part at you (he found that in the gutter too.) Whole theater act, complete with elaborate props.

"Construction worker from Texas stranded here, need money to fix car and get home."

He went into a nearby convenience store and began pulling wad after wad of loose bills out of the front of those overalls, straightening them out on the counter. In there a long time.

I went in and asked the clerk, "How much money you give that guy big bills for?"

"Oh, it was about $400, and he bought two cartons of cigarettes, a couple bottles of good Scotch, etc."

This has been going on for AGES.

They WORK 'EM GOOD. They PLAY 'EM LIKE FISH ON A LINE.

GUILT TRIP GUILT TRIP GUILT TRIP.

The majority of the bums downtown, and around this entire city actually, don't even smoke. They sell the cigarettes as "loosies" on the South & West sides when they go HOME - they're not "homeless". A co-worker that lives on the west side told me this but really she didn't even have to. I know.

My last day of work on that pitiful Magnificent Mile, one of those urine drenched wretches (that your "world class" city ALLOWS to lay all over the streets as many as 4 per block) aggressively approached me - again. It's multiple times per DAY there. I left that job with a smile on my face knowing I NEVER had to go back there unless I wanted to. But I don't. See what would happen in Detroit if these pee stained, dangerous hobos were hanging all over the door of the GM Headquarters. It wouldn't happen though.

One of the Walgreen's managers was nearly in tears when I had finally had enough of one of them yelling racial slurs too. "I know, I know, we call the police all the time and they tell him to leave but he just comes right back". Again, she was nearly crying. Absolutely pitiful. The cops were in our street level office at least once a week because of these people. Our business was interrupted daily by them too. One that camped outside our office, harassed and insulted both our customers and employees daily resulting in a female police response (with a nose in the air) of "They're allowed to say that". Our business had members from around the globe stopping in - daily. There were threats by these people too.

Don't get me started on what is, again - ALLOWED - to go on inside one of your major tourist traps. "Pushing?". I've heard it all.

You people need to get over this PC crap and fast. I do believe it's too late though.

And I saw one person, probably a tourist, give one of these supposed down and out bums a fresh piece of pizza in a container. He responded, "I don't eat meat or cheese". Now you have organic homeless people in your "green" city that doesn't even have a bottle return law (frequently used as weapons in on of the better neighborhoods here).

You need constants sweeps to get these people off of your streets. Send them home. They have an address.

No they are not allowed to say that. I too am a female police officer, retired, who spent about a quarter of a century dealing with this. However, even though our court system is not what it should be, business people, owners, managers and clerks, do not want to sign complaints. Disrupting the flow of your business and harassing your customers is absolutely disorderly conduct, if threats are made it's an assault. When they are not arrested, expect them back every day. There were also businesses that signed complaints frequently, and never, I mean never showed up in court. What a waste of everyone's time. Bad guy didn't show up in court either, because they all know the game. Glad you made it out safe.

Are you enjoying the higher real estate taxes? How about the increase in the state income tax? You wouldn't forget the hike in the sales tax, too, would you?

= Rahm and Ommmma
Keep Voting them in

9:57 Your signature of "RETIRED" speaks volumes. Yes, they "are allowed to say that" according to the younger Hispanic female officer on your "Magnificent Mile". I would have MORE than happy to take the day off work to spend a day in court to get these subhuman creatures off of our doorstep so we could try to make a living (and someday retire like you) without constantly being interrupted. That option wasn't offered. Maybe she had a gun battle at the Water Tower to respond to?

She stopped that car in front of our building, turned her head the other way, and recited "they're allowed to say that". I responded, "that's a shame because I've never, ever heard these racial slurs in my 40 years in Detroit. You have an absolutely pitiful city". She replied, "it is" and drove off. Sorry to bother you today!

I just had to turn this TV off. There is not a black man that looks, acts or talks like him on the streets of Chicago, in the workplace in Chicago, in a bar in Chicago, in a shopping mall in Chicago, on the lakefront in Chicago.......it's a lie. Chicago is a phony, image seeking, lie.

Again, your "RETIRED" status speaks volumes. Maybe this city was all that back in the day. I'll never know. I wasn't here.

I've seen your replacements literally chomping on donuts being deplorably disrespectful to patrons in a Lakeview store with your lunches spread out on counters where people would like to pay for their goods. I didn't say a word, just stared her in the eye. She caught on and moved all her sh*t. I know there is good/bad in all but you people don't impress me here. Especially the cop that damn near ran me over while trying to cross the street. I shouted "it's bad enough the taxi driver's do that, but you cops here do it too?!? I can't wait to do that to your Mother". He chuckled like a punk and continued his conversation with his passenger/fellow officer.

I am not sure who I am responding to, because your post time is off. Yes I'm RECENTLY retired and now I am sorry I took the time to respond to you graciously. So sorry for still caring for some citizens in Chicago. And also so sorry for not getting free lunches AND I DIDN'T EAT DOUGHNUTS. Still retired and thanks for proving my point. I also didn't run anyone over in 25 years, even the people that walked in front of me with all my emergency equipment on, against the traffic signals. Oh i know "I'm not from here."

RETIRED

(And I guess I should be sorry), Oh I forgot this was my second carreer CAUSE THE CITY WASN"T GIVING ANY TESTS! No I am not 46 and retired IDIOTS
