And Another Thing....

....this "shot spotter" crap?

Even if it managed to beat a cell phone caller to the punch (which it hasn't);

AND police actually arrived on the scene within moments of the shots being fired (which has happened without shot spotter)

AND the program was able to determine an actual fixed address where the shots originated from (we have no idea of the software is that integrated);

...without actually seeing the shots coming from a house, does anyone realistically believe that we're just going to start kicking in doors and ransacking homes/apartments looking for the gun and/or shooter?

In this day and age?

With the amount of punitive damages and such being assessed against officers?

With the number of officers at callback?

With the brass we have in place who wouldn't back their own mother in a parking lot fender-bender?

And even if we did, without the gun being in the hand, let alone the same room as the suspect shooter, does anyone really think Anita is going to charge anyone with the felony?

That sound you hear is millions of dollars being flushed down the toilet - again. Millions that could hire more actual officers.

EVERY shot fired is let loose at SOME kind of address.

10-flat?

30-unit courtyard building?

20-story high-rise? We start with Apt. 101 and work our way up or what?

Never happened that someone banged off a gun in front of a place and then ran away/drove away.

Even if the f__ing thing could manage to find the right side of the street and read the Scotch-taped note on the mailbox for the illegal apartment in back, the shooter's g-o-n-e.

If you're lucky. There are worse scenarios.

Don't trust this thing any farther than you can spit.

OFF TOPIC..... While in attendance at today's Bears game at Soldier field, I just happened to look up at the Jumbotron and saw Chicago's own Herbie Pulgar holding a camera in a pre-recorded segment for Lawrence Youth home in where it clearly appeared he was throwing up a pitch fork as he was holding a camera. Little bastard is something else.

Yes, but........

Shot Spotter doesn't get paid.

Doesn't need time off.

Doesn't talk back to some meritorious, clout ridden hack who has been promoted WAY beyond her actual abilities ( Lt. A.S. up north comes to mind)and does what it was built to do.

If a shit head gets caught, Rahm will praise the system telling everyone what a smart fellow he is in having it brought to Chicago.

If it fails to live up to all the hype spewing from city hall, Rahm will just have Gary blame the rank and file for not responding in a timely fashion.

Win - Win

Shotspotter has been around and installed on several cameras for nearly an entire decade. The failed technology went like this:

3 microphones mounted on or nearby the camera are used to determine shot location using the doppler effect, meaning time received on each microphone is analyzed and time shift shows direction. It's pathetic and it never worked and never can work except in very limited circumstances where the camera and microphones are located in a totally open environment where the sound will strike each microphone as it originally happens.

The problems then, and the same physics problems that exist now, is that none of these systems can be placed in any locations where the scum shoot each other because it all occurs in residential neighborhoods where people actually LIVE, meaning they have houses there.

You can't mount this stupidity in an alley because the buildings screw up the signals received by the microphones, as do trees nearby and any other semisolid object that reflects sound waves.

Not to mention the fact that these "new" systems are supposed to swing the camera towards where the system "thinks" the sound is coming from to capture the event.

Again, only in totally open and clear environments did it ever manage to work SOMEIMES.

In an urban environment, it NEVER works.

#1. The physics of sound in urban environments completely renders useless the "detection" system of the microphones that rely on acoustic delay for the dopler examination.

#2. Unless the camera has a completely clear 360 degree view around it, when it DOES finally think it knows where a shot came from, it will arbitrarily swing towards a wall, a house or some other closest solid object because that's were the first reflection came from.

Or it just swings right towards a building that it obviously can't see through.

So no, this is McDrunkenFuck trotting out 10 year old failed technology to keep the shitheadgoround spinning until winter hits and he can stop with the lies for a few months.

Yes, the Police!

Two questions.

1. What happened to the case of the exempt's daughter and her gangbanger friend having guns and drugs in the exempt's condo?

2. What happened to the Dan Webb independent investigation of the Vaneco punch and run case?

Hopefully he did a better job than he did trying to get his disgrased EXgovernor Ryan out early!!

Just Asking: What happens if the device is your "Probable Cause" or "Reasonable Suspicion"; has this device/system been validated in a court? If it hasn't, then whomever uses it as the basis of thier arrest, pursuit or search may be in for one rude awakening! The Supreme Court is reviewing two cases right now on the issue of drug sniffing dogs. Now remember these dogs are highly trained, certified and re-certified on a regular basis. Can that be said about these sound systems? Would a Chicago winter have any effect on their reliability? How often will these devices need to be tested and certified? The whole issue of maintaining and certification is vital to the reliability of these systems. Loevy & Loevy should not be the ones to judge the accuracy of these devices. "Baby G"

I have to agree with the writer who sounds caution. I am from a different era. I worked tact 30 years ago . If I did the things today we did back then I would be risking my job, my freedom and my families finacial security. We got the job done, but had the backing of the department and no one had cameras to record selective scenes. We knew the gangbangers and drug dealers and we went after them, agressively !. Must be cautious today .

Everyone knows all about Lil Scumbag by now...i.e., THIS IS INTENTIONAL. They're rubbing decent people's faces in it.

This is good. Keep throwing up s__t in a real big way. The ones with the hat to the other side see this too. He will be found unresponsive somewhere before he hits 21.

Mom find her dream Tupac Shakur lookalike yet?

Dad get extradited from Venezuela on those drug running charges yet?

City Treasurer Susana Mendoza ever open her personal pocketbook and hand a thousand dollars to some elderly crime victim who needed new eyeglasses and new dentures and new ID and new bus pass and new medication and the locks changed again and her grocery money for the month was gone?

Lowest of the low.
