FOP Endorsements

We went over to their page and this appears to be true:
  • So let me get this straight, Mikey Sellout Shields and Dan I hide under my desk Gorman endorse Martwick a Son of a Democrat machine operative from NORRIDGE to rep Jeff Park over a Chicago Cop in the primary. NOW, They don't endorse him in the general. You two are really stupid.
So Martwick isn't good enough to get an endorsement in the general election,  but if he's running against a Chicago cop, he gets the endorsement lest she win and throw a wrench into Machine operations?  Are we getting this right?

Someone want to explain?  And don't fall back on her allegedly poor performance before the political action committee or whatever they are - we want to know why the FOP isn't backing their choice all the way to the swearing in ceremony.  Because if our reps aren't there when they take the oath of office, there's no way they're taking our calls when legislation is up.

And why the fuck are we endorsing Anita Alvarez again?

The question is - why have police at all if you're going to have a State's Attorney like this?

The FOP or the newspapers shouldn't be endorsing anyone. If you aren't educated or informed enough to make your own decision, you should not be voting anyway. People or organizations telling people how to vote is how we got into the mess we're in.

just so we all know who Martwick's Daddy is

A former Assistant States Attorney, Bob Martwick tried over 60 felony jury trials. Mr. Martwick has lectured at DePaul University School of Law, the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education, and was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to serve on the Committee on Character and Fitness. [That's a joke!] Mr. Martwick has served as the Democratic Committeeman of Norwood Park Township since 1969 and currently serves as Secretary of Cook County Democratic Party.

FOP endorses disabled, retirement eligible copper for the Active seat.

Active coppers already had no representation with Shields, now we have a second retiree on the board?

Retiree Hauser, Lt. member is ancient, the Sgt is young, (but a boss), and now there's a 60 year old disabled copper running as the "Active PO" That's the best candidate for beat cops.

Who does FOP represent, I'll tell you, the 600 retirees who showed at the last General Meeting -- Except Harold Brown and Ron Shogren.

Mike Lappe was a beat cop, till the day he was shot. He is active PO, not retired. The Department offered him duty disability pension. Mike refused it and wanted to go back to work. He worked hard to rehab himself and came back to work.

His heart and soul are in this job. Say what you will but he is no slouch and I have no doubt he will give this job his total good effort. I am not sure if the term is 3 years or 4 but I spoke to him tonight and he said he could finish out his term. So, assuming he told the truth I see no reason he cannot have a fair shot at that office.

There are also other candidates, knowledgeable and concerned for police officers. I think Kevin Jans or Brock Merck would both do the job well.

Remember, there is no extra pay, he gets patrolman pay, no more.

Fill out your choice and mail it back in when you get that ballot, coming in the US Mail soon.

Yes, you are correct, you didn't get a vote because none were sent out. The Board of Directors vote on who to endorse after interviewing the candidates who ask for the endorsement. If they don't ask they aren't considered for endorsement, at the local level.

And if ballots were sent out you can bet the mortgage payment that not more than 30% would be returned, if that many.

So what does a PAC committee do?

I'm confused, how can you be "active duty" working light duty spots for 25 years? Looks like FOP found an effective way to get around active officers. Don't need to get a vote from us if they can change by laws using only retirees. Nothing against retired brothers. Maybe the retirees will catch the next Constitutional Amendment slipped through. Can't count on the FOP to take care of biz. I'm not voting for anyone they endorse.

What people don't know is that he sued the police department and pension board to be given a limited job. Not other disabled officers got cushy desk jobs. HE SUED!!!!! Very close friends of sue freak Miller-Shemash. Remember the disability lug nut queen who is remaining on 75% duty disability for a non in-the-line of duty injury? 10/17/2012 09:31:00 AM

I pay dues also. And I work in a district, not for FOP. Familiarize yourself with the endorsement process. To get one from FOP you have to ask for it, in writing. The FOP always has asked for and rarely received, letters or statements from officers who have some reason why a candidate should not get the FOP endorsement. I typically do that with judges who show a definite anti police attitude in court. And it has worked more often than not. If you have a real beef against someone, put it in writing well ahead of the election and send it to the board through the president or 1st vice president.

It costs at least 10 or 15 thousand to do a mailing to all officers and more with a ballot inside. And then there is the cost of tabulating what they get back. That 30% number is accurate. Usually the return rate is less than that.

Even for an election for officers. And for that they send out self addressed envelopes with stamps on them. People still send those back via police mail in spite of clear instructions to use US Mail only because they only accept ballots from that PO Box or in person on election day.

So really, I wasn't giving you an arrogant answer, I was telling you the truth as I have seen it over the past 27 years.

Wonder why Mikey Boy?? You don't want the truth out. Well its coming out and I will be going to newspapers and investigative reporters..How do like them apples?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Strongly urges means a threat if he is not elected. Officers, do you homework and read the sun times article. You Do not want anyone in office associated with the city, FOP or connections. Offcers will be screwed over thousand times! He knows nothing about finances, nor accounting. Vote Koszola, CPA if you want brainac..

Campbell, jans, kozola, mccall, merck, an the swat guy. What do they all have in common? The only time they were ever at the pension board was to pick up and drop off their petitions to run for office.

Lappe hasn't missed a meeting in years. He actually knows what transpires there. That has to count for something.

Get outta here. Do you really want to go there? What those officers have in common is they are full duty, not light duty. Yeah know the other guy is said to be full duty but that's not really true as far as assignment. So he sued and spent a lot of time down there. With your theory, all disabled officers that go down there are qualified too! I bet less than 1% of full duty officers go to pension board meetings. Where the hell are they posted? Never seen it. Doesn't mean cops don't care. Someone disabled like the one candidate is gonna be down there anyway. That's bs to even use as a criteria.

Campbell spoke at our roll call a few nights ago. It was good to put a face to the name but that's the only one we met. I guess we were too far south for the other candidates. She made excuses for them saying they weren't given enough time to do all the roll calls. I don't know she seemed sincere so I'll let you guys off the hook. I voted for her for making the effort.

Vote for someone who knows what is going on not someone who uses the Sun Times to make himself look good, while making other officers look bad. It is great that Mike Lappe was able to come back to work. This does not make him the right man for the job. Please put someone in who will look out for us. Not man at the end of his career looking to make a name for himself. Hoodwinked c'mon does he really even know what is going on out there.

From: John Flisk, Candidate for Patrolman’s Trustee Chicago Police Pension Board

Like you, I am and have always been concerned with the welfare and funding of our pension.  Over the years, we've watched as our pension fund has dropped to a dangerously low 39.7% funded. We've seen underhanded "insider" deals like the one given to former Mayor Daley's nephew that contributed to dramatic investment losses. And we see politicians making attempts to change our protected pension by trying to change our State Constitution.

As a result, I feel I need to do something more than complain and that's why I decided to run for Trustee.

Once elected:
·         I will never vote “yes” to any investment that does not 100% benefit the membership.
·         I will maintain a website to keep members informed of  everything from votes cast by the other Trustees to proposals presented to the Board for consideration.
·         I will keep members up-to-date on pending legislation regarding public pensions, such as Constitutional Amendment 49.
·         I will be a vocal spokesman for the pensioners. The Patrolman’s Trustee represents the most members of the pension, and I believe the Trustee needs to be aggressively vocal on behalf of the members.

I have visited rolls calls in every Police District; talking with police officers and answering their questions. I am the only candidate running for this position who considers this election important enough to take the time to talk to my fellow officers.  There is more to running for this position than getting my name on the ballot, leaving some flyers around the stations, and hoping I win. I will be equally dedicated and tireless in representing your interests on the Pension Board.

Brotherhood is very important to me. This election is not about my winning, but about giving everyone the opportunity to vote for the person who can do the best job. Don’t vote for someone just because you worked with them, or because they’re “nice,” or because the FOP tells you to do so. Vote for the person who is best for the job. If I lose to the better candidate, then we all benefit. But I am confident I am that person, and I hope I have your vote and support.
Thank You.
Jack Flisk

No endorsement.

Unit Reps were asked to poll the membership at roll calls. Too few responses were received. I know, "they should'a sent out ballots to 'da membership, fucking FOP."

And those ballots would still be sitting on PO's dressers or kitchen tables at Christmas time like they usually are.
