NYPD in Trouble (UPDATE)

Comments here and over at TheeRant say that the 60th and 100th Precincts are being evacuated of police officers.  Buildings are being hit hard by flooding and have no power.  News reports across the board say Lower Manhattan is taking a beating and electrical grids are failing.

Prayers for our brothers and sisters in New York and all those affected.

UPDATE: A huge fire has already destroyed 50 homes in Queens.  FDNY can't get to the blazes due to impassible streets - and this is just a small corner of New York.  The entire eastern seaboard and surrounding states are getting trashed badly.

I've been watching the coverage on TV. Scary stuff. Makes you wonder how screwed up things would be if that happened here. I can't even imagine it. Good luck to everyone affected by this hurricane.

According to some of the online papers, power was deliverately cut to save electrical equipments from damages from the storm. Generator in some places failed to operate properly like in hospitals, not a good sign. Motorola mobility is to provide portable transmitters for public safety. God bless everybody in NY and the rest of the east coast.

OT: Anyone else have problems with Nationwide? they seem to operate like a cheap neighborhood currency exchange, worse even. When taking a distribution they take advantage of every single thing they can to get more float out of the funds. Three business day wait on a direct deposit, no interest, yet funds are gone from my account.

Their Chicago office is understaffed and the people who are there are definitely NOT like the commercial, "Nationwide is on your side." Bullshit, they are full of shit.

As soon as you can retire, pull your funds and roll it over to a reputable bank, if there is such a thing these days.

Edwards said it is important that gun owners know their rights, especially ahead of potential disasters like Hurricane Sandy. In 2006, then-President George W. Bush signed an executive order called the Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act that strengthened individual gun rights during a national emergency.

“What that bill did…it basically says to law enforcement across the country, that you cannot violate the rights of American gun owners, even in a state of emergency, you can’t violate federal law, you can’t violate state law,” Edwards said. “If that happens, then the punishment for those law enforcement agencies is a loss in federal funding.”

NYPD here thanks for the support and prayers. Work in the 17th pct which covers the east side of midtown near the UN along the east river. Storm surge flooded the basement of NYU medical center and backup power failed. Patients including critical care newborns had to walk down up to 9 flights of stairs to waiting ambulances. Newborns had nurses ventilating them on hand held respirators on thr walk down. Debris eveywhere. Facades of buildings blown off. And we are not one of the hard hit areas. Thanks again and stay safe brothers.

OT: I was readin Moprah this morning and she says that the guy who killed Ben Wilson says that he was coerced into confessing to the robbery/gang angle to his murder. For you younsters out there, Ben Wilson was the next great basketball player and he was murdered near Simeon HS in 1984. He really was good. Two were convicted and the shooter did 19 yrs, and his pal did 15. Now the shooter is saying he was defending himself. The pal isn't saying much, he caught a robbery case in 2007 and is doing a 40 year bit now. So the two of them copped to the robbery in 84, the pal took 40 on another robbery, but now it's self defense. Does she even read what she writes?

By the way, there had been a hiring freeze in 82/83 and into 1984. When Ben got killed, the community howled not enough police, and the hiring restarted in early 85. I was hired in early 85 off the 81 test, and there was a class per month through 85, and more in 86. So regardless of the reason they killed him, it led to my hiring, which led to a nice career and my current retirement. So good out of bad.

Be safe everybody!

You could send a hurricane, a tornado, a flood, a tsunami, a volcanic eruption, an earthquake, a plague, Vlad the Impaler, and an iceberg to descend on 007 or 011, and there would still be survivors to multiply like rats or cockroaches. About the only thing that might work would be to turn everyone into pillars of salt, but even that probably wouldn't work.

I'm not retired yet, but I'm trusting your assessment of them. But I have two questions.

1) Can you do that?
2) Are there ANY reputable banks?

And if either of them are true, then why haven't you done it? I don't mean that sarcastically, I'm just wondering if it's too hard to do or whatever.

Thanks for the heads-up about them.

I think there have been banks and credit card companies who've had to pay millions for doing similar things to their customers. Might want to document it and send it to the feds (for whatever that's worth). I'd Google it and see if there are similar problems or maybe a class-action suit already in the works.

Debra Kirby is in trouble at 219 S. Dearborn St US Northern District of Illinois Court room:

Debra Kirby, who was the head of Internal Affairs Division at the time of the 2007 beating, testified she wanted to seek felony charges against the officer, Anthony Abbate. (Yeah Right)

Kirby appeared tense on the witness stand in the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse as she answered a series of questions by attorney Terry Ekl, who is representing the bartender, Karolina Obrycka, in her federal suit against Abbate and the city. (her hands were moist and she was breathing heavy)

Kirby is currently the chief of the department's Bureau of Organizational Development and formerly served as general counsel under former Superintendent Jody Weis. (PAR Form- Resignation Papers)

Kirby's testimony is central to Obrycka's allegation that the department tried to cover up or minimize the 2007 beating.
(Kirby Must Go)
Kirby and Ekl sparred over the first question, disputing whether she was called to the superintendent's "conference room" or "office" when the department brass first learned of the videotape of the beating at Jesse's Short Stop Inn on the Northwest Side.

During about 40 minutes of aggressive questioning, Ekl pressed Kirby on how she described the vicious beating to officials at the Cook County state's attorney’s office. (Kirby pouped inside her underwear)

Kirby denied multiple times that she ever pushed for misdemeanor charges against Abbate and said the prosecutors rejected felony charges. (Override?)

"Absolutely, I never said that," Kirby testified. " … I was not certain where we were heading with that, but we were investigating a felony." (Sounds like a Rule 14 Violation)

In opening statements last week, Ekl maintained that Kirby soft-pedaled the attack in a phone call to a high-ranking prosecutor. (Basis for a Rule 14 Violation)

Kirby also denied directing Internal Affairs Division investigators to take a blank misdemeanor complaint form to Obrycka's house for her to sign.
(Basis for a Rule 14 Violation)

Abbate was initially charged with a misdemeanor, but the charges were upgraded to felonies after Obrycka's attorneys, concerned the beating was being covered up, released the videotape to the news media, causing a firestorm of criticism for the department.

OT Did anyone see Kirby trying to get away from federal court today after her statements conflict with IAD investigator regarding bar beating case case?

What did the first responding officers catch for this crap?

I said it before she was the reason that Cline was thrown under the bus on this matter.

The original investigation was a simple battery. All department members know they would never have gotten felony approval for this.

Until the video came out and the fact the drunk was off duty.

Now it shows how bad the IAD IPRA investigation was to begin with.

The city better settle now or it will hurt us later.

OT:

I'm sorry, I didn't know where else to post this.

First, I hope this isn't taken as disrespectful to put this here because my thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the hurricane, and I plan on making a big donation.

That said, I heard a political radio ad saying that Rahm has raised over a million dollars for someone he wants on the Supreme Court of Illinois.

I think the ad was for a guy named Riley, and all I remember is it said "Punch 72 (I think) to vote for him. I didn't even hear what he was running for. The ad was excellent, he talked about how Rahm won't be happy until he controls everything, including having influence in the IL Supreme Court. It talked about how Rahm took the teacher's union to court, and he's going to do the same to the rest of the unions.

I have to say, his message was compelling--I wanted to vote for him just after hearing that one ad.

Anyone else heard it? Can anyone verify what it said, or does anyone know his story? If what is said about Rahm is true, it's truly frightening.

Just wanted to make people aware to look this Riley guy up.

We all know judges are controlled--but for some reason, what was said struck me as much more sinister---and it's not like this is the first political ad I've heard.

I've bought furniture with a lifetime guarantee, only to have each and every one of them go out of business.

It's rare for any company to remain in business that long.

The benefits of these leases must be up front, and gained shortly after the initial signing...because as we all know, things change. There must be rewards for the negotiators and the signers, and I'd bet they get them quickly.

Someone needs to look at the contracts. Every city contract should be public information, and published online.

If there were any media in this city, they'd look into this.

Follow the money. Always.

"Any word on getting the National Guard out here" reply "we've been unable to get in touch with them"

It's not funny, and totally believable....but I can just picture it--"I gave you the number"--"No, you have the number"--"Hey, does anybody remember where we put that number?"

And NYC is supposed to be prepared. Imagine when a disaster hits here. It will be a clusterfuck of a magnitude bigger than the disaster itself. I know that doesn't make sense, but you know what I mean.

--------------------------

That's a true story!

Yep.. nice communications after all the 911 rework eh.. I can imagine it....

Maybe we can raise them on the zone. Hey squad what's the position for the Nat. Guard on this radio? Uhh wut?

Meanwhile at the N.G OEMC...we were waiting for the phone to ring and it never did so we thought you had it under control. You have to request us to come out. We can't just act on our own.

Heck-of-a-job Brownie in his underground spider hole saying: been there/done that.

There should be an awful lot of building facility managers and I/T disaster recovery people out of a job in NYC shortly.

Your don't just buy a generator and your done. Idiots installing these things in the sub basements. No periodic testing. People calling around asking for jerry cans of fuel to run them after the pumps are out and the gas is contaminated in the underground tanks. Seriously? At hospitals too! You're GONE!!

Heard at least one call for smoke in a generator room from last night.

Don't worry; if the world ends on 21 Dec, you'll never even know it. Poof. Gone.

Hey 901pm get your head out of the commanders back side for 5 minutes and think. Where oh where can we get spare officers from. Hmmmm maybe officers on furlo could go and lend a hand. Like you I understand that we are short handed. But if I was on furlo and the department offered. I would volunteer a few days of my time to help my brothers on the east coast.

the 2nd picture s of Brezzy point in Queens a blue collar working neighborhood lots of NYPD and FDNY live there the local parish church was burned to the ground also over 100 homes were gone from a fire they couldn't get trucks there because of the flooding and then when they got them there was no pressure from the hydrants that they were able to find.

Did anyone see the statue of the Blessed Mother at Breezy Point. Looked a little brown in a grotto but completely in tact. It gave me big chills! I think she was watching over those people. It is amazing so many people survived.
