Blame the Judges

One of the better explanations we've seen as to why criminals keep getting out early:
  • The answer is simple, Nobody and that means you and I, hold the courts accountable. In the last election once again ALL judges were retained including one who has been declared mentally ill, and has herself physically attacked a deputy!

FOP has not led an effective effort to stop a judge from being retained since Officer Cathy Touhy was beaten and disfigured by an offender, who was later given probation, and that was in the 1980's! Following that incident the FOP led a drive to have the judge responsible kept from re-election and we succeeded.

But that was then and this is now, and today when Burke slates a judge, that judge is given a judgeship FOR LIFE! Burke has the power otherwise restricted to the President when he gives a Federal Judgeship for life. And the public and cops who have to live with these animals are expendable. Nobody cares about the citizen victims who because of poverty or race have to live with the pieces of shit that these noble jurists decide to release on the public.
Back when Passarella (spelling?) was unseated, the FOP had columnist Mike Royko leading the charge.  And even then, it was a close thing. We've done what we could for numerous elections, voting "no" on every single judge and encouraging everyone else to do the same.  We just don't have enough true believers at the moment.  Or those who know from personal experience that there isn't a single Cook County judge that is deserving of re-election.

S.C.C. says>..."We've done what we could for numerous elections, voting "no" on every single judge and encouraging everyone else to do the same. We just don't have enough true believers at the moment. ...."

This is the WRONG thing to do.

Why should any judge do anything for us when all cops, those few (23-25%) who bother to vote will vote against them anyway.

What we need is a comprehensive, based on fact, not the Bar Association or Democratic Party handout list of who to vote for.

Let's get that together. Let's make the good judges earn our vote and the rest FEAR US. The gangbangers know who to vote for.

I voted no on every single judge. Sadly few others did the same. Wake up!

I agree, judges should be held accountable. There's a courtroom in 26/cal #302/301 Judge Hooks and that judge is always favoring to the criminal. Even before the cases get presented, know that if you are in that room that the police has a 99.9% loosing rate. If you have that judge, know that he is for the criminal and accept that he will try by any angle to let them off. He always sides with the criminal and his ending comments are to support the criminal and always make the officer look bad. People get so happy when he gets sick, it's the only time that court room sees justice.

In each election, are the ballots the same at all polling places? I'm talking about the form, not the content. This last election, I was expecting to vote using the electronic voting machine but when I arrived I was told that they did not have any available and was handed 2 large ballot slips. To make matters worse, to cast a vote using these slips you had to complete the arrow pointing to the canidates name (shade it in). That took a lot longer and I will admit I felt like just leaving most blank, especially when it came to the judges.

When all else fails find someone to blame. So why not the fop? Here's a better question. How many coppers call the fop to complain about judges? I'd bet few ever call. I know even less take the time to even vote in an election.

The blog seems to think it knows all. So, where were your recommendations as to which judges should be dumped?

No, wait - didn't we actually get rid of three or four of the worst in November?

Cynthia Brim

Gloria Chevere

and a couple others whose names escape me at the moment.

Not exactly stellar performance, but not a total loss, either.

Judges aren't being held accountable when you vote no on every Judge. You are voting against both good and bad judges. It would make a much stronger statement if the FOP identified 1 judge per election who needs to go.

We know how to stop it, it's a question of when.I see this country headed toward real trouble if the courts and politicians don't stop their run at a dictaorship. It's happened before and it will happen again. This is a time in history when we should all be on the same page but our current leaders seem to have other ideas. You can push the American people just so far, and I think we are on the lip of a violent cliff!

that judge is always favoring to the criminal
=================
It is the job of the judge to make sure the defendant gets a fair shake as best that can happen. that can seem like being against the police.

As long as guilty defendants go to jail, who cares if the judge is not harsh with the defendant.

It is not the job of the judge to make up for poorly prepared ASAs, marginal cases, and/or poor police work.

I voted against retention of every single judge too. I did some research and there's almost no way to determine their performance.

Well Asshat, since this is obviously your first visit here, why don't you take a tour through our archives and see how many posts we've put up telling everyone to vote against all judges in Cook County. There isn't an honest judge in the bunch. Period. We might not know all, but we know a broken system when we see it.

We've opened up numerous comment sections to people who'd like to tout certain judges, but that doesn't dissuade us from our courses of action.

Great idea. Implement it. Get the public helping out in cleaning up the court system.

One of the best suggestions I have read here AND it is do-able.

Get on it.

Next case.

So, if I understand correctly, you are saying that police officers should look to the blog for guidance, rather than the FOP?

Ex-cop Cooley tells all in his book, "When Corruption Was King" on how he 'fixed' the case with then Judge Passaralla,(vs.CPD Cathy Touhy) among others.
Get the book from the library, it makes for interesting reading, especially the 1st Ward politics/politicians.

In the Officer Cathy Touhy case, Michael Colella was found 'not guilty' by Judge Lawrence Passarella in a bench trial, contrary to strong testimony to the contrary. Robert Cooley decided to go to the Feds and volunteer to wear a wire after that case.
