Breaking - Vanecko Indictment

Still a long way from a conviction, but good news for the moment:
Eight years late, but some comfort to his mother.

The big story here is the 100% cover up by King Daley's crew. Everyone that works for the city knows that you do what Daley wants. The cover up is as obvious as the sunrise. I'm sure some people were taken care of some way some how for it.

No detective would ever make a case against a Daley family member and no ASA would ever charge a Daley family member. All they had to do is make the case look like shit.

Think that rotten, thieving $Ritchie Daley is seething?
I'd love to see that rotten prick indicted for what he's done to our pension fund. Why hasn't he been sued for intentional breach of fiduciary duty?

Instead of holding him and his ilk responsible Rahm wants to put it squarely on our shoulders and squeeze concessions out of us. Political hypocrisy.

As you well know, SCC, a deflated football can be indicted by a grand jury. Let's see how it all plays out, shall we? If it comes to trial, it will be a loser for Anita & co., but at least she can stare those news cameras down and state emphatically, 'not on my watch. We ran with it, took the evidence and sent the case to trial. The people have spoken.' Everyone walks away feeling good, with their heads held high because they 'did the right thing,' except for the dead kid's mother, of course.

Good deal.

Mayor Porky Da Pig gonna weigh in from some podium with a corporate logo repeated and repeated on the background paper? Dripping sweat? "Buh dee, buh da, buh doo, I,I,I."

Right.

Best wishes to the Koschman family; sorry for this eight years of hell, and hope that some resulution comes here, some peace for you.

Vanecko is no different than some of the thugs who are career criminals. Difference is clout and family connections. When he pulled a shotgun on someone at 17, he should have been arrested then. He got to breathe air and hang out in Hollywood for 8 years, like his cousin got to vanish as well. You punch someone while drunk, they die, it is jail time. Sorry. And the cops who covered it up, you need to be punished as well.

The FOP better record what happened today with Rahm putting all the extra NATO money toward violence reduction stuff with kids and after school crap.
This would have been a perfect opportunity for the city to start fulfilling their pension liabilities. So in court/arbitrator the person will know that the city has plenty of money to just throw away toward these stupid programs instead of their actual liabilities,

----------------------------------

If it's determined that they knuckled under to political pressure, and obstructed their own investigation because of that, why shouldn't they get jammed up?

There is no way that this investigation wasn't influenced by people with political juice, just as it would have been had the shoe been on the other foot.

There's no doubt that if Vanecko had been on the losing end of a punch and died, the full resources and weight of the CPD and states attorney would have come down, hard, on Kloschman.

This whole affair reeked of political influence from the very start, and if some careers get hung out to dry because of that, so be it.

You are an ass. There was no reason for a cover up when the drunk witnesses gave conflicting stories, couldn't describe the offender, and later could not ID the supposed offender.
If there was a cover up, who profited? No one involved was ever promoted. No one suddenly started driving a Lexus, no one when on a European vacation or bought a ranch in Aspen. As they say: Show me the money. No one can because it just didn't happen.
There never is any reason to submarine a case that is crap from the get go.

Where is the cover up? Nobody identified Vanecko in a line up ever! There was no cover up by the police the Cook County States Attorney's office may have some problems. The only mistake that was made is that Vanecko came in he should have been arrested, sat for 48 hours, then the case should have been presented to Felony Review. This is not now nor has it ever been a Homicide.

It is NOT in the DNA of any direct Daley male decendant to join the active military (or pursue any other "in harm's way" type stuff for that matter) and leave a six figure job of rubbing one out on other people's money.

BTW... Was there EVER any clarification as to what the hell his MOS was?

We don't recall galavanting from post to post in the Middle East & The Hindu-Kush trying to stay a step ahead of being sat down and talked to by the G as being qualified for a damned thing.

MSN Local obviously have their heads up their asses to give the Sun Times credit for this story "breaking" in 2011 when here on SCC there have been posts after posts for YEARS regarding this scandal being covered up by Daley and Anita Alvarez. MSN had no comments opened or I would have posted about MSN's agregious error giving all the credit to the Sun Times. A shame that a source as formidable and unforgiving and relentless as SCC, once again, doesn't get the credit you deserve, but the thieving media who troll here, and are pretty much do nothings in this city, do.:

R.J. Vanecko, the namesake nephew of former mayor Richard J. Daley, has been charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter in the 2004 death of David Koschman. The charge was announced Monday. Koschman died from a single punch thrown during a drunken argument in the early morning hours of April 25, 2004. The cold case had remained dormant until a new investigation was sparked by questions originally raised by the Chicago Sun-Times in January 2011. At the time of his death Koschman was 21 and Vanecko 29. An argument broke out after one group bumped into the other.

DON'T EXACTLY KNOW WHERE YOU'RE GOING WITH THIS SINCE THE LAST LINE CONTRADICTS THE FIRST.
The St Louis case was a valid verdict. You had a jagoff harassing a woman then attacks the guy with her, so the tough guy who KILLED another person is rightfully going to jail.
Vanecko is no different, started shit and killed a kid to show off in front of his thug friends. Hopefully the verdict will be no different.
Its not self defense when you're the asshat starting the shit.

I commiserate with your problems with the political corruption in Shicago, Crook County, Ill-annoy.
I have a foolproof solution from late 18th Century Paris.

Set up guillotines next to the Picasso in your town square. Prepare with horse-drawn carts to parade the doomed scoundrels throughout your city en route to the guillotine.

For the first beheadings, include Richard Shortshanks, Madigan, Quinn, Durbin, Emanuel and the editors of your local newspapers. High noon scheduling with pay television coverage could contribute to a windfall of monies for depleted taxpayer coffers. Reveling spectators would be appropriately charged for attendance at the venue. Authenticated blood-soaked rags could be sold as souvenirs at the Picasso or on eBay or craigslist.

Place their severed heads on 20 foot pikes for public display until they disappear from raptors, maggots and the summer sun.

Then it's time for the second roundup to cull the herd.

Richard Vanecko is small fish worthy of a 20 year prison sentence. Are there still vacancies at Tamms?

Trust me. It works. Sweet dreams are made of this.

It's a horrible tragedy that this young man died something that should never of happened but understand no one could ID Vanecko as the person who punched the victim. Several lineups were done and he wasn't picked out by people who were there on the scene. Vanecko doesn't have to give a statement if he chooses not to. He won't confess so explain to me with no witnesses and no statements and no evidence how can he be convicted. Hopefully the majority of people who read the blog know that the Chicago Police DO NOT and CAN NOT charge people with felonies as the Cook County States Attorney's Felony Review has to approve charges. CPD can override some cases but 99.9% of over ride cases get dropped at pre-lim hearings. Enough of the bashing of the Detectives as I was there and the lead detective wanted him charged but was told by felony review " sorry you have no ID, find someone who saw the punch or get a statement". no ID no statement no charge 99.9% of the time and every officer reading this knows it.

OFF TOPIC: In Mt. Greenwood............ Can someone please explain to me why at 1110am there was a girl driving down the 3800 w. 1110th place in her PERSONAL vehicle (black Jeep) writing parking tickets....

---Its the ticket writers not the police. I saw a woman on a hand held radio one morning in her car stop by my recently purchesed vehicle looking at the front window and then the rear plate. I watched her from the yard as she talked into the radio and when she saw me exit my gate she drove off. See, I had purchased my car a few days earlier from carmax and was able to get my new plates on the spot. I sold them my old one and had to transfer my city sticker which I had thirty days to do. I would have explained this to her but she drove away, never got out of her car and never hung a ticket on the my car. Imagine my surprise when I got a ticket in the mail a freaking MONTH AND A HALF later written on that date for NO CITY STICKER. I sent in my paperwork and the ticket was tossed but that is one of their sneaky tactics. Also a guy on a bike rides around Mt. Greenwood writing tickets.

12/03/2012 08:35:00 PM

Oh yeah sure like we're supposed to believe the Det.'s "wanted him charged." I've seen Det.'s avoid charging people a lot less important than this guy. It's very easy to make a line-up not work out. He's a fucking Daley! No boss would let him get charged. Once again, HE'S A DALEY FAMILY MEMBER! The Det.'s and ASA would never charge him. It sure sounds like the real pros has a solid case and know the obvious. COVER UP!

12/03/2012 04:03:00 PM

You are an ass. There was no reason for a cover up when the drunk witnesses gave conflicting stories, couldn't describe the offender, and later could not ID the supposed offender.
If there was a cover up, who profited? No one involved was ever promoted. No one suddenly started driving a Lexus, no one when on a European vacation or bought a ranch in Aspen. As they say: Show me the money. No one can because it just didn't happen.
There never is any reason to submarine a case that is crap from the get go.

12/03/2012 06:26:00 PM

You must not be on the job or if so not very long or you would know that not one boss would allow him to get charged even if was on video tape. The tape would be destroyed, statments changed, or like you said witnesses suddenly not being able to ID. No one got paid to cover it up, it's just done because it's a Daley. Come one man use your head. It's a Daley.

For those of you talking about the lineups one of the females who with Vanecko at the time of the incident admitted he threw the punch.

Look it up.

Said female is a member of one of the richer construction tycoon families in town. Public construction. Hint hint.

Initially she denied knowing the "puncher" but at some point within a week or so afterward her Irish Catholic conscious got to her. Some of us actually have them.

Now if anyone else had done that I suspect our glorious States Attorney would have charged them with "obstruction".

Didn't the detectives initially assigned this case go on vacation shortly afterward? Didn't one of the detectives make a note about Vanecko's mom being the sister of Shortshanks?

Did any of those detectives end up retiring from CPD and end up working for the States Attorneys office?

Look it up assholes.

Da Nile aint just a River in Egypt.

This stinks of a coverup from day one.

Oh, did I forget to mention former CPD exempt Hiram Grau?

After he went over to the ISP didn't he refuse to examine the Vanecko case?

Lori Lightfoot will be the next US attorney for northern district.

Vanecko will be found not guilty on the most serious charges and found guilty on some minor charge so the people will think at least he has to do 6 months which will really be 3 months probation.

so in the end the media will say justice was served and lori lightfoot will hang a copper or two when somebody asks hay what you doin lately in dat new job of yours lori !

If she actually gets the nod, it would be a travesty. She has far too many connections to Daley and he appointed her to head OPS. But of course this is Chicago, Obama is the President, and Durbin was involved in submitting the final four names for consideration. Go Figure.

OFF TOPIC: In Mt. Greenwood............ Can someone please explain to me why at 1110am there was a girl driving down the 3800 w. 1110th place in her PERSONAL vehicle (black Jeep) writing parking tickets....

---Its the ticket writers not the police.---------

Mouth breathers wear vests in yellow that say Revenue or Finance. Ser Co wears vests that say either Serco or Parking Enforcement.

Plain clothes in a non-M plate equals City Clerk investigators.

Please give more info on the day this happened...1110 am doesn't mean much by itself. Was it a week day or a Saturday or a Sunday?

Most of the Airmail tickets come from serco these days though. While revenue is annoying, they at least put the damn ticket on the vehicle before they vanish. And remember...when the 1st of the month is a Saturday or Sunday...the contractors are usually out in force since revenue isn't working and PO's have better things to do.

If the case was manipulated by Cline, Malloy and the whiteshirts in general, it was done is such a way as that their fingerprints are no where to be found.

A sergeant or Lt. makes a "suggestion" as to what to put in the report. And as D, you know that you are very small fish swimming upstream against a very power current.

By criticizing the police investigation, they are laying the defense strategy: that the investigation is not good enough to convict.

We (CPD members on this site) are siding with the Northwestern U McArthur Justice Center and against your own. Koschman was a little drunken asshole who ran into Vanecko a big drunken asshole. At least 5 times a year in this city (more?) dicks handle cases similar where drunk vs drunk in a fight result in a death. This was a one punch fight and the little guy was knocked down by the big guy. The little guy had a blood alcohol content around 20%. He broke ay from his friend's grasp and charged Vanecko. One punch, fight over.
We are hanging our own here. After Area 3 did a mediocre at best investigation two outstanding detectives from Area 5 (men who are above reproach) re investigated the case and same to the same conclusion. This is not the type of case that is ever prosecuted in Cook County.
We as police officers should be able to cut through the media hype. I HATE Daley and all the bullshit he has wrought upon us but don't be blinded by your hate. the media drove this case. We are made out to be evil here not Vanecko.
Quit siding with he media against your own.

Staples worked in the old Area 4 detective division under Steve Peterson. They bumped heads constantly because Staples always wanted to do the right thing by the guys as opposed to Peterson who was always a Department man. In any case, Peterson grew to respect Staples and the rest is history. She was in a D unit as a lieutenant and then made DC of 017. She certainly knows her shit, is fair to the people she works with and doesn't take any of this too seriously. The 012 district won the lottery getting Staples.

And why isn't Former Mayor Daley being indicted Federally? What are these Feds doing? It must be nice to have nights and weekends off. Plus all holidays off. What a waste of tax payers dollars.

So that was it, huh?

I look at the Vanecko pic, the hair sort of burned off at age 29, the fat nasty face, the bulk, and something I've seen in my travels says "steroids." Gives 'em an explosive temper to go with the added mass.

You see them around health food stores, dragging out huge five-gallon cans of Ultimate Blast Supplement and visibly hoping that someone might be having a quiet conversation out in the parking lot so they can yell "SHUT UP!" at complete strangers and then make a great show of checking their car for a scratch, casting accusing looks.

It's a type. Then you fill it with beer on top of all that. Not good.

There never is any reason to submarine a case that is crap from the get go.

I for one am so sick of your undercover PR work for the mayor and his Gambinos here on SCC and now from you another gag me post denying Daley and Anita's clean up crew?

Having personally been on the receiving end of a cover up by Chris Kennedy who "lost" a video, and who altered the evidence he did allow into court, your crap case theory is crapola. evidence and testimony get altered/changed/bought out and paid for at the drop of a hat in this city. just like you and your phony ad nauseum diatribe here on SCC. Just fucking go away beyotch.

Hey putz, I didn't write this, but I can tell you there was no conspiracy here, just incompetence on the part of the ASA's office. No one in the D unit (including myself) is willing to risk their job or pension on a coverup. You are as gullible as the OJ jury that believed that the police framed OJ. Get real! Yes, bosses do occasionally try to cover up stuff if they think they can get away with it, but not when so many people are involved. In this case everyone was afraid to do so because it was a high profile media worthy case. You know people don't have the balls, especially most bosses these days, to go out on a limb and invite lawsuits or investigations. Why the hell would they do so at the end of their careers and risk it all?

The only (other) thing that bothers me about this case is that Koschmans mom stated openly during a press conference that she, ...'did NOT want to see Vanecko go to jail' she only wanted to clear her son's name.
Mother, Vanecko should not be forgiven for his actions during and after this case.
He should held accountable for his actions here on earth and thereafter.

Yeah, I heard this but cannot blame her. It's OK. She is a normal person with kindly impulses; it is the job to protect such people from the genuinely no-good and black-hearted. It's not like the Daley Crime Family ever spent two cents worth of time worrying about her or her son.

Well, this certainly sounds good and might be true. But, lets wait for the special grand jury report on the conduct of the police investigtions before we make any judgements. If the detectives or their supervisors covered up then they should be indicted. Let the chips fall.
