18 Years for Fatal Punch

  • DULUTH, Minn. - A man convicted of fatally punching a man outside a bar in St. Louis County has been sentenced to a maximum 18 years in prison.

Paul Welle knocked Dale Anderson onto a concrete slab outside the Powerhouse Bar in Proctor last November. Testimony at trial indicated Anderson was trying to protect a woman from Welle's unwanted advances.

A jury in September found the 33-year-old Elk River man guilty of second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter. The Duluth News Tribune reports Welle ran from the scene of the crime, then told investigators Anderson attacked him first and that he was defending himself.
Sentencing guidelines aren't nearly as strict here, plus there's the entire corrupt Cook County system working in Venecko's favor. Still, it'd be nice to see him do some time.

If it was truly one punch that circumstance dictated the kid land on his head and end up dead I don't think second degree murder is an appropriate charge. The only reason I want to see Vanecko swing is because of his family and Daly. If the douche bag that Mette smacked had died , it would be the same thing. The lack of prosecution with Vanecko was political. The aggressive prosecution of Mette was political. When the law is applied equally (one punch ending in death) I think we can all agree, happenstance should not be a consideration with respect to charging or sentencing.

If someone dies, someone has to pay, maybe not as severe as a premeditated situation, but certainly those who conspired and were complicit in the charging or investigation or lack thereof, should also pay!

You punch someone they die, jail time. Sorry for your loss of the good life but someone died and it is time to pay for that. 2-5 is not even a good discussion.

I would love to see a venue change, move it down to remote county.
In Cook Co, it would be extreme if Vanecko does 18 days.
CrackerJack CCSA prosecutors will botch the case.
What the defense needs is a heartbreaking Daley Family tradgedy headline to save his ass.
