Death Spiral States

They might as well give you your own dependent to take home with you - maybe they could mow the lawn or do the floors?
  • A writer at Forbes Magazine has identified a phenomenon called the “death spiral states.” Sounds intimidating, right? Fox Business Network’s Melissa Francis broke down what you need to know on America Live today.

The category includes 11 states where private sector workers are outnumbered by people who are dependent on the government. That number would include state workers, and people who are receiving welfare or pension. For example, in California the ratio of “takers versus makers” is bigger than one. If you own a software company that employs 100 people, you’re supporting 139 other people in the state who are on the “takers” list.

Credit worthiness was the second factor worked into this equation. To calculate that, Forbes looked into large debts, uncompetitive business climate, weak home prices and unemployment trends for each state.
And guess who's on the list?

$85 billion in debt, failing businesses, dying tourism, and citizens moving out of state as fast as they are able.

They've politically-corrected the results by including people who WORK for the government and lumping pensioners in with welfare recipients.

I'd be interested in seeing the results without those working and those who have worked (i.e. pensioners).

I'm not making this shit up.

To keep supporting the ever growing list of people entitled by our Democratic rulers they have come up with this brainstorm....

They can't lower the national debt or raise the debt ceiling...

They can't just keep printing paper money because it will cause runaway inflation...

    So what do they propose...

Gold and silver reserves are tightly controlled...

So some genius has proposed to mint a TRILLION DOLLAR PLATNIUM COIN...

Just one of those deposited into the Federal Reserve and the Democrats will be able to write checks for at least a week.

How the hell is Michigan not on that list? Even with Uncle Sam propping up the broken but politically-connected auto companies there's a lot of Detroiters on welfare.

I am one of those economic refugees, except I got the bulk discount by living in both CA and IL before moving to MN where there's actually some jobs. Quite a number of my coworkers came from CA/IL/MI, even with the company's bottom-of-the-barrel benefits there's a line out the door because our recruiters are smart enough to pull people out of states currently circling the drain.

What if you are WalMart and have 1,000 people working for you?

Are those part-time min-wage positions supporting a few thousand so-called takers?

I suggest that the WalMart workers themselves are takers like on the food stamp programs -- therefore the WalMart exec's get a piece of that taking from the rest of us and they have subsidized their bonuses off of the food stamp program that we all pay for.

And the Motorola, and Sears, and CME and all the rest of the corporations that the political apparatus have given tax breaks to are they takers? It's corporate welfare. They're not pulling their own weight. These corporations demand handouts, privileged treatment.

The corps get this special treatment as the politicians pick the winners and the losers while glorifying the results.

Take the GM bailouts, the banker bailouts, the airline bailouts. The backdoor bailouts like "Cash for Clunkers" and the Green energy appliance rebates, etc.. They get enough handouts to last them maybe five years, most of it to fund executive bonuses and then they go back to bankruptcy looking for the next bailout. This is glorified as being competitive, the best and the brightest? What happened to let the free market decide?

There's plenty of takers so let us not just look at the lowest of the earners shall we. The corruption stinks from the top on down with the takers.

    Excellent post SCC!

A road map of where not to go and where not to spend your hard earned money when you retire...

Heh... Illinois is no secret. Many posters on this blog have been saying for years about how the cowardly politicians have run the numbers and set public policy to catering to the takers instead of the makers.

People like the long-legged, hollow-assed Fakir of Fuckery, Governor Jello and Rahm "The North Shore Shit-Ass" Al Ghoul-Ben Schemer are trying awfully hard to sift what's left of the middle class to the bottom.

Bonus points if they can prevent you from exercising the ultimate freedom and responsibility which is self defense.

The former ultimate freedom and responsibility (the ballot) has been wholly co-opted and compromised.

History abounds with object lessons regarding those who have done what these incompetents ARE doing.

It's a rough and bumpy ride being designated as a "loser" in the game of life by these willfully ignorant fucks.

It's rougher and bumpier still when good people who worked their entire lives have no means of fighting back when the takers start coming after the makers in earnest.

In particular to what's happening in Chicago and Illinois?

Why does it mean so much to the criminal-political media cabal to destroy CPD, CFD and (ugh!) CTU?

Why is it so important to the media and the Gold Coast/North Shore mover & shaker, big money democommie-crat contributing, phony charity money laundering, kick-back artist friends of Daley Inc. and Rahm & Co., to bust out teachers, first responders and their families?

Heh... FWIW... These are some of the people who benefitted handsomely from the 20+ years of financial fuckery by Daley Inc. in which an estimated $12 to $15 Billion of Chicago tax-payer treasure went *poof.*

The current political-media war against first responders and teachers is an elaborate artifice.

All Rahm & Co. had to do was fan the scapegoat flames with an assist from the media and VOILA! The sad and sorry current state of affairs in this city.

This shit is classic Leninist/Trotskyite "go after the people who don't buy into our bullshit and might fight back."

Heh... No secrets there. Rahm said it himself that he was going to fuck up CPD and CFD for "not supporting" him in his run for mayor.

    Death Spiral Indeed SCC...

Chicago and Illinois are destroyed beyond hope, salvage or repair.

Everything else is political kabuki theater, jaw-jacking and posturing trying to burn through as much tax-payer money as possible to make it look like "something" is being done.

The politicians that are "reforming" (stealing) our pensions are they "takers or makers"

The pension money that was suppose to be deposited into our pension accounts but instead went to politically clouted companies via no-bid contracts, are they makers or takers?

This entire city, state and nation is one big financial fraud.

Follow the parking meter money for example. The Fed hands out a tax break for public parking and in Chicago and that money goes to a group of investors in Abu Dhabi who rapes us at the rate of $6.5/hour. The politicians ARE PROUD TO DO THIS AS A SERVICE TO YOU. That money is not trickling down here back into our infrastructure. One has to wonder if this arrangement is the 21st century-like version of the Swiss bank account for the clouted ones used to shelter ill gotten proceeds.

Paying $6.50/hr is bad enough but to have the US federal government to take from our tax revenue resources additional money for tax incentives is ridiculous. They sell it as helping the middle class by making your parking more affordable via a tax deduction but ask yourself who is ending up with the money! Are they takers or makers with that parking meter money?

    What's wrong with these numbers?

SPRINGFIELD — The number of people locked up in Illinois prisons has hit an all-time high while Gov. Pat Quinn battles with state employees over closing several correctional facilities.

State records analyzed by The Associated Press show the population hit 49,154 over the weekend. That’s 19 inmates more than the Corrections Department’s previous record, set on Oct. 6, 2011.

The department did not immediately comment Monday.

The prisons were designed to hold 33,700 people. Last spring corrections officials declared a downward trend in prison numbers and predicted an overall average for the year of less than 46,000.

Quinn wants to close five correctional centers — a loss of 1,700 more beds — to save money in a budget crisis. A lawsuit by a state employees’ union has stalled that.

    http://www.pantagraph.com/news/state-and-regional/illinois/illinois-prison-population-at-all-time-high/article_8cdc32d4-00f6-11e2-8121-0019bb2963f4.html

    ================================

From Oct 2011 to Sept 2012 Illinois prison population only grew by just 19 inmates? Am I reading that right?

Nevertheless, consider the money being spent. It's been said that it costs about $50,000 a year to incarcerate someone in Illinois.

Well, we're looking at $2.5 billion being spent to house 50,000 inmates.

Imagine if we prosecuted all the mutts doing the shootings and then made truth in sentencing a reality.

We can't afford it. The mutts know it.

Look we had 6.0739 million people employed in Nov 1998. In Nov 2012 we had 6.0609 million.

    https://www.google.com/publicdata/explore?ds=z1ebjpgk2654c1_&met_y=unemployment_rate&idim=state:ST170000&fdim_y=seasonality:S&dl=en&hl=en&q=illinois%20unemployed#!ctype=l&strail=false&bcs=d&nselm=h&met_y=employed&fdim_y=seasonality:S&scale_y=lin&ind_y=false&rdim=country&idim=state:ST170000&ifdim=country&hl=en_US&dl=en&ind=false

In spite of all the so-called jobs being created in Illinois there are not any more workers then there where 14 years ago here. What happened to all the new entrants to the workforce? All the grads? The illegal immigrants coming to do the jobs Chicagoan's do not want to do? Where? Where are they?

So we're talking $412.47 per employee goes to funding the prison if the cost was spread equally which we know that you cannot do. A WalMart worker-like job doesn't earn enough.

A must read. They'll try to dazzle you with the numbers on this one..

Cook County, Illinois Treasurer Warns U.S. Homeowners And Retirees Of Local Debt Hazards

    ***

    Maria Pappas:

[...]..In May, 2012, the collective debt reported by the local primary taxing agencies in Cook County was more than $140 billion! To put that in context, the total debt-per-household in the City of Chicago was $87,720, and $35,774 in the suburbs. Since local governments cannot print money, they rely on property taxes as their main revenue source to operate.

Homeowners might be able to give their homes to their children, but that future generation won’t be able to afford to keep them because of the property taxes, which have doubled over a 10-year period.

(( if taxes doubled over ten years that would be an average increase of 7% per year over that period. Have you gotten a 7% raise each year over the last ten years?

Now watch how this Forbes piece demonizes the public workers.... ))

High salaries given to local government workers greatly contribute to the strain on pension funds when employees retire from service. According to the data supplied by taxing districts, the most common average salary increase is 4.0 percent.

In Cook County, salaries have increased by as much as 90 percent since 1998 due to cost-of-living adjustments and longevity bonuses. For example, if your salary was $24,215 in 1998, you’d make $45,914 in 2013. Governments must look at personnel costs, given that 70 to 80 percent of all government expenses are personnel-related.

((our taxes doubled by going up 7% for last ten years and public workers wages went up by 4%. Then we have to shift the time period out to 14 years to claim the public workers got a 90% increase in pay to make it look like they're comparing apples to apples. In other words it took ten years for taxes to double but 14 years for wages to increase by 90% Then there's this...))

Even though market values of housing have declined, taxing districts nevertheless demand the same amount, or even more to fund operations. Across Cook County, all property taxes collections rose 48 percent from 2000 to 2010, twice the rate of inflation during that period. Residential property taxes have increased by as much as 172 percent during that time.

    (( do you get that?

Notice how we shifted the time frames from the beginning of this story?

First we are comparing the taxes over a ten year period 2000~2010 with wages over a 14 year period 1998~2013.

    That's not apples to apples.

They told us taxes doubled in ten years and wages went up 90% BUT it took over 14 years for wages to get there. We are falling behind with more disposable income going to taxes.

Then we compare Residential property taxes that you and I pay and say they are up 172% over 2000~2010 but wait! In the beginning of this story they told us taxes doubled. That's 200% not 172%

Anyways see what they did here...when you average in the corporate property tax breaks in with our 172% tax increases we can claim it's not so bad. What are you whining about. OVERALL taxes only went up by 48% stop your whining we are all in this together. haha.

Forget that your home price declined and therefore the tax rate based upon the value of your property is ENORMOUS.

Also we go on... that the 7%/yr property tax increases are rising twice as fast as inflation (3.5%).

Remember the workers are getting on avg. a 4%/yr income increase. But we're told that's TOO MUCH. They are not even keeping pace with inflation!

Meanwhile Rahm raises public transportation 15% IN ONE YEAR. Parking 16% IN ONE YEAR..etc..

and the new money. It's going to fund $55 million dollar parks and things no-one is asking for or wants.

    ****

But thats ok,They are understandable, they just go out and buy more. Outside of Crook County.

If you listen to Scum Times, Fibune and Pat Quinn this is all our faults. How dare we expect to collect the meager pension we signed up for, and were promised, many years ago? Someone's got to pay for the political malfeasance and it sure as Hell won't be the politicians paying.

To solve all our money problems simply drug test everyone who receives money from the government. We work for a living and we get drug tested. Certainly those who do nothing and get paid for it should be subject to drug tests. Why are we giving free money to drug addicts and criminals? You want welfare then you get a drug test every year, if you fail or get convicted with a felony then guess what. You work for a living like everyone else. I know, I know, I can already see the little person saying "da plane, da plane! (you gotta be an old fart to understand that reference)

We miss the sights and sounds of THING ACTUALLY BEING MADE here in Chicago.

    *BAM! Clang! Whirrrrr! WHAM!*

Heavy loaded company trucks kicking ass all day long up and down Halsted, Ashland, Damen, (before the 39th to 47th overpass was taken down) Western and Cicero.

Bus routes every half mile on the grid.

Trolley buses that ran on the overhead electric...

Plenty of work if you wanted to work...

My hubby and I are seriously thinking of moving out of IL.. can't afford to pay the taxes anymore.. people have to get under the table jobs to make up the lost tax dollars sucked out of them by the state.. and with Obama, Pelosi and REID looking to take whatever we buy it's becoming a nightmare.. we are helping out as many as we can since many (and that includes those who work for Walmart) make to much to get any help but not enough to pay the bills however IF your ILLEGAL you can get anything no questions asked.. including a drivers license .. by next year all the delivery trucks will be driven by ILLEGALS.. and all the policing will be done by the gang bangers that RAHM pays ..

It doesn't take an economic genius to figure out that if you have more Takers in the system rather than the Contributors, there is going to be a negative balance. The contributors will soon tire of the system and move elsewhere, thus an increase in the red. Politicians are too dumb to realize this and sincerely lack common sense. Plus too many are self-serving in more ways than one

Alaska or Hawaii. New Mexico or Texas. Illinois or Indiana.

DemocRAT or Republican. See a trend here?

    1/10/2013 12:08:00 AM

So where does Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, Kentucky and Maine fit in? They're sure not democrat.

    1/10/2013 07:57:00 AM

They're all, with the exception of Maine, in the top half of welfare recipients in the states and US territories. Kentucky has more registered democrats than Republicans. Maine is a democratic state.

You mean like that McChrystal idiot who wants to take your guns so only the military can have them to use against you when the communist tyrant tells him to?

No, my friend. You need an American patriot to stand with other American patriots AGAINST these people, just as our Founding Fathers did against the greatest military power on earth at the time.

In short, grow some balls and stop being a follower.
