Discrepancy

  • In 2012, 532 people were murdered in the city of Chicago, according to statistics compiled by the Crime in Chicago website. The number of people murdered the year before was 441, meaning in the city of Chicago, murders have increased by 91 from 2011 to 2012.

The Chicago Police Department was not available to confirm these numbers today, which is New Year's Day.

The website also claims that, through December 25, 2012, there 2,670 people were shot in Chicago last year. That's also an increase from the year before, when 2,217 people were shot in Chicago that year.
That 532 seems higher than the "official" number, meaning someone is counting homicides that the CPD doesn't.  Are the missing numbers all death investigations?

The "Crime in Chicago" website can be located here by the way.

its not that hard to figure out SCC, what are the fatal police shootings being counted as?? what are the fatal traffic crashes being counted as that are charged as 1st Degrees.

I believe it. Between death investigations and delayed deaths, that number seems right on target. What seems even more accurate is the number of shootings. It seems like every day there were at least 8-10 shootings all over the city. How 9.5 and McSupe can say shootings were down and overall crime is down is beyond belief. What's worse is the media perpetuating this lie and the public believing it.

Hmmmmmm......How about all the Agg Batt's that didn't pull through and made it to the ME's Office a week or two or a month or two after the shooting/report completed. Im sure they went back and reclassified all them to Homicides. Haaaaa, Right!!!

Laughed out loud about "City of Chicago pulls rabbit in and out of ass about 500th Homicide"

Between Rahm al Ghoul, McHamHead and the media? We extend our sympathy to the poor rabbit.

    Now you see him...
    Now you don't...

It's gonna be a tough go to wash THAT out...

    Fuckery with numbers?
    532 for 2012?

Claimed 506 for 2012 to stay under the recent (2008) high of 512 to make it "look like" Rahm al Ghoul & McHamHead's so called "strategies" were somehow effective?

Just more evidence that these two have wholly managed to outsmart themselves into a corner trying to outsmart "those dumb blueshirts" of CPD.

The "smartest" mayor in the world who harbors serious presidential intent. ("I fixed the budget mess in Chicago no matter how many people I had to hurt to do it")

That fast and greasy, New Yuck law enforcement gypsy who vowed to be the next Sir Robert Peel by re-inventing Policing and rubbing it against a cock-eyed business model only HE has any clue about.

We've asked around... Repeatedly... the answer has been universally the same. NO GOOD comes of trying to apply business principles to something as bloody, messy and unpredictable as POLICING. Unless you're trying to destroy the very concept of Policing itself and reboot it into something that makes sense only to the liberal lunatic with an agenda.

*Fuck you coppers and your families and friends... You didn't support me anyways.*

    Hmmm... Entirely plausible.

Chicago is getting to look like an old west move. Population going down, murder rate up! Everyone fleeing the city for safety eles where, and fleeing the State for that matter. Downtown will soon look like a deserted street with no cars, highest cost to park a car in the continent!

It's time to bring in a new mayor and superintendent before we are all dammed !!!

The new dicks in training are being schooled in how to downgrade and reclassify crimes. This is simply more of McFailures reliance on a clearly flawed and broken Compstat system.
The media needs to take the bull by the horns and hold Rahmbo and McFailure's feet to the fire on the crime increases, department understaffing etc.

I clicked on the "Jefferson Park" tab - they listed a car striking a pedestrian

the driver was ticketed, so I doubt we counted that as a murder

I have an issue with Crime in Chicago's count. They say 11 in Bridgeport but reading the data they cite, I only count 7. While there are 11 articles cited, 1 of them was another article of the same homicide and 2 were robberies (without deaths) and 1 was a shooting that didn't indicate a death. I am confused.

if you dont talk about it, crime means nothing. the news media is told that by rahm. if the public accepts these conditions, let the good times roll. as long as the pols and their own are protected, who cares? but they want to take our guns from us.

I believe that this website is counting reckless homicide and justifiable homicide. Those should not be in the toal. However, I don't believe the 506 number either. I believe that with a few "known" homicides that were not reclassified by the end of the year that the actually number is about 510. No matter the actual total count, one thing is true. This guy hasn't told the truth since he took over 2 years ago.

Population is going up where it matters: downtown, near west side, wicker park, near south side, anywhere surrounding the immediate area of downtown.

The number of people in the hood is shrinking. Look at a 2010 census map...

The city does not count homicides (even though our ignorant leaders say we do).

    The city counts murders.

Fatal police shootings are not murders. Accidental shootings are not murders. Reckless homicides are not murders.

However, according to FBI requirements, citizen self-defense fatalities should be reported as second degree murder even if charges are not filed. The city routinely skips this requirement.

No it won't, the surrounding downtown communities are thriving. Anything west of the river will be up for grabs, that includes Mt.Greenwood& Edison Park.

Well Ive heard rumors of a new classification .... falling debris.Thats when a stray shot just hits blocks away and not the intended victim.... like space debris.....maybe it'll fly and then they can jump around and cut the homicide rate by 25%..... hey not far fetched from a guy who closes the beaches due to "heat".

The new Rahmulan math is on display beginning with our districts. You now can count from 12 to 14 and from 22 to 24. If you can skip a couple of districts, you can surely skip a couple of homicides. I wonder if I can use Rahmulan math when I send in my taxes?

Of course all the missing numbers are Death Investigations.

If the Death isn't immediately ruled "Natural Causes" or "Suicide" it must be of a Suspicious nature and investigated as a Potential Homicide until closed.

Even a "Death by Mis-Adventure" is closed as something other than a Homicide if the investigation rules it such.

McDrunky and 9.5 couldn't keep the fix in.
