#4 Most Miserable

  • Two cities on our list, Chicago (No. 4) and New York (No. 10) may surprise readers, though they’ve been here before. Both offer a myriad of opportunities and positives as the homes of financial centers, world-class culture, leading universities, sports teams galore and high-end restaurants. But it isn’t easy living in either city, particularly if you don’t earn a lot of money (even if you do it can be tough).

Chicago residents must endure long commutes (31 minutes on average), plummeting home prices (37% the past five years), brutal winters and high foreclosure rates (3.3% of homes in 2012 says RealtyTrac). Many residents are giving up on the Windy City with a net migration out of the city of 107,000 people the past five years, according to Moody’s Analytics.
Detroit, Flint, Rockford, Chicago.  Gary was #19.

...and It is getting worse.

Chicago residents will endure even longer commutes once all the bicycles paths and speed zone trap cameras are in.

The CTA fares are up and I'll bet the analysis in this piece was prior to that.

The trains and buses are getting like the ones you see in places like India where people will soon be hanging on the outside holding on thru the open windows and riding on the roofs due to the overcrowding.

Gasoline prices to $5/gal by the end of next month.

The State can't sell it's bonds and we're nearing a global bond market collapse from all the manipulation in the markets. We've seen the dot.com bubble in 2000 and the real estate bubble in 2007 burst. Now we're on the edge of the bond market bubble.

To make matters worse rumor has it that some of the pension fund managers for Illinois (like the teachers retirement pension) have put billions of their dollars into junk bonds -- making that Las Vegas style bet to recoup all the prior losses -- in the hopes to hit it big so that the State can return to skipping payments because...OH look the investments are paying off now. We don't have to make a contribution anymore..

There will be hell to pay when the bond market collapses. Today, Friday, the UK's debt just got downgraded and that may be the first shoe to drop IDK.

Illinois money has to be getting even tighter. What happened to that $500 million bond offer that the State pulled back on? The need for that money didn't just go away and the market is getting worse.

The system is busted.

keep on taxes the working citizens and blaming it on the city workers and services but not the politicians stealing with their sweet heart deals and then buying votes by spending millions on people who abuse the welfare system.

I bet a lot of people will be buying houses in Gary to "move up" to a better neighborhood.

Where are all the Chicago civic groups and corporate CEOs that campaigned for the Olympics being held in Chicago?

They better change their objectives to just cleaning up Chicago and getting rid of this apathetic approach to crime.

Under their "leadership", cooperation, and work with local government, they created this negative shit-hole.

Oh - and can't forget the "amateurs" in Chicago media who stands in silence because they don't want to upset any of the politicians by reporting the truth.

Where are the Champagne parties, guys (and gals)? You should all be celebrating you brought Chicago down (or up?) to #4. Now if we could only beat Flint, Michigan!

Get a committee formed to get right on it. Morons!

The inclusion of 2nd and 3rd tier municipalities is designed to queer the results...

We notice this nonsense whenever national print media gives the Bozo Drum a spin, pulls an, envelope, wipe their asses with it, run it through the Bozo-puter then publish the results...

Egad...

The truth chases these people around like 5th grade boys on the play ground with dog shit on a stick.

Keep it simple...

Re-boot this exercise in fuckery...

Top Ten incorporated municipalities (Uh-uh muthafuckah! Municipalities ONLY! Not "metropolitan areas." Slick ass!) with populations of 2 million.

Bet you Fat Fanny's ass, Chicago clocks in at #1 or #2.

*Snort of Disgust*

#4 Most Miserable?

Heh... "Dey smokin' dat good shit ovah by dere! See?"

I retired and got the fuck out last year. Couldn't be happier. It's nice knowing where I'm at this town won't be spending 55 million on a sign for a park. Life is good.

And in other news:

NBC Washington WRC-TV had reported that the chief of D.C.’s Fire and Emergency Medical Service Department said three emergency responders who flanked Obama during an event about budget sequestration Tuesday may have violated department regulations.

“I didn’t know about it, the deputy mayor didn’t know about it, the mayor didn’t know about it,” D.C. FEMS Chief Kenneth Ellerbe told WRC. “There should be protocol followed anytime one of our employees representing the District of Columbia appears at a public event.”

Emmanuel has chosen a company to implement his school-zone cameras and HE is hoping to generate at least thirty million dollars a year, see SCC told us it was
a money raising scheme.
The sixty-four thousand dollar question is, will they be active twenty-four hours a day or only during the hours that school are in session ? Inquiring minds want to know.

The good old United States will prop-up those U.K. bonds. It's their sworn duty to bail-out foreign countries, any and all.

31 minutes? Where can I find that deal? Since McCloseArea4and Area5 worked his magic, my commute is over and hour on the back end.

What were the supposed benefits of closing Area 4 and Area 5 again? (note: both buildings are still open)
