Extra Pay for Carrying Guns?

  • If passengers are allowed to carry guns on CTA rail lines, train operators should pack weapons — and be paid extra for doing so, the head of the union that represents CTA rail workers said Thursday.

Robert Kelly, president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 308, said he is “totally opposed’’ to any legislation that would allow Illinois residents to carry concealed weapons.

His members don’t want to carry guns, Kelly said, but if the law passes, “[Do] you want a train full of people to carry guns and tell the operator, ‘You’re on your own?”

“You have to make it fair. You’ll have to arm our people,’’ Kelly said.

Years of leaving citizens at the mercy of roving gangs, years of having bus drivers attacked, years of claiming their camera system is second-to-none in recording perpetrators, but doing nothing to apprehend them, years of calling in bus disturbances, then driving off with the perpetrator and in most cases, the victim too. Now they want guns?

Okay, no problem. Train 'em and arm 'em. It's a step in the right direction.

We must compliment Forrest Claypool for his asinine comments though - he is a Machine tool through and through:
  • CTA President Forrest Claypool said Thursday that allowing guns on CTA buses and trains would be “disastrous.’’ Buses can involve “crowded conditions’’ where gun-carriers could be bumped or jostled, causing a weapon to discharge, he said.
Because that happens all the time, right Forrest? Your ignorance becomes you, you moron.

I hate to jump on the "racism" bandwagon because the card has been so played out, but you must point out that this anti-gun stance is very racist.

They don't want black public transportation passengers to be armed because their racist thought process tells them that blacks are violent.

The fact of the matter is that honest black passengers would no longer be victimized by the usual thugs. This frightens democrats for some reason. My suspicion is that they are so in bed with the gangs, that they oppose arming citizens on orders of the thugs paying them off.

That's not true. Just let CTA personnel exercise their right to carry under the CCW law.

This way, would-be offenders won't know if the motorman is carrying or not.

I'm confused. Is there something preventing criminals from carrying guns on public transportation now? Oh, that's right... gun laws.

Isn't that an oxymoron or something... criminals being expected to obey the law?

Yeah...like we see it happen in the 49 other states with carry laws. The public transportation is like the wild-wild west isn't it?

Trigger happy law abiding citizens are going to turn to crime and violence the minute they "strap up"??

Naw, maybe the apple picking mutts will think twice and the CTA will become a much safer place because they don't know who has what in their pockets on that bus.

YES! Pay them more because what do the statistics show in the other 49 states? They show that the country is out of control! They show that shootings occur on public transit systems, like it is the wild, wild west. It shows that the murder rates everywhere else is going up by leaps and bounds!

Oh, wait, I'm sorry. That ISN'T HAPPENING EVERYWHERE ELSE! It is only happening in Illinois, particularly in Chicago, where only criminals are allowed to arm themselves.

Illinois politicians and union leaders are a fucking joke!!!

1. The data from 49 other states should clearly demonstrate the rates at which lawfully carrying citizens engage in some improper / unlawful activity, whether in public places, in vehicles, or on public transportation. I bet it is statistically insignificant, but would love to see it (NRA / ISRA?)
The Dumbocrats are shooting from the hip and hitting the emotions dead on. We need rational facts to fight back with.

2. Illinois, Crook County, Chicago: Our combined statutes, ordinances, etc. create the strictest framework for the purchase, possession, transfer and unlawful use of a firearm in the country. If these laws are followed, even close to the way they were intended, logically we would have one of the lowest rates of uuw in the country.

Unfortunately, the courts (CCSAO and judges) and penal system release too many defendants, either finding no PC at the front end, a ridiculously low plea deal or sol in the middle (if you can actually get charges approved), or early release at the end. How many shooters should have been behind bars at the time of the killing if the math weren't so "fuzzy." Laws that are not enforced create a greater injustice than no laws at all because of the false sense of security they create. How about a real, honest research project to review the true efficacy ( for our alderfools and McChicagogunlawsareweak, that means effectiveness) of our existing laws. (How about it U. Of C. or Northwestern, maybe the rand think tank?) I would say the "Media," but I'm trying to be serious here.

3. Finally, just like the frog in the slowly boiling pot, our constitutional rights are being incrementally eroded. Introduced legislation that allows police to warrantlessly enter and "inspect" a gun owners home, HOME, just because they own a gun, proposed forced confiscation, and other constitutional assaults, all in the name of safety and utopian aspirations. G-d help us in the coming years, they are looking quite bleak.

Oh yes, one more thing. A hearty fuck you to our state senator proposing that all Internet postings must identify the user. It's called the first amendment, please learn about the Constitution, you know, the one you took an oath to uphold, and that really important one that guides the entire country.

All this fear about people "might start packing" to protect themselves shows how immature and totally clueless our politicians are as well as those who are supposed to be organizational leaders. (like the union president)

None of this would happen if an element in society would behave themselves. None of this would have happened if you took some real action to put these thugs in their place.

It has gotten to a point where people are tired of being victims and tired of how politicians and states attorneys looked the other way because they did not want to upset a voting block.

Its important to understand one thing about unions in America ... if you want to form a public union (government union), then you need a law that expressly allows it (we do in Illinois, in Wisconsin I think they took it away)

But private unions (Jewel, DOminicks) are OK unless expressly disallowed by law.

THe CTA union (along with the FOP for that matter) - can be quashed in Illinois by quashing the law that allows the public union.

Point? Don't fuck it up for the rest of us CTA.

You have to understand that someone who is in any type of powerful role in this state, and the head of the CTA is such a person, is used to making statements that are not based on any type of fact or reasonable thought. They are never asked by anyone to back that statement up with some type of fact or research. The fear mongers have been using this tactic for years to raise taxes for one ( we cant cut essential services) and to keep the civilian population unarmed. None of their scenarios have taken place anywhere else in the country or have proven to have legs, but that does not stop them from making these outragious and unproven statements. Of course, the press never asks sensible follow up questions, do they?

I have an idea, lets get rid of "fair" from the dictionary as well as the "-". Those two pieces of our culture are killing this country and has caused more racism than anything else in history.

MLK wanted to considered equal. He never asked to level tre playing field to be "fair". He referred to himself as an American not African-American. People get so confused regarding their nationality and ethnicity. When "we" as a nation stop letting people put us in separate boxes and become one nation, USA will once again prosperous.

As MLK said a few days before being murdered for believing that all races, creeds and gender could live as one people, blacks are on the road to becoming "chumps" to the Demoncrat party.

Forget about guns discharging.

THIS OVERCROWDING ON BUSES AND TRAINS TO SAVE MONEY IS A CLEAR SAFETY HAZARD PERIOD!

What's the fire department regulation on building occupancy and number of people per sq/ft and why don't we have one for the CTA riders!

You have these CTA trains and buses so packed during rush hour that everyone has to inhale to close the damn doors....and for this luxury we have higher fares to pay?! We pay to sit and ride on the bus not stand and be molested by the surrounding strangers.

Anyways, Mr. Claypool, thanks for acknowledging the problem of overcrowding. When a CTA E-2- like disaster strikes on one of your vehicles (and we hope it don't) the courts will admire your comments today.

The Mayor and his ilk do take real action. Thug Life is both

* Government subsidized and protected

and

* Sold commercially as a complete package, distributed worldwide.

The thugs ARE in their place -- which is always right the f__k next to your place. A spite fence won't help, either -- half the city is unusable as it is.

Ask your top "real estate" speculators who work hand in hand with the "social engineers." What the Tribune once tagged "The American Millstone -- America's Permanent Underclass" is used like a Cat D-7 as a land clearance tool.

Decent people in this city have spent their entire lives fleeing from a wave of s__t that rolls over one area after another.

Nice to "changing" to outright slum to cleared to "redeveloped," "rediscovered" and unaffordable, around and around and around.

This is intentional. This is vastly profitable.

Normal people have trouble grasping the One Rule -- their minds do not work along these lines. Here it is --

It doesn't matter whether it's going up or down as long as it's going.

Hey Forrest, I have made many arrests on CTA trains while in civilian clothes with a handgun on my hip. Many of those arrests involved wrestling with bad guys trying to flee. The physical contact involved was a great deal more then a jostle. And guess what? Not once did my weapon or that of my partners discharge.

In fact I have not heard of a single incident of an accidental discharge on a train or bus from being bumped by another passenger. It's not like anyone is carrying flintlocks.

I hope everyone is hearing what I hear. We should not be on buses or trains. Are guns might go off. How about sending a Gold Star for those jobs.

Watch close because they are talking about our guns too.

TV last night -- CPD graduated 53, but CTA has money to hire 700 fools off the street to be "community service 'sistants," "'sist CTA passengers with questions, 'sist the elderly," etc.

We had this joke 20-25 years ago, CETA, Comprehensive Education And Training Act. Take people who were hanging around "L" stops and put them in brown coveralls and pay them to hang around "L" stops. Utterly useless.

It's not racist. These people hate everyone that are pro-gun.

Sure, arm CTA drivers. Then we will be having an epidemic of CTA drivers getting robbed and losing their guns or shot with their own guns.

Doesn't happen in the other 49 states.

Idiot.

We had flintlocks when I came on but I transitioned to percussion caps before I retired.

Right, because it is only police officers who lose and get shot with their own guns. Not bus drvers. Happens to cops but no one else.

Moron.

CTA President Forrest Claypool said Thursday that allowing guns on CTA buses and trains would be “disastrous.’’

The logical response to this notion, which simply CANNOT be refuted is:

The claims from anti-gunners that mayhem will ensue as a result of conceal carry legislation HAS NOT HAPPENED in any of the 49 other states.

Banning guns in Chicago has worked so well throughout in the rest of the city that we ought to try it on the buses too. Yeah right.

How about shithouses? Ban guns in shithouses because you might shoot yourself or someone else when you go in to take a crap when you drop your trousers and the gun hits against the side of the crapper or something.

What stupid idiots are running this city.

The only place where they make a concerted effort to keep guns out is at the airport on airplanes. And that costs billions of $ and requires the hiring of hundreds of thousands of federal employees.

And goofs like Donnie Trotter still try to get away with carrying a gun on board. You know, after they get done with their side job of security guard while carrying that little pimp gun.

By 1982, Jane Byrne disbanded the separate CTA police security force.
