Corrupt Contracts? In Chicago?
- Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced today he will axe the city’s embattled red-light camera vendor when its contract expires in July, citing new investigative findings that the company gave thousands of dollars in free trips to the former city official who oversaw the decade-long program.
What's Rahm going to "axe" them about? Sorry, couldn't help ourselves:
- Emanuel announced the action against Redflex Traffic Systems Inc. following the Chicago Tribune’s report today that the chairman of Redflex’s Australian parent company resigned this week and trading in the company's stock was suspended amid an intensifying investigation into allegations of corruption in its Chicago contract.
Redflex Holdings Ltd. announced the extraordinary actions just days after board members were briefed by an outside legal team hired to examine ties between the company's U.S. subsidiary and the city official who oversaw its contract, a relationship first disclosed in October by the Tribune. The company also revealed for the first time that it is sharing information with law enforcement authorities.
The internal probe found that company executives systematically courted former city transportation official John Bills with thousands of dollars in free trips to the Super Bowl and other sporting events, sources familiar with the investigation told the Tribune. The company also hid the extent of the improper relationship from City Hall after the newspaper's reporting last year forced Redflex to partially reveal its ties to Bills, sources said.
Another Daley legacy contract. And another example of someone not heeding the intensive and thorough Ethics Training that was supposed to end all this corruption years ago. We're shocked, shocked to find out that corruption exists at these levels of government in Chicago. For shame!
By the way, the City Council voted yet again to not pay attention to the Inspector General this week. Surprise!

A corrupt Chicago contract?! That never happens.
So, if you want this company out, why wait till July? Haven't all the kickbacks been paid yet?
Was this in my too LEGIT to QUIT training? I have to sit in an 8 hour class to hear all this bullshit on how to treat gangbangers with respect and then I read this shit. LMFAO
The KING is all shook up.
I'll bet he's gonna axe him to manage the Maggie Daley Park project or something like that.
Guess the city found a new vendor with better Super Bowl suits?
Oops. Court room video.
$5,000 "bye-bye"...Adios...Mam come back..$10,000..."wut" did you just say Eff me "yes" 30 days..
Redflex is a holdover from King Daley's reign. That's why Rahm is so full of righteous indignation. Now he can put his own really honest contractor in it's place. Notice he wasn't quite so upset about his choice for the O'Hare janitorial contract and their mob contacts and failure to file change of ownership papers with the City, albeit a year late. Different rules for different situations? It can't be, because it's for the children.
"........following the Chicago Tribune’s report...." SEE!!!! WE'RE DOING REPORTING STUFF!!! SEE!!! WE'RE
THE REAL DEAL!!! NOTHING GETS PAST US!!!! WE'RE THE EVERYMAN' VOICE!!!! Go fuck yourselves you tired windbags. Oooo. What's that? I think tiny dancer 9.5 just whistled. Hurry along now!
What's the problem?they were just paying the monthly "Bills"....
Why the decent people left in this city don't just revolt openly at this point is beyond me. There would be support from the police.
Then again, that's what the government already counted on. Just check out the FEMA study that lists cops supporting a takeover of corrupt legislatures. Sad times for the Good Ole USA. Sad times indeed.
Actually he is a Madigan man
$300 million dollars in red light revenue, per year?
What's the amount of typical red light fine? $100?
That's about 3,000,000 $100 fines in a city of 2.7 million people.
That seems like a statistically high number of red light violations per capita.
I've been thru a few lights with dangerously short green to red intervals. I smell it's by design.
I'd like to see the data on traffic accidents at red light camera intersections on bad weather days.
-Not a cop
Correction....
I mis-read the article. $300 mil in revenue over the length of the contract.
If i see one more of these fucking stories in the paper why do they print it because certain people keep getting away with it.
We better all take the on line ethics test again. Funny how the city makes us all take the silly test over and over while it's city leaders that are always violating it.
As a former NY guy, I ask myself why the public talks so highly about Daley?? Don't get it. Seems he was
corrupt, stupid and incompetent. Great combo to lead
Chi to the brink. And this city and state are on the brink
like no other state in our nation. Broke. And remember that only bad guys carry guns in IL unlike other states where good citizens can legally defend themselves.
MS
and we have to fill out that stupid and insulting "Bored of Ethics Statement every year! I am bored of their ethics...or lack thereof!
What about the ties from daly's parking meter fiasco! the company and the law firm???????? all the ties of king himself and friends that work for these companies and firms???? but that is ethical!
Vanecko Red Light Camera Services to the rescue!
Nothing is gonna ever change look @ the UNO Charter schools and the Public Building Comm. they r more compromised than they ever were and Daley is not in control.
We shouldn't have to pay for the camera violations seeing that the contract was done under duress.Pay back all the money u took in violations.
Let me guess. All democrats.
Hey, I'm Just Sayin, said...

That's when the contract ends. He now has time to look for a new vendor.
Ask tiny about the letter from senator tom cruz
the one about threatening banks about doing business with firearm companies. www.mrconservretive.org said Texas's bank's would do business ina heartbeat. ( tiny & potatohead can't understand that over 4,000 leave the state a month and texas has a 1000 a day moving in
Two points to consider here: 1. Can anyone walk in this sewer of a city and not get shit on their boots? 2. Once again, it was the Media that put this "clean-up" into action and one has to ask "where were all the internal investigations of this matter?" Tax Payers are paying millions of dollars for the Inspector General and other protections agains this sort of corruption, yet once again it takes an outside source to expose "Chicago Values." Were it not for the Media and the Feds, we would still have Daley in office, Blago as Governor and JJJ as a congressman. (All Democrats)
The only hope for Chicago is to reduce the city counsel in size. I wonder how that could be done? I am not knowledgable in municipal law. I wish someone who is would get this started, if possible.
So what's going to happen to the corrupt city official? no mention of that? probably will get promoted . . .
r u for serious dawg?! a fuckin' corrupt chicago politician?!
it's alright, cause we all know that speed light camera contract will be on the up and up. And I am sure the winning bidder of that contract is just an offshoot company of Redflix.
what's the inspector think about 50 aldercreatures ?
We are wondering when the feds are comming down on Airport Cmmsr Andelino, her husband was involved in that deal and she was the front person for Daleyand now Rham.
Just look at the crooked janitorial contract with an out-fit connected company.
Of course, everything at the airport is legit, just ask Madigan
C'mon Lisa, go get Ritchie. He's weak and you can put a feather in your cap.
Kickbacks kickbacks kickbacks, commie feds do nothin..
Business as usual.
Unless he's doing away with the damn red-light cameras altogether I'd have to say this is just a case of switching to a vendor that offers better kickbacks.
Is this what Rahm means by transparency?
Another daley scandal, I suppose they will give him a statue in Grant park for this one. Once again fema is right....CPD and many other law enforcement, military and first responders beleive in the Constitution, Bill of Rights etc. We took an oath, we are OATHKEEPERS.We are not cut from the same paper that politicians are!
I thought they were also for the children?
Don't sound like the values I was raised with?
Rahm got his $18M for working 18 mos.
he's legit now
Just look at the crooked janitorial contract with an out-fit connected company
I work at ohare i this new company has to be the worst i have seen after the 3 different ones in the last 10 yrs. They coudn t find a dirty bathroom if the tried. Scrubs was also a connected company but they cleaned the bathrooms every 2 hrs.Even the city janitors were better then UNITED..and they were terrible
O.T. Talk about a city deal that may cost someone their life. I heard that the recruits in the academy just got their vests but the women got men vests. So, they had to be sent back because they didn't fit. The recruits will be graduating without vest and were told that they will be assigned a desk job until the vest comes in. Desk duty in the dist. is so, so, safe. So who is getting the kick back on that contract?? hmmmmm
"Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced today he will axe the city’s embattled red-light camera vendor when its contract expires in July, citing new investigative findings that the company gave thousands of dollars in free trips to the former city official who oversaw the decade-long program."
BFD. What crooked friend/relative will get the next contract and do the exact same things that Redflex did?
So odd to hear the words "Chicago" and "corrupt" in the same breath.
rb
"I've been thru a few lights with dangerously short green to red intervals. I smell it's by design."
It is, but there are federal guidelines that cover traffic light delay times.
Supposedly Chicago adjusted these times so that they're in compliance with those guidelines, but just inside those guidelines.
The only hope for Chicago is to reduce the city counsel in size. I wonder how that could be done? I am not knowledgable in municipal law. I wish someone who is would get this started, if possible.
While not the only hope, certainly a great start.
I think it's rooted in state law.
"So what's going to happen to the corrupt city official? no mention of that? probably will get promoted . . ."
He'll be in charge of obtaining the next red light contract.
rb
of course this way Rahm can now givethat contract to one of his cronies, instead of Daley's.
They probably were not paying or paying on time....the white collar way of breaking legs...."your cut off"
