Crime Counting Website Shut Down
EveryBlock.com is no more. From the website:

It’s no secret that the news industry is in the midst of a massive change. Within the world of neighborhood news there’s an exciting pace of innovation yet increasing challenges to building a profitable business. Though EveryBlock has been able to build an engaged community over the years, we’re faced with the decision to wrap things up.
Of course, having a website that was mostly independent of the mainstream media that actually reported neighborhood crime in near-real-time isn't going to garner a lot of support from the powers that be. It's also one less source of crime data, so McCompStat will be happy they're gone.

How can anybody believe the City, ie Rahm & Garry, didn't have anything to do with this?

The Inner Party Rolodex has flipped, and everything has already been decided. The billionaire Ricketts family and its anti-police, New York origin "dnainfo" will give us our information. Repeat one story a dozen times under various headings to flesh out a page. All the radio and TV stations and papers here have been plugging it for months now.

Yeah, founding a company on a 1 mil grant, creating software that is used around the globe on the biggest websites around, having the company be bought by MSNBC, and then leaving to start another company...that really must suck.

I would bet Garry didn't even know this site existed. Too busy looking up the next trim on craigslist. Why would NBC News turn to Rahm for whether or not to keep the site up and running?
Also why would Rahm have anything to do with this site when it was available in dozens of other metro areas?
Everyblock (at least in 24) seemed to be run for and by buffoons. Especially hilarious were the queries by people about 'safe' areas in Rogers park.
I can submit ACTUAL records from a certain beat on the North side that they tried at all costs to suppress.
