Nice Job Dart

Leaping on to Governor Potato Head's Early Release Program, Tom Dart's Jail has begun releasing convicted murderers 50 years ahead of their projected release dates:
  • An Indiana man convicted of murder has been mistakenly released from Cook County Jail, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office and the Indiana Department of Correction.

[...]Robbins had been sentenced to 60 years in prison in 2004 for murder and carrying a handgun without a license. He was serving time in Indiana State Prison when he was brought to Illinois to appear in Cook County Court for a warrant in connection with a 1992 armed violence and narcotics case.

Robbins spent the night in the Cook County Jail Tuesday to attend a court date Wednesday on warrant for a 1992 criminal case, in which he was charged with armed violence--committing a felony while using a gun, said Frank Bilecki, a spokesman for Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart.

After attending the court hearing, Robbins was released at 7 p.m. Wednesday because there was no indication in his jail paperwork that he was ordered to remain in custody, said Bilecki. Robbins exited through Gate 5, the jail's main entrance.
Right out the front door.

The State of Indiana thanks Tom Dart for his enlightened efforts to release their murderers.

Perhaps I mis-heard the news report, but this guy is going to get charged with another felony for leaving the jail.

If the warden does not know the rules, why should the inmates.

If I am in jail and someone opens the door, see ya!

If Tiny Dancer was serious about real gun control this guy should have been made an example. He had a gun! Without a license! Isn't this what a-hole mayor and police superintendent have been going on and on about in the media?

They should have increased his sentence without parole. Actually do something to show you want guns off the street, not all of this smoke and mirrors. Why doesn't anyone see that this city/state wants to disarm its citizens?

If this isn't proof, I don't know what is. I hate this city and state!

A 1992 warrant and he's been in custody since at least 2004 in Indiana so its not like he wasn't hard to find via a computer search. What was so important about that 21yr old warrant that he had to be removed from Indiana prison, escorted across state lines to see a cook county judge? And where were the officer's (Indiana or Cook/Illinois/Chicago)who removed him from prison and brought him to court?
Total clusterfuck, but Im sure someone is going to get promoted!

I seriously doubt that this was a "mistake". Cook County has been, for years now, looking for ways to refuse intake of prisoners when coppers try to drop them off at a Sheriff's intake facility. How many times have you heard them question prisoners incessently about their non-existant or minor medical issues to refuse taking them? I remember one particularly enlightening but typical incident at District 2 at the Skokie courthouse, where I had transported a wayward older chap to County for intake, only to see their mind-games interrogation with him begin: County Sgt: "Are you refusing medical attention?" Detainee: No officer, I ain't refusing a damn thing!" County Sgt: "Then we can't take you."
This poor, bewildered black gentleman, who got caught up in a minor domestic quarrel, was now destined to serve up yet another night in local custody, all because County didn't want any more inmates. This seems to be the rule, not the exception.

Dart is the man who wants the authority under law to enter a persons home without a warrant and confiscate their firearms. This is just the start of what the gun grabbing liberal democrats are planning. Their end goal? Total confiscation of all firearms in America, except for theirs, that is.Uncle Terry would not allow retired officers to use the range at CPD to qualify and refused to honor the federal law. But, I wonder, now that he is retired if he carries concealed under the federal law? Now that is a hypocrite if there ever was one.

Bonehead's [Dart, that is] latest headline grabber is unbelievable. I mean, I wuz the police, but I never wanted the authority to bust into somebody's home without a warrant to search it, much less for something stupid like guns. What the hell's he going to do at my place? If by some quirk of Obama I lose my FOID, is he going to try to take the guns from my wife (who has an FOID)? No chance, Lance.

The other brilliant statement was his yapping about the parolees having their FOID's revoked or suspended. News flash for the lawyer who appears not to know the law, felons are already denied FOIDs, the right to possess firearms, etc. Go kick in their door and grab those FOID cards and see what you get.

Moron. Must be something in the water cooler that Tiny Dancer, et al are drinking from.

I heard Dart is opening up an investigation into the conspiracy to kill Lincoln and that Ed Burke is asking for an expanded additional investigation including a Special Prosecutor into who framed Mrs. O'Leary in 1871 for that torch job and also who wrongly accused Butch O'Hare's father of being a mob lawyer when he worked for Mr Capone.

Asshole back in custody late Friday in Kankakee after being unable to find the residence of former Governor George Ryan so he could seek asylum and some walking around cash from a friendly fellow felon.

And of course, Dart had to do some conniving to grab some glory for his own worthless self out of this cluster fuck:

"Robbins, 44, who was serving a 60-year sentence for murder in Indiana, was apprehended "without incident" at about 10:55 p.m. in the 400 block of Fraser Avenue in Kankakee, according to Frank Bilecki, a spokesman for Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart."

"Bilecki said Dart was on the scene and helped assist in the arrest. "

Sure he did.

All that is missing is a pic showing Dart slapping the cuffs on Robbins ala J. Edgar Hoover.

Unfortunately, the County is still utilizing an archaic paper system that is not backed up or tied together with the courts. When the case was dismissed by the State Attorney, the warrant should have been quashed by the court then logged by the Clerks office then in turn taken out of Leads. Too much bureaucracy to be efficient. I just hope nobody gets hurt by the ex-inmate. As far as the charging of escape, the statute will still apply because the convicted murderer knowingly and willingly walked out of a DOC he knew he should be in, regardless of paperwork issues and errors.
However, to be fair, there are plenty of escapes that are even more embarrassing for us at CPD. He who lives in a glass house...
