And This Matters Why?

  • The Chicago Police Department radically underestimated the number of protesters that marched against the closing of dozens of public schools.

The department and its chief spokesman, Adam Collins, said Wednesday after the march that the number of protesters was between 700 and 900.

But a Chicago Sun-Times analysis Thursday found that number could not possibly be right, counting 2,750 people in a photo of the protest at Daley Plaza.

You have to read a few more paragraphs in to find the teachers union estimated the crowd at 5,500 to 6,000 - a ridiculous number.

Perhaps we should go back to not estimating any numbers at all and leave it to the media to do headcounts rather than engage in some stupid "gotcha" game that we won't ever win.

Matters because someone felt compelled to call S-T to dispute what was reported as if it did matter.

So the old July 3rd estimates of 1,000,000 people at the Taste may have been slightly inflated??!! I can't believe it. What else? No Santa Claus? No Easter Bunny? The beach was closed 'cuz it was too hot?! Say it isn't so.

Speaking of VRI, anyone hear about the new rumor? Its going around that the VRI may be around for a few years..... Start investing some of that money into a good retirement plan boys and girls. We may be able to retire and be able to survive with a couple bucks in the bank.
BTW, anyone looking for a part time job outside the Department (if you even need it now) should find one very easily. Security companies cant find any help from off duty Police, no PO wants to work for them when they can work VRI.

Here's a great one(Professional and been around awhile) you can appy for on-line: www.guardiansecurityinc.com

Be safe out there and dont get let your guard down. Spring and Summer on getting closer everyday.

Sounds like a serious problem with the math program at CPS.

Where was the Investigative Reporting? The Media bought and sold us the CPD handouts as to the number of protestors, no questions asked. But when there is a police involved shooting the Media saturates the area looking for citizen witnesses to say the officer "Jus Executed da man".

Methinks Adam Collins will be looking for a new spot. Don't argue with the press, just give one word answers.

why would the police dept chose to deliberately lie about something like this? it just makes it harder and harder for them to have any credibility about anything when they lie.

I will give the teachers this they did have a great turnout. You could destroy our pensions and the best Police and Fire can do is about 10 people marching. The Mayor knows this that is why he will keep pushing, our unions suck and have no balls, Karen Lewis may be a lot of things and people may not like her but she has stones.

and why does the Suntimes care how many people are peacefully and civilly protesting another of Rahm's stunts? Oh, yeah.

They need to shut down the ghetto and the resourced dedicated to it, but the ghetto Democrats have a perfect right to protest peacefully against the ghetto mayor! F#*&#$ Suntimes.

I am still waiting for "the 700 anonymous and the 1,000 blac bloc from Seattle and Vancouver who are coming here to destroy Chicago in a blac hurricane."

I am not coming out from this Port-A-Pot until I get my ribbon, either. Part of the reason is that my web gear is caught in the back.

It matters because it matters to Rahm.
He wants the numbers to look paltry and unimportant. He does not want it to appear that thousands of CTU members CARE that schools are being closed. He does not want it to appear that he made (gasp!) an UNPOPULAR decision.
He needs to control the information flow, just like he needs to control anything and everything else in his path.

Communistr led unions always lie about the number of participants. That is why the activities are always at rush hour in the Loop. In the future, they should hold these demostrations in Maggie Daley's Park or the Riverwalk Park along beautiful Lake Street..

By issuing those A.N.O.V. tickets to people who have jobs, especially City of Chicago jobs such as teachers the City can threaten those jobs off camera.

The City can squeeze the money or threaten to suspend them. Next time there is a march the Teachers would be not want to go because they might get another ticket.

Our First Amendment is being threatened by our socialist government, just like our Second Amendment.

Keep up the good work SCC.

I think someone just wants to point our that the CPD admin has a history and pattern for lying to the public - like the number of cops on the job, why beaches are closed, downtown wildings, crime stats, etc.

Just saw a flier for Wal-Mart stores, hiring for Off Duty work at $20 an hour! I just laughed!

They better up that rate quick if they want to have cops stand in one of those ghetto stores because it ain't happening at that rate!

I rather work V.R.I. in da hood!

It matters not because it was the police department making the estimate, but because it was the Rahm-picked News Affairs folks putting out the number. And the cops on the scene, who were quoted in some of the Web stories, gave much more accurate numbers. So--maybe it's a don't trust News Affairs lesson.
