We've seen some pimpy moves before, but this one ranks right up there with the pimpiest:
- Theft of a Marked Squad from 011 Lot.
It seems his Majesty Stee georgas was in 011 Saturday evening and walked thru the parking lot and observed a squad with a flat. So he goes in to 011 and ask the Lt where the squad is assigned to. When his Majesty is told it is assigned to 011 he then tells the Lt that since the 011 Dist cant fix the flat he is taking it for the violence reduction fleet.
Did it ever occur to his Majesty georgas that flat tires can occur at anytime? Does he not realize that a car can be turned in by one shift and get a flat before the next crew takes it out?
What a dipshit politacal merit promotee all the way he is. Even in the Academy he told us he was going to be an exempt just like lt Ja told his classmates.
Hey georgas maybe you should get fleet management to buy some damn cars for the voilence reduction fleet.
So officers, make sure your personal car does not have a flat, he might just try and steal it and say that did not need it.
If I ever see you with a flat on the side of the road I am gonna j wave and keep going to lunch.
We've gotten all sorts of e-mails from 011 describing the car situation there with 20 cars down with no pool rides available and officers waiting an hour for cars to come in from previous shifts due to monstrous backlogs. And as the commentator mentioned, many is the time we've come out after getting keys and finding flats that someone else kept filling during the shift that deflated in short order.
Every district is scrimping around for vehicles since the City isn't getting new rides (again, that story about Rahm not paying Ford is looking truer and truer by the day.) Robbing Peter to pay Paul never worked in the past and isn't making this goof any admirers.

The watch commander (back in the "old days", when we had w/c's) made sure we brushed the snow off of all cars in the lot to give the appearance they were all in use.
What will we run out of first, cars or personnel?

Thats not the craziest story to date in the 011th. How about the literal shit storm that happened in the mens locker room. A certain Sgt from 3rd watch, sometimes known as 11-dub, had his locker smeared with doody. I dont know if an angry PO tired of getting sandbagged by that guy pulled a Chris Angel mind freak levitation trick to get his cheeks up high enough to pinch a loaf through the vents but it was pretty remarkable. When dubs came back from RDO's he ordered an ET to collect the doody and a blanket CR was issued. Protect your cornholes out there 4 the DNA swab on the way men. Sure as shit SGT AZ is going to get to the BOTTOM of this!
A shortage of working cars? This is not something new for sure. I have seen this periodically over the past 35 years. It is not right, but it does happen. Take away most of the take home cars and give them to the working police for starters and this will help. How many people, sworn and civilian have take home cars ? They all use the excuse that they might be called out at any time but you know that rarely if ever happens to most. By the way, maybe the federal govt. should start taxing these people for take home cars as income. That would put a stop to it.

Oh, lucky, naive you. We do change tires. Often. And we do have cars that need the air filled up in the tire every day, due to dented rims, or a screw in the tread, whatever. If a car goes unused for one tour, sometimes the tire is flat at the beginning of the next tour. If a car picks up a nail on the last tour, unknown to the driver, the tire may be flat a few hours later.
Here in 019 we have lost over 60 copppers tomreitre ment, promotion, and bidding out. We also had to give up 12 cars to the VRI. And to the idiot who said just change the tire, well I have changed many a tire in my 20 plus yrs on this job, but to change a tire on these new Tahoes, fuck it, what a pain in the ass. You have to take out the little square then assemble the lug wrench just to lower the spare and then crawl under the vehicle to unlock the cable holding the spare. then you reassemble the lug to Jack up the car. Changing the tire is easy but getting to the point where it can be changed is unworkable. Oh and if you try to do this at night w/o lighting you can forgetaboutit.

Don't laugh. They just added over 30 new Dics to Area Central, and snatched a shitload of our cars for this new TRU, MSF, SOS, SOG , whatever they're calling it. No cars for the new guys, riding 4 deep. They ARE getting rental cars for them. First said no emergency equip. for them, then said lights of some kind but no siren. Look for the Toyota with flashing headlights blowing it's horn...It's only a new Det.

That car was flat for three days and a piece of junk. No one wanted to change it in the cold and it probably would have sat there until spring. All of us know this happens all the time. The problem with the cars is this dumb work schedule where we overlap on midnight for a hour and a half. Then the districts are full or cars for another 22 1/2 hours.

They're called "rim leaks" or "valve leaks". It's a common occurrence during severely cold weather when the metal contracts due to the bitter cold and pulls away from the sidewall creating a slow leak.
Add to this the fact that ALL streets are in pretty bad shape due to the weather AND the action of plows scraping the surface creating pot holes.
It's a recipe for disaster. But it's not the fault of the officers.

Great memories, and the guys had pride, no one would drive on a flat and park the car with a flat, because we rotated and you never hurt the guys coming on the next watch. Notes used to be left for the second watch to get stuff fixed or go and replace the spare at the area, but we were a police department then, not a social agency. Back then most people could change a tire and reach the beat tag without climbing on the front seat. Yea we were a POLICE Department with pride, people of honor not cry babies, social workers, over educated-no common sense me, mine and only mine mentalities, of the castrated CPD of today.

Well, many of them have defective or unsafe spare tires and the jacks are broken in some of them.
Ever try to get a frozen lug nut loose with a 14" long jack handle? After the lug nut has been hammered on with an air wrench?

This notice is to tell you about about a "collective action" lawsuit in which you may join if you were a sworn police officer holding the rank of Lt or below and were assigned to OCD in the last 3 years. And who during that time used a department issued blackberry device to perform work while off duty, but did not receive FLSA overtime pay. Seeking to recover unpaid FLSA overtime pay, liquidated damages, and attorneys fees and costs.
The city has already denied that it violated FLSA and denies the plaintiff is entitled compensation. This lawsuit is currently in the pretrial stages in the Northern District of IL - Magistrate Judge Schenkier.

I have worked for Steve and wish we had more bosses like him. He holds people accountable and leads by example. He addresses problems and does the right thing, for that he is hated. I'm sure plenty of coppers walked right past that vehicle and said, "Not my problem." Supervisors should supervise and not worry about being our friend. Every decision I have seen him make has been to protect his people and encourage productivity. If it is leading the troops during NATO or holding people accountable for a flat tire he gets the job done better than any gold star in years. I'm sure the copper driving that squad right not is grateful.

Steve G comes off wrong a lot and as we all know there are always two sides to every story. But, he is the only boss left on this job that makes decisions and if you knew what he does to ensure families of those killed in the line of duty are taken care of you would not be saying anything bad. Listen, Im not defending Georgas or the department , but have you ever seen the condition of our newest cars, it seems that thier is a total lack of supervision or accountability for the taking care of our police cars by the POLICE temselves, just look at how FILHTY the 11th district cars are kept, listen to the radio and see how many coppers go down for gas due to the prior crew running it dry, granted Fleet has no pool cars but yo have to blame Fleet and the Administration bureeau for lack of communication to each other, but it only takes 20 minutes , even inbusy 11th district to take the cars to Grand and Ogden for a wash, yes they need more cars, but when young coppers get thier NUTS OFF abusing a car, its up to their SGts, to take corrective measures. so SUCK IT UP!!!
When Steve Georgas was the boss in 018, he got tired of coppers working special sitting in front of the projects, in thier own Lawn Chairs making time and a half looking like it was a social event. these coppers felt violated when they took the vans and cars away because they were caught sleeping in them, what do you lazy ases want a boss to do, condone crap like this, he did the right thing in 11, it is the W?C's job to check conditions of the station and take a walk outside to check conditionas, and if ytou see a car unsued or with a flat, get someone to fix it period !!!!! I thought SG was a micro manager and could be vindictive over bad info from so called friends. Over all he has good intentions regarding the JOB.

They took from everywhere for their new VRI. The D unit took a big hit; every area gave up alot of cars,siu gave 7, financial gave up 4, b/a 3, and fugitive had to give ALL their unmarkeds.
This dept is a joke.

I'm in the d-unit, had interviews to do, video to pick up, etc. No cars. So I read my Kindle, because without being able to do interviews or look for named offenders, there ain't lot I can do.
Fuck this shithole. No paper, no staplers, no file folders, no evidence bags, no printers that work, no cars=NO GIVE A SHIT ANYMORE!

Georgas is the best exempt here. If you don't like him I've got news for you. You are a dog or are a complete pos that scams and just cares about themselves. Georgas works more hours then everyone and if it wasn't for him we would be much worse off. Trust me.

When Steve Georgas was the boss in 018, he got tired of coppers working special sitting in front of the projects, in thier own Lawn Chairs making time and a half looking like it was a social event. these coppers felt violated when they took the vans and cars away because they were caught sleeping in them, what do you lazy ases want a boss to do, condone crap like this, he did the right thing in 11, it is the W?C's job to check conditions of the station and take a walk outside to check conditionas, and if ytou see a car unsued or with a flat, get someone to fix it period !!!!! If Steve Georgas caught poeple sleeping in the cars he should have wrote them up, if he saw people in lawn chairs, he should have taken action. To punish an entire detail for the transgressions of a few is the typical "I am the boss" mentality of a clouted asshole. Stevie has been taken care of his whole career. I doubt he has ever had to work special, a side job, or dealt with the beast on mids in the gehtto because he didn't have enough clout to get out. I sure he worked full days when he was Muaer's admin sgt, yup, no ducks there. I'm sure Commander of the Marine Unit was as equally grueling. Go out and hustle to make mortgage, tuition, and put food on the table and then have the stones to take my car on my day off because you heard some dogs were sleeping.
These exempts are a bunch of cowards who will do anything ant any cost to keep their positions.

No cars for the new guys, riding 4 deep. They ARE getting rental cars for them. First said no emergency equip. for them, then said lights of some kind but no siren. Look for the Toyota with flashing headlights blowing it's horn...It's only a new Det.
Why do you need emergency equipment, the vast majority of you don't respond to hot calls and you really don't need to fly to shooting that has already happened.

SCC the city stopped payment to Ford claiming the city has no money. So all those cars we were promised are not coming. Talk to anyone in fleet management they will confirm this
But Rahm promised Fords built in Chicago!!!

What is the car exempt from?
The way things are today, a boss, no matter how good he is, can't do anything without risk to his career unless he's heavily clouted. I believe Georgas is one of those guys. I don't have a problem with him treating other exempts with contempt. Most of them deserve it anyway. At the end of the day Georgas wont hurt you unless you are a dog. Lets face it, if you're in a sweet unit and are used to how things are "run" you'll resent any boss who comes in and expects you to actually work for the whole day.
Nice job last night in 011 VRI. While you were standing around yakking it up waiting for check off, did you hear the 011 district midnight guy calling for help on the radio? Did you notice the 011 district officers who were in the station running out of district to go help? Did you notice the concern on their faces? Did you notice the desk crew turning their radio up to blast so they could hear over your laughter,
