Dangerous Neighborhoods

Out of 25 neighborhoods nationwide, Chicago gets 4 mentions:
  • A 12-block stretch of the Auburn Gresham community is being called Chicago's most dangerous neighborhood and the 4th most dangerous in America, based on a study of 2011 crime statistics.

NeighborHoodScout.com said residents have a 1-in-9 chance of becoming crime victims, but Chicago Police say several other neighborhoods suffer more violent crime.

Residents of Auburn Gresham say that while statisticians debate whether it's the most dangerous neighborhood, there's no doubt it's a place where violence is a big problem.
The rest?
  • S. Indiana Ave./ E. 60th St.
  • S. Ashland Ave./W. 76th St.
  • S.Homan Ave./W. Roosevelt Rd.
Chicago got four mentions. The only other city to have that many?

Detroit.

Rahm and Garry must be so proud!

And the bullshit begins about how crime is down in 2013 vs. 2011 when these numbers were tabulated.

Hint: Cold winter. Colder, wetter than normal spring...

But with 70 and 80 degree temps being forecast for the next two or three days, watch for the bally-hooed City Hall & 35th St. "decreasing increase" amounting to the pure dammit bullshit that the non-stop frantic pronouncements from downtown are recognized as being.

Most interesting to me is that the top location in Chicago is only ONE block from the 6th District.

YAY - WE'RE NUMBER ONE!

Well almost. Did the data come from the FBI UCR stats whereas the FBI doesn't agree with our reporting methodolgy?

Like that's not a violent crime, that's not a homicide!

No, no-no..it's a leadership issue.

Like when your team doesn't show up at a ball game.. Ya know?

What's the UCR for leadership issues anyways?

From that list:

No. 4. 77th & Halsted -- borders a Chicago Police Department parking lot.

No. 13. Homan & Roosevelt -- one block from a Chicago Police Facility that houses many units including the CPD's most heavily armed and trained unit.

No. 16. 76th & Ashland -- approximately 1.25 miles from nearest CPD police station

No. 25. 60th & Indiana -- about two miles from President O bammas house.

Food for thought . . . I better get the antacid . .

As for the VRI cars having audio recording, they're all pools cars with out cameras. There also doesn't seem to be any tech stuff in the truck. My guess they sat there for a few hours with an open key. Which basically happens all day long on zone 10 and 12.

Obviously you never work VRI cuz they are not all pool cars, the fucking city has only a handful of citywide pools, the cars were stolen from units all over the city, why do you see all the unmarked cars as well there sparky?..

Who believes more officers makes an impact? How about the Mayor and Chief in LA.

Below excerpt was in yesterday's LA Times:

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck argues that there is an important correlation between officer staffing levels and lower crime rates.

Mayor Villaraigosa, whose legacy is tied to his record of expanding the Police Department, despite the Great Recession, also draws a direct line between more cops and less crime. The city has had fewer than 300 murders each of the last three years, he notes, down from a high of nearly 1,100 in 1992.

"The numbers speak for themselves," Villaraigosa said. "A 49% drop in violent crime and homicides, a 66% drop in gang homicides. Growing our Police Department and ... community policing is a big reason why we are safer today."

Once took the S. Ashland bus by mistake and when I realized it I decided to catch a northbound bus at the next stop

As soon as I stepped off the bus & it pulled away, doors closing behind me, I realized NOT a good idea.

It was one of those really nice early warm spring nights, 9:30pm and coming back from a business trip flying in to Midway, I was wearing a white and black checkered sport coat, black dress paints, and shoes that I suddenly realized were right for a funeral.

I launched from the bus smack dab in the jungle.

Mind racing a mile a minute, I don't have my knife, I don't have my gun, take that neon sign sport coat off and cross the street to the northbound side in a Richard Pryor/Gene Wilder prison "We Bad" strut (me Wilder) and and find a cab. There are no fucking cabs down here you idiot, I say to myself. Next thought, get your ass in that store front crevasse by the northbound bus stop post haste.

Made it out of there but I'll never forget how defenseless I felt without some personal protection.

It's a crime the politicians in this state make us criminals for carrying personal protection.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
AAA said Tuesday that motorists nationwide are paying the lowest springtime gas prices in three years, but don’t tell that to drivers in Illinois.
Despite a recent dip, drivers here are paying the highest average price in the lower 48 states. With a statewide average on Tuesday of $3.91 a gallon, Illinois drivers are paying more than every state except Alaska at $3.97 and Hawaii and $4.34.

Costs are even higher in Chicago where the average price was $4.32 per gallon Tuesday, according to AAA. Prices averaged $4.14 in the suburbs.

Off topic but looking for some help. This Sunday is St. Jude and I am looking for an assist in letting RETIREES know that we have a place in line of march. RETIREES are in position #7 immediately following the Gold Star Families. The last couple of years I've gone after only missing one gathering in 26 years, and the retired turnout has been minimal. I think the low turnout can be attributed to the fact that most retired coppers didn't know that we have a place. I just want to honor the fallen as much as possible.

You're just as bad as those clowns that complain about losing D3 pay for Desk Sergeant duties, but are too afraid to drop a grievance. A guy at the desk downstairs claims to have close to 300 grievances in for this shit and said he is the ONLY one in the district to drop paper to try and make things whole - the others talk and talk and talk but that's it. Cowards.

Go look in the mirror to see why this job ain't what it one was. Too much college, not enough high school. I hate to see how you handle yourself on the street. Do you complain to the store owners that the jagoffs in front gave you dirty looks when you walked in too? Glad I'm gone in 3.

My parents got a phone call with "city of Chicago" on their caller I'd and answered it. my parents were born in Chicago and have lived their entire lives on the south side . first my mom tried to figure out what this woman was saying but handed the phone to my father in frustration. He couldn't figure it out either. Between the two of them they deduced the caller dialed the wrong number but that is still a guess. It's a different world.

4/30/2013 08:13:00 AM

Had to laugh after seeing a guy trying to walk outside A/2 this afternoon. Bow legged mincing baby steps because the crotch of his pants were at his knees. a generation of kids will be permanently disfigured, walking like old cowboys because they are too cool or stupid to buy a belt. I haven't seen anyone trip and fall while running away but would probably lmao.

maybe we should have someone invent a bullet proof organic armor that can grow on kid's skin, so as they "mature" (snicker) they will not be able to hurt by gunfire...

oh wait, we, as a nation, have successfully beat out of this generation any innovation, creativity and work ethic...

never mind, let's just sew some more body bags..that'll help.

no wonder why people get sloshed and do grubs. God save us.

Here's what the CPD really needs: take every Cmdr that is an XO and reduce them to their career service rank of Lt or Capt. We have too many XOs in this dept. Then you could hold off a bit on Lt and Capt promotions. Next, hold off and make 100 sgts in the fall. In the meantime hire as many POs as you can and get them trained and on the street. That's what we really need. Beside a new superintendent.

In Lawndale, on S homan and W Roosevelt, all of the criminals do not live in the area and decent residents are under assault too, people should stop saying the residents are to blame. I have witnessed hoodlums trying to rob or extort money from local businesses and they do nothing, then you are liable to become a victim of crime for patronizing their business. All of the residents are not to blame, work harder to arrest the guilty parties and eveybody's life will be better.

4/30/2013 03:50:00 PM

So, it's the fault of the Police that your neighborhood is a shithole?

Couldn't possibly be the so-called parents that never taught their kids any moral values.

Always someone else's fault.

No,the ratio doesn't piss me off. The fairy tale does. See, I don't think it makes a difference to the victim the complexion of the offender. Have you ever heard a woman say she was glad the rapist is the same race as her? Would the family of a murder victim feel better if the offender shared the same race as their deceased loved one? You should concentrate on being proactive instead of reactive. If you police the same way as you think you're a terrible policeman.

No. If you know a pattern exists wherein at 2:30 PM every Tuesday two M/1s are robbing people on the 1500 block of north Ashland and now it's Tuesday;2:30 PM, yes you should put a stop on the two M/1s you see there. The problems occur when some poor sap working in a factory for 14 hours gets off the bus heading home and is stopped and the copper gets pissed because he/she doesn't like the response given and instead of recognizing the situation escalates it into more than necessary.

First thing for most you have to remember San Francisco international airport is not located in the city of San Francisco. It is actually in a smaller town about 15 miles south of the bay which called peninsula because there is such a high volume of ground transportation. cab services
