More Payton v Brooks Controversy

The street theater plays out according to the liberal playbook. Cries of racism, excuses presented by both sides. The usual suspects (Phleger and other assholes) demand apologies and attempt to publicly shame responsible parents for caring about their kids safety, more excuses, and now they've forfeited the initial forfeit and will replay the game on a Saturday morning.

We noticed the principal at Payton bears the name Devine. Yes, that's former States Attorney and Daley assistant Dick Devine's kid. Someone also points out the CPS athletic director is named Trotter, no doubt a relative of Cortez and the gun-hypocrite Donne. Reading that, you knew this one was going to get stupid quickly.

The excuses were legion:
  • Payton suspended too many athletes for missing practices. The reason for missed practices? College visits. Does this excuse even pass the smell test? What happened to excused absences for trips like those? Coaches actually encouraged education at one point.
  • No buses were ordered, therefore parents would have had to car pool the kids south. Driving through Roseland after dark isn't something we do lightly, and we carry a gun and a radio. Do we really have to run down the list of people passing through certain neighborhoods who catch bullets?
When you get down to it, parents are responsible for the safety of their children, not the school, not the principal, not the teachers, coaches or the state. These are minor children and the parent's word is (should be) law. You won't see that uttered in the liberal world where the State knows best and "it takes a village blah blah blah." The problem here is too many parents abdicate their responsibility to the school, then when they finally realize the kids are headed to a war zone, they voice objections and are promptly labeled as "racist" for daring to know better than the State.

By the way, we still haven't heard where the Coach sleeps at night. Does he stay in Roseland? We're betting not. And where do the two principals send their children to school? Public or private? Neighborhood or magnet? So many potential double standards and no one asking any questions.

C'mon what's the worst that could happen. Sure some CPS football games at nearby gate lay stadium had a stabbing and turned into a riot needing a citywide response from the police. Then the next week the same field another fight and 005 district needing additional units from out side districts. Maybe the parents read the paper about the CPS basketball game at Chicago State that ended in a brawl and then had a murder in the parking lot. I bet those parents regret letting their son go to a CPS sporting g event at night on the southside. But yeah the parents are over reacting.

So the parents of the Payton students don't want their kids going into those neighborhoods because they are perceived to be unsafe.

But aren't those the same neighborhoods that the parents are saying "don't close the local schools because then our kids who have to go into unsafe neighborhoods"?

Unarmed?

Are You out of your eff-ing mind?

Like a parent is going to stop someone from getting shot, stabbed or beaten by a mob? We have a history of this crap in this city.

Send Rahm to the game with his city council in tow. UNARMED without their security detail to show us all how safe it is. Take the Red line. Come-on. Walk the talk and 'reach out' to the community.

Really? Are we making excuses for this matter? It is plain and simple to see the attitudes that took place in the decision to not have the students attend the game at Brooks. The schedules for sports teams at schools are made how far in advance? And the best excuse is that there was no transportation ordered in time? These kids are between the ages 14-18yrs old and this is what is being taught to them now......What happens when they are faced with "other prejudices" between age 21-the rest of their lives? Even if we ignore the "Race" issue, there is a liability issue that should not be borne on the parents. What happens if a parent is driving their kid and a couple of other players and they get hit by an uninsured/license suspended resident of Roseland, believe it or not Sun-Times they are out there. At that point, will Peyton H.S. assume liability? I think not. Then there is the stray bullet issue; yes stray bullets hit innocent passing vehicles in Roseland. Didn't we just about have a National Day of Mourning over an innocent child killed on the Southside? Deny all you want, the reality is that there are areas in Chicago that are not safe, and I would not want my child there, unless he was a cop, firefighter or social worker.

This is by far the most stupid comment yet.
Hopefully as parents you teach your kids NOT to go into a war zone knowingly. Unless you prepare them to defend themselves. As a parent I will NOT go into a war zone eaither unless I can defend myself. Will they get shot ? Maybe not. Are the chances much higher that they will ? Yes. Why dont you go for a nice drive thru the neighborhood with your windows down and just enjoy a nice sunny day. I will send a card to your hospital room.

Okay plain in simple I lived & worked in Roseland from 79-82 , it was scary then with little pockets of die-hards that wouldn't leave. Plain & simple the night belonged to the beast back then. Got home one night after coming down 130th to Michigan to go down the hill bullet hole in trunk the next morning. In August 82 coming home one one night got down to 117th and got the right mirror shot off, Moved 6weeks later. Block I was on was only safe cause there was 2 house's of Mexican Drug dealers there and they were under the eye of the G from the electric sub-station at the end of the block. I can't even imagine driving anywhere in or around that block even a 6 am now. Well done &good move parents..........And now there is a make-up ask point blank are you going to guarrantee my son's saftey at the game and to & from, if there is a second of hesation he ain't going. OH COME ON!

The Parents at Payton aren't being good sports and willing to possibly sacrifice the safety of their children in furtherance of keeping up appearances that all is hunky-dory in Chicago and this dust-up is much ado over nothing?

Heh... This IS amusing...

Vast swaths of this city are considered "Cannibal Country" thanks to consecutive mayoral administrations destroying CPD's ability to keep the butchery on the streets in check...

Nobody sayin' nuttin' about approximately 5000+ retirements since Y2K and many years of a couple hundred hires if that many...

Is anybody going to ask for an accounting of the surplus monies City Hall has diverted from CPD for all this time?

Salaries for multiple thousands of Policemen intentionally not hired for over a decade is a not insubstantial sum...

Daley Inc. and Rahm & Co. seem adamant in treating the ordinary tax payer with immense disrespect in regard to the return on the tax payer's contribution to fund public safety in this town.

The bottom line is that decent and hard working people no longer feel safe...

Truth is, they really shouldn't feel safe because the political powers seek safety from the tax payers and contributors.

How? by hiding behind the numerous, non-contributory, catered to democratic constituency that they have given this city over to, as a check against the tax payers making a concerted move to take their city back.

The takers outnumber the makers and contributors in Chicago...

The armed wing of which, is doing their best to render this city unfit for decent people to live and move about in relative safety.

The media can turn a blind eye and Rahm can have his underlings hijack and redirect pointed commentary while his supporters in Hollywood, NYC and the Gold Coast & North Shore cocktail party and fundraiser circuit lend much financial aid to him so he can "manage the message" long enough to keep the charade going.

Remember, Chicago tax payers... These people truly hold themselves to be much smarter that you.

The Payton v. Brooks controversy just scratches the surface as to what's really going on.

Heh... Rahm and the jokers always on-stage with him, flip their hands dismissively at the concerns these good parents at Payton raise.

Deep inside, they're furious at the Payton parents because pointy questions are being raised by the little people who were supposed to stay quiet and those pointy questions are getting a LOT OF MEDIA PLAY.

This seriously fucks up the narrative that Rahm & Co. have expended much capitol and energy trying to superimpose on the reality seen on these streets.

*Squeaky-Squooky-Squeak!*

More freshly twisted balloon animals of distraction, coming right up.

Seriously, at least these kids and their parents will be alive. This has nothing to do with race and everything to do with safety. Anybody who says otherwise is delusional.
This city has turned claims of racism into big business. The whole life and careers of the Reverends on the South and West sides are dedicated to this mission. The news outlets write about it because it sells papers, and the politicians jump in to look good to the voters on the South and West side. All in all, to the objective observer, it's a joke that would be funny if it were not so offensive.

A relative plays for the Ogden HS (the Gold Coast neighborhood HS) baseball team. Saturday they had a day game which scheduled to play a game at 500 S. Washtenaw in Altgeld Park. I told his Dad the players and fans were risking their personal safety in going. However, without even being asked, the coach of the other school volunteered to move the game to the field by Dunbar. Unfortunately, the coach forgot to reserve the field, and others had it booked all day, so no game. Perhaps there is an issue with these coaches?

I went to Mendel in the mid 70's and the concept of that area becoming a bunghole was starting then. Taking the bus back and forth from the East Side(which now looks a lot like Tijuana) was getting chancy then, and I vividly remember getting jumped by 8-10 "yuts" of color ON THE CAMPUS GROUNDS after a basketball game, so the coach of the Peyton team had a valid point. Also during that time, I remember the caravan of buses and cars that would regularly get stoned literally by the citizens when we had to play a game at Hales Franciscian on 50th and Cottage Grove. Funny, but none of that EVER hit the news even back then. Hmmmm?

I went to the Peyton site, this game is not on the schedule, so probably a coach trying to get a game in after so many rained out games.

Coach finds out no bus available. (nice job CPS) Game is Saturday night.

I would guess many people have already made plans. So cancel plans and drive your kid, or let them drive.

Any reasonable parent is not letting their kid drive to game.
Coach figures out he will be short players for some hastily arranges game and cancels.

How this became a race issue is beyond me.

Baseball is tough due to the weather. My nephew's team had a CPS cancel last weekend. (perhaps to make up a conference game, or fear of the west burbs)

What'sthe problem with the leaders today? Everyone screams parents aren't doing their jobs (ok, we're talking majority ghetto dwellers here) but now your have parents looking out for the welfare of their kids because of the area they are required to go to for a BALLGAME, a bad area at that, and they are scrutinized because they are protecting the welfare of their kids. Screw the city and the media and kudos to the parents who know when to say no, not a good idea.

First of all, why were Payton athletes being punished for missing practice due to college visits and tests?

Secondly, why did Payton athletes miss practice when the testing for CPS students lasted until Noon for juniors?

Third, the principal at Payton needs to find more qualified personnel if the baseball coach can't conform a bus for a game. Do coaches sscheule the bus for games or is the AD?

This whole matter seems like a combination of parents not knowing anything about the areas of the city after they move to Chicago from the suburbs or other states along with a dimwit baseball coach who doesn't know how to think on his feet.

Though, to the Payton baseball coach's defense, the lazy ass AD at Lane Tech (Leroy Jarka) is always screwing up ordering buses, scheduling games, and turning in accurate financials to the school. Jarka costs lane's wrestlers a chance to compete in a tourney, which is scheduled months in advance, by forgetting to schedule transportation.

BTW: Did all of the coaches involved in the debacle have their ASEP or NHFS certifications if they weren't certified teachers or staffers?

Coaching for CPS is lot more than showing up and wearing a shirt which reads coach.
