It's Good to Be the King

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel was in Atlanta for the Final Four, he had his picture taken with basketball Hall-of-Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and he’s apparently rooting for Michigan.

In this photo, taken wherever celebrities are hanging out at the Georgia Dome and tweeted by Kareem, Emanuel’s teenage daughter Leah is wearing a “Michigan Family” t-shirt. Like all the mayor’s children, Leah attends the University of Chicago Lab School. Neither Rahm, his wife or his brothers went to Michigan, so it’s uncertain what the family connection is.

This is the Emanuel family’s second glamorous vacation in a month. In late March, the Emanuels went skiing in Park City, Utah, where Rahm was spotted at Robert Redford’s Sundance Film Festival. Rahm also visited New York in March...
No family connection, but you can bet some campaign contributor paid the freight somewhere along the line for the entire family to show up. The referenced twitter photo can be found at the link.

And shouldn't that kid be in school?

He is a carpetbagger!

He was talking at Roger Eberts wake.

This guy loves the camera his lawyer brother should hook him up with a sitcom.

car·pet·bag·ger
/ˈkärpitˌbagər/
Noun

1 A political candidate who seeks election in an area where they have no local connections.
2 A person from the northern states who went to the South after the Civil War to profit from the Reconstruction.

The second definition kinda fits:

bike lane, northerly island, parking lots for cubs, and of course closing schools to build charters.

Must be nice to be able to go to the Cubs home opener, sitting in club box seats, in the afternoon and then jet down to the ATL for a sold out game that REAL college basketball fans couldn't get/afford tickets to. All this while parents & students are begging for their schools not to be closed. Taxpayers of Chicago, that's a big "Fuck you" from the mayor. What a jackass!

I would not take that bet. Rahm made MILLIONS as an investment banker before he ran for office. And he's got his flaws, but stupidity isn't one of them. He doesn't need to risk the bad press when he has money coming out of his nose. No doubt his connections got him special access, though.

And, just like it's none of my business to question how you raise your kids, its none of yours to question where he puts his kids in school...where he takes them, when he takes them out of school, or how he parents. I think you could agree with that, no?

He blows from city to city, getting into the Departments of Transportation just in time to welcome Canadian millionaire Alison Cohen in the door with her "GPS-kiosk urban-rent-a-bikes program." The bikes are all made in Canada...this tag team has hit one big city after another and I wonder if they've gotten the deal all sewed up here yet.

Glad to see someone else is recognizing the fawning of the media.

Wake up! Our media is a bunch of starry-eyed cheerleaders trying to hook up with politicians.

Instead of asking them the hard questions that they should be asking, they are just a rah-rah section for their political antics.

Next case.

OT FOR A MINUTE GUYS AND GALS: But really enough is enough with the passing of Ebert. Oh Lord when a Copper or Firefighter is killed in the line of duty they get about 3% of coverage as Roger. But put cards on table. Rog got married after 50 yoa and left all to chaz and her kids. Great. Rog also spent most of his life drinking and watching movies. Who really gives a fuck about what some alky thinks of about a movie when cops n firefighters killed for BULLSHIT leaving behind a grieving family until they die? Enough with the roger shit. Bottom line is-do you really care that he's gone? Will it change your life at all? Did not think so. Retired after 32 yrs CPD and put in danger often just like CPD does today. Wish I had a job for those 32 yrs drinking and watchin movies. Roeper same way as rog but not as much drinking.

SERIOUSLY? His Bachelors degree is in "Interpreted Dance". He has a law degree (granted) (means nothing in the real world). He has NO business background! No experience in the real business world (Read: Free Market Economy). He made his millions in the banking industry ONLY after Bill Clinton placed him there!

Good to be King? Really? How about Court Jester! Read this article and see how the "King" and his sidekick "McGoofy" are putting undercover officers lives in danger just to toot their own horns!
From Chicago Tribune Breaking News:
Thirty Chicago police officers will be part of a new undercover initiative targeting drug dealing by West Side gangs, city officials announced today.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony for police recruits, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said the initiative will employ a “buy-and-bust strategy,” and is an example of the “strategic policing” approach he has advocated.

Undercover officers will work to arrest drug dealers, then uniformed officers will flood the area to prevent other drug dealers and gangs from claiming the territory, the police department said in a statement.
The initiative focuses on short-term narcotics investigations and buy/bust missions that are being completed in addition to the long- term narcotics investigations.

Officers and social service agencies will then “saturate” the neighborhoods “to clean them up, remove the drug trade and reduce the gun violence and reduce the homicide rate on the West Side,” Emanuel said.

Community based programs work with CAPS to engage community members in a variety of support programs, including family advocacy, after school programs, ex-offender programs, drug treatment referral, job training, family counseling, and inspirational hours on the block and truancy programs, officials said.

The 30 undercover officers to be assigned to the initiative are among 200 officers who will be moved from desk jobs to street duty to curb violence, the department said.

The new initiative addresses emerging problems and gang/narcotic-related violence in a quick efficient manner with new resources, including officers moving from administrative duties.

Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy mentioned the initiative in his address to the 68 rookie cops who took their oaths at Navy Pier Tuesday, saying it was "an example of the important work we do as police officers.”

Let's get this straight: the cops working this operation are not, and have not been moved from "desk duties". All the officers brought in to do this operation are from the streets already.
Thanks for letting the media know what areas these officers are going to be working and giving up the departments' strategies ...yeah, that's real smart! A little dangerous too! IDIOTS

What I won't agree with is his children being driven across the city to school by CPD at taxpayers expense! Someone suggested salaries and vehicle cost is $400,000. per year. He is a millionaire and these costs should not be paid by citizens. So yes it does matter where his children go to school because I'm paying for it!
