Breathe Easier

Jerry Taft, who isn't nearly as fun as Tommy Skilling, has a rough patch of weather on tap for the upper midwest:
  • Tuesday: Showers likely in the morning. Could be a wide range of temperatures through the day. Around 40 near the lakefront and near 70 well south. High: 61, Low: 45.

Wednesday: Showers and thunderstorms. High: 54, Low: 42.

Thursday: Cloudy with rain likely and turning colder. High: 48, Low: 34.

Friday: Partly sunny. High: 42, Low: 31.

Saturday: Partly sunny. High: 52, Low: 38.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy. High: 60, Low: 46.

Monday: Cloudy. High: 53, Low: 37
This doesn't bode well for the Cubs homestand either.

We seem to have done okay over last weekend, too.  Only a few dead and under 20 wounded.  So a nice job all around there.

Maybe not as much fun but a bonafide good guy. Jerry Taft is a 15 year veteran of the US Air Force and did a tour in Vietnam flying. He does not have a brother in prison for massive fraud like Skilling. And would you believe Jerry Taft is 70 years old? Yup. He is 9 years older than Tom Skilling and as a former all around fuck up when young is a man after my own heart. A neighborhood screw up who got his life in order. I can identify with that. I visited a couple of police stations as a yute. And every time I ran into Jerry Taft in between newscasts on the street around Lake and State (working the tubes) Jerry never failed to greet the on duty police and say hi and stay safe etc. He's OK by me.

The way the Cubs play, a week's worth of rainouts is a blessing. I'm going to violate an SCC rule. CUT MARMOL! HE SUCKS. DON'T TRY TO TRADE HIM, JUST GET RID OF HIM!!!

Sorry, but I had to.

It would be funny if not so sad that we collectively think that 2 dead and a 20 wounded makes for a good weekend. Besides, crappy weather simply pushes the shootin' and killin' to nicer days.

The Cubs will play badly despite the weather. But their mindless fans will still show up.

I second 12:52 AM.

From yesteryear, I beg to differ about fun-loving Jerry Taft. In his single Ferrari days in Lincoln Park, Jerry loved to party. We had a whole lot of good times. All aces and a friend of the CPD.

All the best, Jerry!

I'm a Taft fan too, I also had a chance run in with him a d he was friendly and cool. That said I don't think it's fair to bash Skilling for what his brother did. TS had nothing to do with it.

The scanner lit up Monday for shootings and gang violence. Seems every 2-5 minutes there was some gang activity going on. I'm almost sure there was more than 15 shootings Monday alone.

You are absolutely correct. While handling a case downtown, he was my witness in a beef. He's #1 with me.

Ships going down and the smart ones are getting in the lifeboats before they get caught in the undertow. McCaptainSmith is a little grouchy about people bailing on him.

Who cares?

Who keeps up with the perennial losers of the Northside?

Typical bar banter -
Patron 1: Did the Cubs play today?

Patron 2: Who did they lose to?

Patron 3: Who cares? As long as they lost.....

Say it isn't so. SCC - are you a Cubs fan???

Both Jerry and Tom are great people. They are the last of the good guys on the news. Bill Kurtis is another good man.

Northside, remember Fahey Flynn ? He was a gent too. Loved the CPD. P.J. Hoff was another pro police guy.

All the real media guys are long gone. They were the best.

Take is easy on Tom, he's involved in and has mentioned the cpd memorial foundation during the channel 9 news to promote it many times while everyone else could give two shits about it.

Point made. Agreed. The Skillings aren't like, oh, the Carothers family for instance.
