Screw Chicago

  • A key Illinois senator says legislation allowing public gun possession will carve out an exception for Chicago.

Republican Sen. Tim Bivins says the measure he and Democratic Sen. Kwame Raoul negotiated would allow Cook County authorities to deny a concealed carry permit even if an applicant passes the required background checks.

The former county sheriff from Dixon says the rest of the state would be governed by a so-called "shall issue" law — anyone meeting requirements would get a carry permit.

Bivins says the bill is being written. He says it's not ideal but gun-rights advocates have to compromise.
So Cook County (and by extension Chicago), which pretty much carries the State of Illinois in crime and homicide numbers, would just be written off by idiots like Bivins. The people who need it most, too bad. You'll just have to continue being victims, being accosted in your homes, on the street, robbed, raped and murdered.

Separate but equal? We sense racist undertones here. Can't have decent minorities protecting themselves you know. How about "fuck you Bivins."

sounds like an excellent basis for a lawsuit, following the successful passing of the 'shall issue' legislation applying to the rest of the state.

Nobody should be surprised by this. The Peoples Socialist Republic of Cook County has always been seen by Non-Cook Countians as separate from Illinois! Let's be real here; were it not for Chicago and the Daley Machine, Illinois would have had Right to Carry years ago. Remember, the restrictive laws on handgun ownership existed in Chicago since Jayne Byrne and in Chicago alone. Oak Park and other suburbs followed the Chicago lead movement. No other County, village or municipality had such restrictive laws anywhere in Illinois! And, let's not get tunnel vision here, there are over 100 counties in Illinois, not just the County of Crook."G"

This, too will eventually be declared unconstitutional.

But how long will Chicagoans have to wait to be allowed to protect themselves.

The gang murders and CCW are to separate and distinct issues. One has nothing to do with the other.

The "Chicago Gang" (Preckwinkle, Emanuel, McCarthy & Quinn) are (successfully, apparently) tying the two issues together.

If carving out & sacrificing Chicago is the only way this state will get CCW, then that's what will happen.

In the eyes of many, Chicago is a lost cause, anyway.

Tim and shitheads like Tim don't get. Crooked politicians in the IL legislature have been ordered by a federal Court to craft and pass a concealed carry law with the due date in June. Tim and some of the aforementioned want to flip off the Court, again demonstrating a disregard for lawful and otherwise mandated duties that is not unique to Illinois politicans. Now Tim, being an elected leader and someone who SHOULD be leading in good faith wants to disobey the intent and order of the Court proving once again Illinois politicians are contemptuous of the law and often times spend lengthly periods in prison as a consequence. An ending by the way to a political career that makes many of us pleased. Tim, since you want to ignore the Court and continue litigation I have an idea. Here is how we citizens flip off the law. When you or one of your political cronys finds your narrow behind under indictment, we citizen jurors require you prove your innocense. There should be a new standard for politicans, guilty until proven innocent.

Cabello Looks to Strip Elected Officials of Concealed Carry

Illinois State Representative John Cabello this week advanced legislation in the Illinois House ensuring elected officials are held to the same rules as other citizens regarding the concealed carry of firearms.

Cabello (R-Machesney Park) won House Judiciary Committee approval of HB 1711, which removes special permissions allowing mayors, alderman, presidents, trustees, marshals, and deputy marshals to carry a concealed firearm in communities where other law abiding citizens are denied that right.

Currently, the law classifies each of these elected offices as “conservators of the peace” and so affords them special rights to carry a concealed firearm.

Cabello said he introduced this legislation as an attempt to level the playing field between lawmakers and citizens.

“In light of the gun control measures that the City of Chicago imposes on its citizens, it’s only fair that elected officials are held to the same standard,” said Cabello. “Elected officials are no better than the people they represent and they should not have rights that are restricted from their constituents.”

In order to be named a conservator of the peace and be allowed to concealed carry, these officials need to complete a training course and be issued a certificate from the Training Standards Board. Once given the certificate, a conservator of the peace has much the same function of a police officer.

They can arrest and detain people on suspicion of crimes; in essence they become an arm of law enforcement.

Cabello’s bill would take these functions away as well as the right to conceal carry.

As a law enforcement officer himself, Cabello believes that only police should be doing police work; rather than allowing police privileges to be extended to alderman or mayors.

Initially this bill targeted municipalities with a population of over 1 million. However, an amendment was filed to extend this provision to municipalities across the entire state. The bill would preserve the status of part-time and auxiliary police officers to be conservators of the peace thus would not affect them.

“John Kass hit it right on the head in his article,” noted Cabello. “A shop owner can’t protect himself with a firearm and is subjected to the mercy of thugs in the city. But elected officials have either body guards to protect them or are allowed to concealed carry.

My bill would reduce these officials to having the same rights that they are enforcing on those they represent.”

The bill now moves to the House floor where it will be considered by the full chamber in the coming weeks.

Nothing happens to the legislaters. The taxpayers will have to pay a hefty fine for everyday the state goes with out fixing the problem.

The same thing use to happen when the county lock-up was over populated nothing happened to the legistaters or the decision makers, the taxpayers had to pay a hefty fine for everyday the lock-up was overpopulated. I'm sorry that happened to you, but good for them. I know it is an inconvenience to us who are law enforcement and pro gun, but I agree with all of the companies that refuse to sell to us because we elected un-American socialists to office.

If our elected officials are so anti-Second Amendment, they represent ALL OF US. Until we get rid of these socialist scum, we should suffer under them. Elections have consequences.

Keep in mind that you are a citizen. No different because you're law enforcement. If the rights of citizens are trampled upon, YOUR rights should be as well. You are not a special class with special rights. That's what the socialists consider themselves.

So, in short, go get your gun somewhere else. They won't sell to communists, which is what we represent because of who we elected.

But, I think they have it misinterpreted. I told them it was work related.
They told me they just got "audited" and got real nasty and ignorant.
I'm calling corporate office and will advise later.

It's their store and merchandise and can refuse to sell to anyone.

I think it's bad policy. I won't shop there anymore.

Police already have concealed carry. Why should FOP take up the issue of civilians CC?

4/21/2013 08:42:00 AM

What would you say if they took away CC for the police? What if you could only carry on duty? How would you feel about it then? It's an issue for ALL of us. You are pretty short sighted.

Do you feel that your spouse should be left defenseless? Read the Constitution sometime. You did swear to uphold and defend it.

You should shop in the Chicago gun stores. Oh, wait. That's right. You live in a banana republic run by tyrants just like in the rest of the third world. You have no rights. Enjoy that and keep voting democrat!

Um, they're not supposed to sell anyone who resides outside the state. They will transfer it to the Cabellas in Hoffman Estates if you want, but save urself the trip. Just drive up north

Las Vegas is always a nicer and more fun place to live than Chicago!

That's where I'm headed!

Southern Nevada here I come!

Chicago and Illinois is just an embarrassment to the nation!

Nevada is one of the top 10 states for highest tax on retired persons. Surprisingly, Ill isn't. I'm still bailing out of this toilet.

1) Because police can't be everywhere to protect everyone at the same time.

2) I don't care WHO blasts an offender who needs blasting, just as long as he gets blasted.

You cannot get sued for enforcing a currently valid law on the books. The Department may be sued and the law determined unconstitutional, but an officer will have no personal liability.

"currently valid" being the key phrase.

Today the issue is gun rights, but there are a host of laws that treat Cook County residents differently than the rest of the state.

This is really getting to be a huge problem. More and more legislation that treats Chicagoans or Cook County residents differently than those elsewhere in Illinois. The General Assembly has gone overboard reinforcing the power of the corrupt Democratic machine by making such distinctions more and more commonplace. It is a denial of Equal Protection.

Not true. The law has already been ruled unconstitutional, so under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, a law enforcement officer has no immunity from a civil-rights lawsuit if he or she arrests someone for breaking that law.

The relevant section reads as follows:
"Every person who under color of any statute, ordinance, regulation, custom, or usage, of any State... subjects, or causes to be subjected, any citizen of the United States or other person within the jurisdiction thereof to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured by the Constitution and laws, shall be liable to the party injured in an action at law..."

Check the law. You cannot sell HANDGUNS to someone who resides outside of the state where the sale takes place without the purchaser's in-state FFL. Rifles are different.

SCC

If the 7th Circuit found UUW to be unconstituitional, and the deemed the Legislature to pass a Concealed Carry Bill within 180 days.

At what point does the unconstitutionality begin? After the 180 days?

Or is it unconstitutional on the spot and everone is just waiting the 180 days for the drafting of the legislation? Unconstitutional is unconstitutional? No?

Many people seems to think they can carry(with a valid FOID) after the 180 days, if there is no Concealed Carry Law put into place(much like Vermont)by the June 6 deadline. Why not carry(with a valid FOID)now if it has been deemed unconstitutional? Just wondering?
