Very Suspicious
- For the second time in just more than a year, a person was found dead at the bottom of a trash chute inside a Gold Coast high-rise building.
In the most recent case, how an elderly woman ended up there remains a mystery. Authorities are investigating the possibility that she somehow fell into the opening.
- On Feb. 20, 2012, 17-year-old Charlie Manley fell to his death down the same garbage chute. Manley had autism and down syndrome...
Here's the chute door:
One unsupervised kid with autism and Down syndrome we could see.
Another woman from the same building? In the same garbage chute? We aren't a big believer in coincidences of this sort.

Hey badabing she probably had a debt she could not repay maybe?!Forgetaboutit
It's the Smiley Face Killers sidekick, the 1555 North Astor St Garbage Chute Killer.
The gang leader should have known better than to give the job to a Chicago Public School honor student on a piece of paper. He ordered two shootings, and got two chuteings instead.
This is definitely criminal in nature. Probably a neighbor who gets his turn on preying on old and young.
It's happened before. For some reason this isn't the most uncommon event. Happened at the old Days Inn in Lincoln Park on Clark st. not far from the latest incident.

The news said she was 80 and had other problems
Used an identical one a few minutes ago.
You have to give the T-handle a quarter-turn and pull the door open and hold it open. Hinge is across bottom.
Even open, it is partially enclosed at the sides. A chute.
The thing is spring-loaded. If you let go, the door closes and latches again.
...and the thing swings open maybe a 70-degree arc and then stops.
McCompStat believes in coincidence
There's nothing related between a cold snap and a drop in crime. The new strategy is working ya see
Common sense tells you it was a murder.
CSI would have solved this case days ago. It's obvious we have a serial killer living in the building. Even Stevie Wonder can see that. Come on man...
There's either a ghost living the trash shoot or a serial killer in that building. Duhhhh
It's either the smiley faced killer struck again or the building has gone section eight!
have rev meeks at his next conversation with god to see what the heck is going on with this garbage chute!
Ban garbage chutes or have building tenants issued a GCOID card.
I used my garbage chute this morning and it's a pain in the ass to put a trash bag in it let alone accidentally fall in. I could see accidentally dropping keys down it, which would suck. But they've got a killer in the building.
Remember, third time is enemy action.
Who also lives there? Who works there?
We used to find a lot of body parts In the old Robert Taylor chutes.
Something smells fishy and its not the garbage. Someone nutty is living in that building.

No, statements from her family indicate she was as sharp as a tac. And I know more than a few persons with Down Syndrome who have more on the ball than half of our exempt staff, and certainly more pleasant to be around. Look closer.
This is bullshit, the infirm and elderly.......sounds like the black plague.
Ban garbage Chutes!
My first thoughts, too. If it were really that easy to go down these things, it'd happen more often. I'd love to know how close the floors were between the two deaths and/or if any of the staff on hand during the first were on the clock during the second.
capt obvious says>>>
we have a killer in the building
I'd suggest the suspect is big enough and strong enough to pick up a struggling person and feed them head first into the narrow opening.
Also they would be someone everyone in the building knows and trusts. Someone who could walk up to the victim without arousing concern.

fucking hilarious!
xo says it's a death inv in progress hardy har har
I don't know. Supposedly this door is spring-loaded. A small person could lose their balance while trying to stuff things in there. Looks like a design flaw, not a creepy murderer roaming the halls.
Serial killer no doubt. I heard that a banana and an empty box of Capt. Crunch were also found on the scene. Det Kellogg is on it.
We have lived in Streeterville for the past 12 years. During that time, two individuals, an older woman and a younger man, died from jumping from either a window or a fire escape of the building at 215 E Chestnut. These incidents were also ruled "accidents" - in those cases, too, I think it was the Belmont group who performed the investigation. I believe that the police detectives should assess whether someone living or working at 1555 N Astor also lived or worked at 215 E Chestnut. The deaths in these two buildings are eerily similar.
As others have said, hard to hold the damn thing open and get a small bag of garbage in much less fall in accidentally. Heard the daughter say on the radio that her mother had been "compacted into a ball." If that was my mom, I'd be raising holy hell.
It won't count towards our numbers because it's an "innie"
I am a Firefighter on a the first due engine to that building. We have had a few "incinerator" fires there in recent time, during which we noticed that the doors to the trash chute is abnormally large. Nearly twice the size of most. As far as section 8 for that building, NO WAY IN HELL. The units in that building are all condo, at a cost of both of our pension shortfalls.
On another note, that stretch of State Parkway has more than its share of weird/mental people with more money than god.
FF HC, "tradition goes on"

You have never used one of these things, and yet, you have an opinion?!!
You sound like Oliver Stone in one of his re-writing history movies or a lawyer looking for the payout.
McNutjob said the weather had noting to do with the two trash chute deaths...and this time he was probably correct.

"An older woman and a younger man" at 215 Chestnut.
"An older woman and a younger man" at 1555 N Astor.
Someone choosing appropriate sacrifices to their own personal "god" here?
A sheep, a goat, then a chicken? A sheep, a goat, then a chicken?
Ensures success of corn crop, placates angry planets, etc.
Oh. It doesn't need to be "someone the victim knew and trusted." Someone stronger could just burst in the trash room behind them and attack. The door to the room closes behind them -- and they are right back out in a half-minute, walking away...
No one can move around day or night like "maintenance staff," know everyone in building...
???
Copy Cat.
It was on the last Police hating "Chicago Fire" episode-Exactly.
They really hate on the po-po on that show, and the hero is always CFD.Very true to life I guess.
AAAANNNNND the woman was obese. how does a fat woman just fall into that opening?

Hey Dildo! They described it pretty well on the news and in the papers. I'm sure you have an opinion about the ballerino and McStat but you've never met them, right?

I heard Mr. Mustard used a rope to drag her from the library to the trash chute after he hit her with a candlestick in the living room. Miss Plum saw the whole thing!
Breaking news will have full story posted later.
If the door was so big like the family said , why would she have to stuff anything thing down , it would just fall when put in. Also how large a bag of garbage does an 80 year old carry? My guess is not too large.
Those chutes arent that large and a body wouldnt tumble so it would be interesting to see if she went in head or feet first. Cant imagine someone putting two feet in the chute to push down a bag of garbage
Is that from drew peterson's house?
Nom Nom Nom. Redrum for sure.
Six years I lived on the 8th floor of a 1930's apartment building in Boston with HUGE garbage chutes that had dumbwaiter style doors (recessed, slide-up, waist-high).
Nobody- not even the children of non-english-speaking Cambodian boat people- ever had an accident or "almost" fell into it.
Someone's killing people, and the building management should install a few cameras.
