Police Gunfight in.....Roseland!

  • Chicago police exchanged gunfire with a person in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side early Thursday morning, according to authorities.

No officers were injured, but police said the gunman may have been wounded. He was still at large this morning.

The shooting happened around 12:50 a.m. as police responded to a 911 call about a group of people fighting and a man with a gun near 113th Street and Normal Avenue, police said.

Police were fired at and officers returned fire, Police News Affairs [...] said, citing early reports.

The shooting is the fourth time since Sunday morning that police have been fired upon or fired at suspects.
No police injured, bad guy might be bleeding out somewhere, and no innocent baseball teams caught in the crossfire.

No info on the rumor that Brooks High School is putting up a 12 foot wall of corrugated steel around it's ballpark in light of recent events.

Four police shootings in five days.

What we need is one (or more) of those surplus tanks the Army does not need. Any way the city can come up with a few million to purchase one? It certainly would be much more useful than another Daley park.

But..but...but the baseball game will have guards outside in yellow vests I've read recently. Don't know if they are armed guards though. The story on dnainfo.com did not say.

Too bad the mayor didn't support that Roseland Hospital right near there too. They need that.

Now we have to depend and hope that Rev. Jesse Jackson gets Quinn to give the Hospital the $7 million dollars it needs.

We got that $55 million dollar maggie park downtown though. What a racist organization this city has running it I'll tell you what. So many better places to spend that money and the mayor spends it on bullshit.

I don't believe this happened. I personally think that the person with the gun was turning his life around by waiting for the police to show up and he wanted to TURN IN the gun. The police mistakenly thought he was a bad guy. So in self defense the guy turning the gun in, accidentally discharged his weapon because he was unfamiliar with the working mechanisms of the gun. Now if he would have only taken that safety course the city offers he would have been ok.

Oh and he ran afterward because he was scared and ran home to get his eight grade graduation photo to the press as soon as possible. His grandmama was the mastermind behind this whole thing so she could get some tattoos, new Nikes and big screen TV for the 100 dollar weapon turn in.

Basically retirees have to understand unless there is an injunction or some other court action they will have no insurance effective 30 Jun 13. From the city's prospective they have included this by casually mentioning it in various mailings about health coverage. If nothing else retirees should begin the leg work researching alternatives to the city coverage. The VP of the pension board which is also the City Treasurer as much as said this at the pension board meeting on 30 Apr 13. This according to the president of the Dets Assoc. Sorry, I must disagree with this comment. I spent 34 years working in " ghetto" districts. 005,006,007,011. I found many fine people living there just trying to survive. Yes, more then their share of dickheads, drug and alcohol users, domestic abusers, young people who just dont give a shit about authority or school, but many fine people. You just dont come into contact with these fine people and there is a reason for that. I also found more then what I wanted to find in corrupt alderman, corrupt and racist police commanders ( yes black racists) who seemed to be on the side of the gangs who owned some of the large nightclubs and the alderpersons who also allowed corruption to continue. If these police commanders would have been aggressive in shutting down many of these bars and lounges and corrupt business, things would have been much better in these districts. I say try to keep a clear head about what you do and who you do it for. There are good people in these districts, maybe they dont speak out, they sure are afraid, but they need good cops to help them. Maybe they dont have the clear cut social values that you have or the education or the finances, but they sure could use the help and will continue to need the help.

Amen brother. I grew up in Englewood and I was living there when my old man became the police. The kids played with me but their slightly older brothers/cousins hated my pops and would spit on his car and dent it rocks when he wasn't around. I grew up in Englewood, going to Lutheran school, and playing AYSO soccer in the summers. Then I end up following dad and becoming the police myself. You will lose when you treat all the people in ghetto districts the same. A lot of those kids are on a thin line where they can be on any side in ten years: hating the police and/or becoming the police. I always remember what it was like for me when I was a kid and how I thought about police. My dad was a cop but it didn't stop me from having a few unpleasant encounters with Chicago's finest but thank God for the officers that worked in my school and the ones I dealt with that turned out to be parents of my classmates etc. You can't peg the whole ghetto as the same but get mad when they peg all of us as the same. And if you ever LIVE in a ghetto district you can understand why they distrust police just like if they become police they understand why you distrust them. I come with an olive branch when possible but the rod is always on ready to follow up and finish the job that diplomacy cannot.

Email me and I will forward what I have, police@cxq.com

I sent SCC the .pdf files from Krislov law firm, for reasons not known to me, they chose not to post it on the blog site.

Krislov wants to file an injunction and is asking for donations to defray legal expenses. Krislov was the lawfirm that filed, and won, the Korshak decision.

They are the ONLY ones doing anything regarding health care for retireess and I agree with you, no one is doing anything except Krislov. They are the only ones who can represent us. FOP does not have standing. neither does Pension Board.

It is Krislov or nothing. So I will forward the info to whoever wants it. There is a letter from Krislov, an explanation, a letter of direction and a request to sent a check. he would like a war chest of $100,000 to help with legal expenses. Not too difficult considering there are 6,000 or so retirees.

So this appears to be the last gasp time, if Krislov fails to obtain an injunction we retirees will have ZERO health care coverage come July 1.

There is a possibility that those who are under a contract that specifies free health care until Medicare age might continue with their healh insurance, I don't know.

My wife has coverage from her job, otherwise I would be left with nothing.

This is no joke and is definitely a serious situation.

Do NOT depend on FOP or the Pension Board to handle things, they will not and cannot.

I will forward what I have, send an email to police@cxq.com

I will send back a .pdf file, print it out and make your decision.

Pension board must have something to do with the case. They pay like 12% of the monthly health premiums, the city 50% and the retiree the remaining. Because of that they have to be involved

There is absolutely too much crying on this job. If you can't handle working in the 'hood quit. You chose to be on CPD. You didn't choose Wilmette,Glencoe, Highland Park,or any place else. STFU and be the police

Says the officer in the ivory tower.

Says the officer who chose to take the job. If you think it's better someone else then go there. You sound like the proverbial domestic. Always calling the police ,but never leaves.

OK internet tough guy, I highly doubt you're the police. Get back in your mom's basement you fucking handjob. By the way troll, try proof reading or grammar correct before hitting send next time.

No they do not. They have no say whatsoever if health insurance stops or continues. They are waiting to see what the City does. Really. They are administrators only, not decision makers. They are not in court fighting. They cannot.

They are not involved. Pension Board told me to call Benefits Management for questions on retiree health care! That is the dumbest response I ever heard.

Do the research like I did and find out. You will be shocked, as I was.

Unless there is an injunction from the courts or Rahm decides to be a real nice fellow, those without contracual wording in the contract when they retired (over 60, 55 and out) will have no health insurance come July 1, 2013.

Get over yourself bikeboy. Common sense tactics. Nothing new in the art of war, just different toys.

5/02/2013 11:42:00 PM
Common sense tactics? Then why didnt you come up with this ? CPD was the first in the country to use this crowd control tactic which is now being copied world wide. I am not saying McCarthy thought it up, for I have no idea who did, but CPD is the first major city to use it. I guess haters like you just will never give credit where credit is due, except to yourself.

Amen brother. I grew up in Englewood and I was living there when my old man became the police. The kids played with me but their slightly older brothers/cousins hated :

I made the original comment. I am a retired cop, white who was born and raised in Englewood and saw it go down hill. I held a lot of anger for many years but education and working in these areas helped me to understand better what was going on. I blame the corrupt police commanders and alderman for much of what happened . Cant speak to the police commanders now as I am retired over 11 years. But, I sure can tell lots of stories of the black district commanders and dep chiefs on the south side back in my day and a few on the west side. I will repeat my comments: keep your head screwed on straight and keep a good perspective what what you are doing and the people who live in these shithole districts who need your help. As the 2nd commentator added, there are lots of young people who are on the edge of turning and maybe there is something you can do to help keep that from occuring. God Bless all of those who still roll out of the district parking lots every day, day after day. It takes a toll on you and you will realize that soon enough.
