Cleveland Debacle

Just caught wind of this one via some e-mails and comments. It seems they take culpability to the extreme in Cleveland, Ohio:
  • One Cleveland police sergeant was fired, two other supervisors were demoted, and nine were disciplined for their roles in a police chase and shooting on Nov. 29, authorities said today.

Sgt. Michael Donegan was fired because of "the gravity of your failure to execute your responsibilities as a sergeant of police for the city of Cleveland," said City Safety Director Martin Flask.

Flask, Mayor Frank G. Jackson and Police Chief Michael McGrath revealed the results of the administrative review for the 12 supervisors involved in the pursuit during a news conference this morning. The review did not address the use of deadly force. That review is currently being conducted by Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy McGinty.

Jackson said it was "not a pleasant duty" to issue the report on the shooting, and McGrath said the incident had an impact on the police department and community.

Officials have identified 104 police officers involved in the chase. McGrath will determine which should face administrative charges related to the incident.
Demotions? White shirts taking time? Firings? One-hundred-and-four involved officers, all currently under investigation? That's some heavy lifting there. Two people ended up dead and their car looked like Swiss cheese. Of course. the completely innocent don't lead police on a 30 minute chase and there were plenty of opportunities to ditch contraband during the incident, but the Cleveland PD is laying it all out there, even before the criminal trial comes up.

Blame everyone but the people that actually deserved to be blamed. The offenders. I always knew Cleveland was a shithole, but this proves it.

good for the city being out front about it, and dealing fairly with the bad judgement of its supervisory personnel.

people who accept jobs as supervisors and managers accept the extra pay and whatever other benefits go with the job and they have to accept the extra responsibility as well. when they screw up they should be held to account.

SCC, they are being discipline for not following their chase policy. Their chase policy is similar to ours. So, in that regard, you would have to be a complete dummy to chase a car that takes off on your for a minor/bull shit reason. Just give out a flash. The supervisor should have terminated the chase. Now he can go on an another chase; chasing after job applications.

Quality control and review is one thing. Head hunting is another.

I can't understand how 104 officers ALL made the wrong call. And the SGT getting fired for not supervising his officers when something like 10+ other supervisors are out there? Doesn't make sense to me.

This is the fantasy scenario for the joyful haters.

Accountability for The Police only, fuck cause and effect being put in motion by the actions of some mutts.

The coppers in Cleveland should Police strictly by the numbers and starve the powers that be into submission...

Its ohio people what else can we expect of them? Those officers will have their day in court. This is about leaders going out of their way to be more community friendly. Good for them, I hope criminals flock to that city and turn it into another cook county. This country is in great distress.

Um...wrong about what? We ventured no opinion on any of the event. None at all. And that's wrong? How, pray tell?

I think it's funny how people on here are saying the coppers should have "given a flash" or "shouldn't chase for BS".

First off, give a flash to who? 104 police officers were already involved. What is this "flash" going to do? It's the same moronic thinking that came up with Event #'s. How is any information going to physically stop a fleeing offender?

Second, I've heard chases get called off when the person committed a felony and was armed.

Here's the problem. Liberal thinking has polluted the minds of the masses. The police are the ones the make the offender run and everyone is allowed to sue for BS.

Liberals want us to do nothing. Unless they become the victim of course. Give them the service they deserve. Parkers parkers parkers

Didn't have to be there. They deliberately violated policy. What else does one need to know about the situation?

You do not get to do as you please even if you are a sgt.
