Monday = Tuesday
So Monday ended up with 2 dead and around 10 shot. What did Tuesday bring?
- Two men were killed and at least 10 people were injured in shootings across the city that started Tuesday evening and continued into this morning, according to police.
About 2:20 a.m., three assailants approached a 42-year-old man in a gangway and at least one of them opened fire, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
The man was struck multiple times and pronounced dead shortly after at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Earlier, about 10 p.m., a 35-year-old man was shot multiple times after an argument in the 900 block of North Long Avenue, Greer said.
The man fled partway down the street before collapsing, police said. He was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead, police and the medical examiner's office said.
Now G-Mac can insist that crime is "consistent."

Batten down the hatches boys and girls, it is going to be a rough ride.
In the vast majority of this city where civilized people live, crime is down and living conditions tolerable. While nobody can say it that way, it is all that really matters. I understand that you guys work in the areas that aren't, so it affects you personally. However, that is a career choice on your part. The daily body counts are getting old real fast.

Rahm Emanuel Says the Drop in Chicago's Homicide Rate is Sustainable. He's Wrong.
By Justin Peters | Posted Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at 3:15 PM
On Tuesday, the New York Times reported that there have been 34 percent fewer homicides in Chicago this year compared with last year—and that Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy are taking credit for the drop. The piece is balanced and thorough but hedges on saying whether or not the decline will last. While the Times might demur from stating the obvious, I won’t: The Chicago Police Department’s strategy here is not sustainable.
To the extent that the decline in the murder rate is attributable to police tactics, we can credit McCarthy’s decision earlier this year to flood several crime-ridden “impact zones” with hundreds of cops pulling overtime duty. Saturating high-crime areas with more cops does drop crime rates in the short term. But the overtime money in Chicago is almost gone—as the Times reports, Chicago has already spent $32 million of the year’s $38 million overtime budget.
While Emanuel tells the Times that “the city will find a way to pay” for the increased police presence, it’s hard to see where the money will come from. The CPD’s total budget for 2013 is about $1.25 billion. Of that, about $1.2 billion is devoted to personnel costs, and most of that goes to salaries, so Emanuel won’t find any budget latitude there. The remaining $50 million mostly goes to contractors—phone services, waste disposal—and supplies. Emanuel could maybe move some money over from those budget lines, but that’s not much cash to play with. And besides, robbing Sgt. Peter to pay Det. Paul is not a sustainable strategy.
The fact is that you can’t pay extended overtime indefinitely. It saps the budget and it makes cops overworked and tired. Once the money runs out—and it will run out—crime in Chicago is going to rise, either in the impact zones that are no longer being flooded with cops, or in other areas where budgets have been reduced to pay for cops in the impact zones.
It’s also not clear that the impact zone strategy is what’s responsible for the decline. The drop in Chicago’s murder rate correlates to an unseasonably cold winter and spring this year. Plenty of evidence indicates that crime rates tend to rise and fall along with the temperature—last year, Chicago Magazine’s Whet Moser offered six possible explanations for why this might be. 2012 was Chicago’s warmest year in 142 years; when the temperature rises in Chicago this year, I expect the murder rate to rise as well. Instead of chewing through the CPD’s overtime budget, maybe the city would be better off just buying everyone in the impact zones some air conditioners.
notaardWhen I was a kid, we used the word "gangway" all the time. Now it has a different meaning.
what a shame, shooting after shooting victim after victim...yep its safe to say we have alot of crime issues here in chicago, whats more bothering is when you have the short stack pimple dick mayor and supt. McIdiot lying about crime, numbers and homicides...no matter how you fucking slice it crime is at its highest. i wish somebody can step up to the podium and tell these two fucking idiots that they need to step down and get out of town, cause their stupid cut backs and retarded mission are making matters worse....citizen
OT - Hey guys, how much does each arrest cost in hours, processing, transport, legal, etc. Curious what this fine lady has cost our city.
crime is down!!!!! supt. Mcknowitall said so...LMAO!!!!
more missions more contact cards!!! come on damit!!!
They'll see your ten wounded and raise you another ten.
Terrorist strikes across Rahm's World-Class city of bullshit and no help from all those NSA phone records, net postings and emails that are being collected either.
Guess they haven't figured out the best way to leverage the carnage for personal gains yet eh? Or maybe they have?
No emotional tear-jerking stories about how any of these people might be someone some day because they did not perform for the king I guess.
Nor did any of the city cameras do anything to stop the mayhem, nor the gun restrictions, nor city gun registrations, nor the alleged 3,000 illegal guns taken off the streets (Can we get an independent audit on these crime numbers cuz the FBI doesn't even buy them)
Y'all got a lot money downtown from the taxpayers from it all and nothing to show for it.
But what the hell...these people are not even on the Obama, Rahm, Madigan, or Burke's, campaign contribution lists right?
Ten people shot. A couple of million dollars pissed away in just one night on first responders, lawyers, hospital ER rooms. detectives, judges, law clerks. etc..
My-oh-my just look at the cities GDP growth from those six-figured salaries. Raise more taxes and transfer the wealth that's what the shootings are good for. A tool used to transfer the wealth because nothing works better then saving "the children" then the creation of fear.
Play the victim while doing things that you know are proven failures to present an illusion of trying to do something. We know the plan. Use the violence as a tool to enhance ones scope of power. There will be another task force or initiative or hand selected committee set-up soon added to the payroll. Raise the taxes!! If they're hesitant to pay then stand back and ratchet up the fear until they do. March out "the children" to win the "hearts and minds"
We can only hope that more people turn off the main stream propaganda machines controlling the talking points and begin thinking for themselves and set the talking points instead. I mean look. with all the shit going on in this city, state, country what's the news? Gay marriage rights? Are you eff-ing kidding me? Roe vs Wade always makes a good distraction to pull that out again as does gun rights crap or how about immigration reform AGAIN.
Isn't it all just a cover up and diversion from the real issues like the banking frauds, the economic thefts, foreclosure abuses, the debt based economy ponzi scam requiring corporate tax break after tax break. Jobs, poverty, unemployment. Way more people affected there as compared to these splinter groups.
I can not wait for election time.
You guys say safe, the weather service is predicting bad weather today.

Anyone living in Beverly or Mt Greenwood try to buy something at Markland Hubbard on 99th St off of Longwood; a savage stuck a gun in the owner's face and robbed the place.

Yes, but not for the super transit station as intended. It will probably become a retail center, an underground mall. Sold to developer friends of the Daley family for $1.00.

You don't know what you're talking about.
We don't live in areas where crime is down. Crime isn't down; stop buying into the spin-doctor's lies.
What is down is crime-reporting. Once people learn 911 won't send a car when their garage was just broken into, when their neighbor just threatened them, when the lawn furniture was just stolen, they stop calling and reporting it.
As for us making a career choice to work in the trashed areas of the City, you couldn't be more wrong. Emanuel is hiring so few police, our numbers are going down each month. No new police, no seniority to move to 'better' districts. No opening up of bidding to those better districts equals no opportunity to escape the worst assignments.
Please don't comment on what you don't begin to understand.

Hey SCC,
Did you see the episode last week of the HBO series "Vice?" It's a half hour news program that profiles dangerous, illegal behavior around the world. The show is split into two parts and the first half of the show this week is about the gang problem in Chicago, specifically related to guns. The show takes a pretty liberal look at the gang problem in Chicago, but it's worth watching. It can be seen on HBO's website, but it's also on Youtube. Here's the link:

Why? You probably won't vote. In fact, most cops aren't even registered to vote. Cops can safely be disregarded as an effective voting force. I tried registering police to vote through two election cycles. you know how many I got? Zero. Cops have the twisted idea that registering to vote will get them on the jury duty list.
11:04 AM
It was a unarmed M/1 BURGLAR, not an armed robber. No school was on lockdown to CPD knowledge.

Pure conjecture. But keep spreading these nonsense lies.
Maybe you can't register us to vote because we have the twisted idea we'll be prosecuted if we register TWICE to vote. (btw: No one cares if they called for jury duty; the minute the judge hears we're police, they offer to cut us loose.)

SCC,
Enough is enough. This fraud Bartusch is embarrassing us each time she opens her mouth. She has been working for Motorola and has been granted a leave of absence for over a year while other police officers were told to resign or return. What gives her the right for special treatment and what right does she have representing CPD? How about a special thread to get to the bottom of this? She was on nation wide TV show "Tactical Elite Unit" and couldn't even use a shotgun. This is just pure embarrassment four CPD. She has been on Fox News calling herself SWAT trained and telling the citizens that the City of Chicago is ready for a terrorist incident. She has been calling herself a Anti Terrorist expert. Pure disgust for all woman wearing a badge. Why is Tracy Ladner having different rules for police officers on a Leave of Absence?
