Meanwhile....

While McLookAtMe was touting the 13% reduction in crime, Englewood, Woodlawn, and Uptown made him look a little foolish during a two hour span:
  • At least nine people were wounded by gunfire in separate shootings during a bloody two hours across the city Monday afternoon.

A group of five people was shot just before 5 p.m. during a possible drive-by attack in the 5700 block of South Sangamon Avenue, Chicago Police said.

  • Earlier, a man and woman were wounded in an Uptown neighborhood shooting.

  • Just before 3 p.m., a 16-year-old boy walking in the 8900 block of South Buffalo Avenue was shot in the left hand during a possible drive-by attack, police said. The boy was taken in good condition to Advocate Trinity Hospital.

About 2:50 p.m., paramedics took a male gunshot victim from the 7000 block of South Bishop Street to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, according to Fire Media Affairs.
A tenth victim was wounded later.  At last report, at least one of the shot persons expired and and a woman was found stabbed to death in the Avalon Park neighborhood.

On a Monday.

But crime is down. And it's going to be 88 degrees tomorrow.

A Stitch in Time Saves Nine.

Gonna have to take out loan by selling some more bonds soon. Those first responder and er bills just keep on mounting. What fines, fees and taxes are we gonna increase to pay the bondholders there interest?

Or maybe they'll just take it all out of the pensions.

No Cop Here - Was apartment hunting with one of those agencies on the North Side so we could be close to the wife's work. Told the agent absolutely no to uptown as we are aware of the highly concentrated population of those in poverty, ill, in a gang, crack addicted, etc. He tried to sell us on the ongoing gentrification and "entertainment district" future. We just passed the scene of the shooting moments before it occurred and then asked to be taken back to the office so we could search on our own terms. When we were in the car we laughed and how torn we were 24hrs earlier in the car on the way in to the city about renting vs. buying given the prices and mortgage rates. After all that we experienced in a matter of an hour we really don't plan on staying much longer then a year since we are going to have kids and we refuse to compromise on their safety and well being.

Long story short I missed my hometown terribly despite my gut instinct that the negatives outweighed the positives and that is why I accepted this transfer. If it wasn't for the harsh financial penalties of breaching my contract we would change our mind and back out. Should have known better but the silver lining is that it is a twelve month position and then I have the opportunity to go back to my adopted home where my future kids can ride bikes without fear of catching a stray piece of lead.

On the bright side both my wife and myself were in awe of how quickly and completely CPD responded to the scene. As much as I hate what my hometown has become I was proud to see the bravery of the men and women who form the backbone of the city. Thank you for what you all do every day and every night.

Has anyone tracked the number of times McLiar held a press conference touting a reduction in crime that was followed within hours or less by an uptick in violent crime?

In addition to McShootTheLightsOut's comments, yesterday was the "A Day of Peace" social media campaign.

http://www.redeyechicago.com/news/local/redeye-a-day-of-peace-in-chicago-20130610,0,707097.story

Seems as if some thugs didn't see that message appear on their Facebook wall or Twitter feed. Whoops.

Im so glad the most strict gun control laws(which are illegal in themselves) are working. If you're happy with the news you read everyday about things like this and OUR governor and Attorney General wasting more tax payers money on denying you of your Constitutional rights, then put your head back in the sand. Nothing to see here move along. But if not, remember YOU can use the rights that haven't been taken from you on ELECTION DAY!

To No Cop Here, my advice? Get out of uptown, and the city for that matter. Alderman Cappleman never bothered to chime in when consolidation was happening between 2 districts. He has no problem calling the commander, however, like he's his personal Pinkerton Agent. Lives to complain about drinkers at this corner or group of bangers hanging out on this corner, etc. etc. Doesn't ask why there are at least 3 beat cars down on 1st watch every night. Never asks at council meetings when is my ward going to get the man power back that has been stripped to dangerous levels!!

That Weiss plaza strip mall is utter shit. If it's not bangers, it's Lawrence House junkies insisting that you part with your money just because they want it.
It is really hard not to do more than just tell them to fuck off.
