Shots Fired in Pullman

  • Chicago police officers arrested a man after they drove into a gunfight in the Far South Side's West Pullman neighborhood Monday night, authorities said.

About 8:35 p.m., officers driving in an unmarked car witnessed an exchange of gunfire near the intersection of 118th Street and South Stewart Avenue, said Patrick Camden, a spokesman for the Fraternal Order of Police.

After stopping their vehicle, officers left on foot and chased a man holding a gun, Camden said. At one point, the man turned and pointed the gun at police, drawing fire from at least one officer, Camden said.

The man was not struck and was taken into custody shortly after in a nearby backyard, Camden said.
Then the Orange One gets in a hell of a zinger:
  • "I know [officials say] crime is down, but in this one little part of the city, it doesn’t seem to be down," Camden said. "Nor does it seem to be down in Englewood or anywhere else in this city.
Wow. That's a pretty good broadside at his former employers on behalf of the boys and girls working the street. Very nicely played Pat. Let's see if there's any response forthcoming from the city or the Department.

"Shots NOT fired in PULLMAN".

Pullman is a small historic district that has State, City, And Federal Landmark status and is miles away from 118th & Stewart. Crime there is minimal. It's one city block from Calumet Area 2 and the 5th District. Coppers walk to work from their homes in Pullman.

This is not nitpicking. Pullman Is Pullman; not Roseland, not West Pullman, or Rosemore or Gano. It's held itself together for 50 years since the 60's white flight that ruined the areas across the I.C. tracks. It's not Utopia but it doesn't deserve to be lumped in with the train wreck to the West.
