Sun Times Continues Dredging
- Over the past seven years, Chicago police Officer Richard A. Rizzo has been arrested four times by fellow members of his department. The charges included domestic battery, child endangerment and aggravated assault with a gun.
Each time, officers booked Rizzo and took his mugshot. Each time, prosecutors filed criminal charges against him.
And each time, prosecutors ended up dropping the charges against the 15-year police veteran.
So do they expose the clout? Nope.
They bring up four more officers who seem to have scandal following them regularly, but never say a word about how they are protected by the political class. In Callahan's case, his wife was working for the governor (Blago we think) for years and that made him untouchable. How about the reporters hang the clout out to twist in the wind? Or would that burn too many bridges?

Every District, every Unit, there is one or two that are untouchable. They get away with things you and I would get fired for (rightfully). Some of them have clout we know. some we just surmise.
It's our own fault, though. We know them, but we still talk to them at roll call. We still have lunch with them. We still shoot the breeze with them. We are our own worst enemy. Isolate them. Treat them like a big steaming pile of dog crap. It's the only thing WE can do.

It's like the piece Dane Placko did on Fox32 the other night. Dumping on the murdering firefighter serving life in prison and still collecting his pension (totally legal by the way, not that I agree) but had to tie in the FF's daughter who is a cop and handling his finances.
The FF has been collecting the pension for close to 20 years and the news media is just getting around to finding out and decrying the injustice of it all.

Clout comes from different tribes in Chicago. Rizzo most certainly from the Mob. The Irish always in first place. Hispanics have their clout. The Polish have their own and the list goes on and on. We all know who the clout babies are.
And there isn't a clout system at the Sun Times. Reporters and staffers getting the goodies because of who they are and perhaps their nationality. Clout is everywhere.

He never takes the blame. I've seen his act before. He will blame PO's. Just watch. In 018 he blamed a previous watch and two PO's for a shooting at 1130 N Burling that took place three hours after the PO's went home.

I do not understand how the media can live with themselves when they fabricate half stories. Do they do this in their personal lives with their families and friends? Are they so used to simply speaking half-truths that they accept it as normal behavior?

Someone told me that if the police do something wrong, they should lose their pension! What? There are rules governing retirement earning of the police on pensions, but my so called "friend" thinks otherwise.

Not a cop, but I have a handheld radio I sometimes turn on when I'm out for a drive, usually on Zone 3, where I live. As I approached Ashland, I heard a call to officers in 012 to start blocking off Ashland to prepare for the ambulance to come through taking a 009 officer to Stroger. I was sitting at 21 and Ashland...I don't know if it was the right thing to do as a citizen, but I got out and saluted the procession. Just felt like the thing to do, I guess. A few cars honked so hopefully it was appreciated.

He/she/it admitted going out to the car to move it at 9:05 a.m. He/she/it was saddened no one-on-one bonding could occur with the officer who issued the ticket...THAT appears to be the point.
