Arizona Disaster

  • A fast-moving wildfire killed 19 firefighters Sunday afternoon after the blaze raced through an Arizona community, a state forestry official told The Associated Press.

Forestry spokesman Art Morrison said the firefighters were caught by the fire near the central Arizona town of Yarnell about 85 miles northwest of Phoenix. He said the firefighters were forced to deploy their fire shelters, tent-like structures meant to shield firefighters from flames and heat.

Prayers and condolences for the fallen.

I've visited Prescott (pronounced PRESS-kit; rhymes with biscuit). Great town midway between Sedona and Phoenix. I'm considering retiring to Prescott.

May God bless the fallen firefighters and their loved ones.

Wildland fire.
Record or near record temps + strong shifting winds + low humidity + large fuel load = disaster.
The town of Prescott, AZ is devastated as all of the guys lived and worked there. They were a top notch crew - not FNGs.

RIP Brothers.

Seeing the parents, the children, the young widows on television is just heartbreaking. They speak with such pride and love for their lost dads and brothers and sons.

It's obvious a lot of fine, promising young people left this earth that day. May their families find some peace.
