Cancel the Pride Parade?
They canceled the Southside Irish Parade for far less than what this event has turned into:
- Wow no comments on the absolute mayhem that was the "Pride" celebration yesterday? Way out of control all day and way into the wee hours of the morning. Cars from all over the city had to be called in to help try and get it under control. Probably more than 40 arrests Not even a peep on the news either. God forbid they report what's really happening. I guess it's easier to continue to trash Paula Deen daily, than report how out of control the gay community and that shit show that is the Pride Parade really is. What say you media? We know you get most of your stories from this blog so investigate.
- I agree. We were there and it was off the hook- they let all these fools take over the streets until the dc called for the outside units. Very poor planning and unprepared to say the least. The parade has become trashier and more ghetto with each year. There are few events worth attending anymore here, mainly due to the influx of ill mannered, criminally inclined mobs of government supported leeches that infest each event. Even with the outside units there, it was painfully evident how short manpower was. This place is running on borrowed time.
When you have to call in Incident Teams and Tact Teams from a dozen different districts, we're pretty sure that qualifies as an "out-of-control" event and the hammer needs to be brought down on everyone involved. Because if there is ever a day that someone ends up maimed or worse, who's going to pay the piper?

The Pride Parade has been OUT OF CONTROL for at least the last 3 or 4 years. An EMS console is set up and dedicated strictly for this event. Paramedics are beat up every year. The mayhem goes on from hours before the parade even steps off, until the wee hours of the morning.

I wouldn't say the gay community is out of control, but some elements of the black community that travel to the north side for this event clearly are.
My impression is that most of those Folks or People are out looking for trouble and looking to make trouble. My impression is that few are actually gay; although, a stint at County or downstate might change that a bit.

Add in the white frat boys and sorority types that seem to view the parade as an excuse to act like idiots and the whole area was a giant mess on Sunday.
It was also clearly an underpoliced event. Since it's unlikely that the parade will be cancelled next year I suggest our glorious leaders take the following steps.
1. Station foot patrol officers in front of and at each CTA station that services parade goers. That would be Diversey, Belmont, Addison, Sheridan and even Wilson. Both sides of the platform.
2. Foot patrol officers on each side of the street for every block of the main streets.
3. Enhanced bike patrols. Too much congestion to get anywhere quickly in vehicles.
4. Did I mention bicycle patrols.
5. More cops and paramedics and months of planning should be done to have the businesses bring in extra oversized private security types.
6. In the spirit of the Gettysburg 150th anniversary I suggest B A Y O N E T S! Let McSquirrely lead a charge down Belmont to retake Halsted next year. Then he can hang out in one of the lesbian bars afterwards and try to pick up ladies.
I gotta pay for that type of action, but I suspect that our own version of General Patton could get it for free!

Being a resident in Beverly, I can say that our southside neighborhood will not tolerate the type of behavior that ended up getting the ss parade cancelled a few years ago. It was never near as bad as any of the other major parades in the city, but if you let the little things go, people begin to see that they can get away with being assholes. What's tolerated in certain areas by certain people is why those areas are complete shit and have no values (also known as Chicago values). Did you see the HBO documentary Chi-raq it aired early june.? now if you saw it, picture the thugs in that documentary kissing, that's what it was like sunday night into Monday morning.
Having been going to Pride off and on since 1995, it's my opinion that the North Halsted Merchant's Association is just trying to milk the event for all its worth. It was even more evident this year when they split the street fest from the parade over two weekends. Sadly, they'll never go willingly along with moving the parade downtown. They'd lose too much money.
This event has turned into less about the gay community, and more about out of community elements using it as an excuse for drunk lunancy and soft targeting for crimes of opportunity.
All that being said... I appreciate CPD's efforts in trying to keeping this event/area safe. I know it's not an event some of you would prefer working.

Worked this a few years ago. It was out of control people kept going out into street and a guy got run over by a float. Yuppies had their 6/7 year old kids with them to take in the "pride" of the LBGT community. Apparently pride means staying up on meth for three days getting shitfaced and running around nude in a stupor. 6 & 7 year old kids watching a guy wearing only beads with his dong hanging out...also a lesbian couple with matching homemade shirt that had the word CUNT in huge letters??WTF?? Why would you ever bring kids to this event?

I have never seen more rude behavior on the LSD bike path than that displayed by the rainbow-wearing queers on Sunday - ESPECIALLY the blacks. Walking down the wrong lane, walking down both lanes, standing in the middle of the lanes, not paying attention to anyone around them. I played with fire, speeding up to go around them instead of driving defensively and slowing down, and it eventually bit me - one of the she-beasts was in the middle of the passing lane, I attempted to pass it on the left, and it moved right in front of me as I was passing. BOOM! Crashed right into it. Got knocked off my bike, but the she-beast got the worst of it. Luckily I was so far left that I landed in the dirt instead of on the concrete.
As I was getting up, I told the beast to "stay in your own fucking lane." It responded with "don't talk to down to me, I'll beat your ass." Seriously? What kind of "woman" actually says something like that to anyone?
I posted this on Crimes in Wrigleyville & Boystown-the parade needs to be moved downtown and have a controlled after party at Hutchinson Field from 4pm til 9pm.
The after party is free but it has limited entry points.
Businesses along both the original
parade route and newest route may set up booths to sell beverages, food, and merchandise.
Any other business wishing to participate would pay $100 for a booth.
Those wishing to drink alcohol would get a free wristband that could be sponsored to generate revenue.
I think this revamp would go a long way into protecting both people and the neighborhood.
How about this: just like the south side parade does how about making the parade committee pay for security?
I love how its ok for coppers in full uniform and on duty to walk in this parade. Some of these videos have the coppers on the floats with radios so I assume they are on duty. Imagine how quickly the department and public would crucify an officer if he/she walked like that during the south side Irish parade. I understand the pride, but if you are on duty, act professional, and not be on a float. We can take pictures wth the cup but be on a float all you want

This so called parade should head west on belmont right to the Chicago river where it belongs. We were so short on manpower for the size of the crowd it isnt even funny. Our 019 XO was on furlo and the commander is clueless. You should see the crazy rant he sent out the day after to the supervisors which doesn't show how short we are or how many special people we have here. Commander how about looking at the work sheets on any given weekend they average 3 to 4 cars down and wagons as beat cars. Commander how about looking at your caps office which has 7 POs and a Sgt and putting them on the street when needed and not a secret car that the dispatcher doesn't know it exists. Commander how about looking at your school car when all our schools are closed and she has sat/sun off. Commander start looking the Tact team and put them on beats as needed. 019 has no rapids anymore and during the summer we need all the cars we can. we are in a rap every friday and sat night.

They have laws about decency yet they can expose genitalia with out a flutter, even on a normal day do young and I will say ignorant lemmings pass each day with their kids to store fronts and shops, exposing dildos, penises and sexual artifact, nearby schools and synagogues, but we have to be accepting to them and the religious and political clients that assimilate with this.......hypocrites.

I may not work it next year but my advice if I do is .... Just let it happen...if somebody decides to fight..let them if the mayhem happens and you can minimalize it so a copper doesn't get hurt, let them beat the crap out of each other ....well just take the report.
