"Rule of Nine" Again
- Two people have been killed and 20 wounded in shootings across the city since Friday night.
In the most recent shooting, a mother and her 2-year-old son were injured Sunday night in the West Englewood neighborhood.
We even had the obligatory minor child under the age of 7 catching lead.

The civil rights activist was in town to speak about a new youth mentoring program in Chicago and to talk about the upcoming 50th anniversary of the march on Washington.
Sharpton says he plans to collaborate with community leaders and pastors in their anti-violence efforts—much like Martin Luther King Jr did during his stay in Chicago.
MLK Jr was in Chicago to protest denial of basic civil rights to the African American community by the establishment. This time around, the establishment doesn't seem to be the problem - will Sharpton address that which seems to actually be the problem? We highly doubt it.

The article fails to say how much this will cost taxpayers. Al and the Revs don't work for free. Someplace in there is a federal subsidy. Like Big "O" using our tax dollars to the tune of 9Bil to make sure South Africans can get electric.

The weekend ended with 2 dead and an additional 27 wounded. Last weekend had 7 dead and 30 wounded. No reporting anywhere on the absolute mayhem in and around Boystown last night, post pride parade.
June ended with 45 homicides (barring any late expirations) plus 224 more wounded. Last June there were 47 homicides and June 2011 had 46. No news stories yet on how crime is down by a rounding error.
Finally, 2013 is exactly where 2011 was at this point, 194 homicides. 2012 being an outlier year was at a staggering 260 at this point.
We all know that this year hasn’t been too hot yet and we’ve gotten more rain in 6 months than we did all last year.

Well what have you heard/read? My thoughts were that it always was a symbolic move, number one (remember Jane Byrne living in Cabrini Green, To Dart staying the night at 26th & Cal or my fave McCarthy going through the academy). Two, he was killed in 68. His last few years he started talking about jobs and housing, not voting and seats on the bus. Remember he was in Memphis dealing with labor rights for black men when he was killed.

it actually means that murders are occurring during 25% of each week and that overall crimes are, on average, being committed during 14% of each hour.

But they don't fund it to the level of corruption found in a state like, oh, Illinois. Sure property taxes are higher but not that high. They just don't have the shit politicians we have here stealing every goddamn thing and there are no Cellini types stealing to pave the highways and everything else.
Property tax may be high in New Hampshire, but there aren’t many other taxes, so the overall tax burden is pretty low.
For example, in Chicago, total taxes (state, county and city) on one pack of cigarettes is $6.67. In New Hampshire there is $1.68 in taxes on one pack of cigarettes. Not a typo.
There are no taxes on retirement income in New Hampshire. Quinn will start taxing retirement income here as soon as he can get away with it politically.
From what I've seen, Chicago's violence is already in the national spotlight, much to Rahm's chagrin. We're getting the necessary publicity just fine without Sharpton. He should stay in New York where the Bloomberg hand that feeds him is.

I was at the Gay Pride Parade. One million people showed up. There were so many people congested to an area. When you have that many people sure people will act up. 40 arrests and you are saying it was out of control? Get a life. I walked up and down the streets and up and down the alleys, I didn't see fights or violence. A scuffle yes, but nothing serious. Yet you are crying about this event?

I agree. We were there and it was off the hook- they let all these fools take over the streets until the dc called for the outside units. Very poor planning and unprepared to say the least. The parade has become trashier and more ghetto with each year. There are few events worth attending anymore here, mainly due to the influx of ill mannered, criminally inclined mobs of government supported leeches that infest each event. Even with the outside units there, it was painfully evident how short manpower was. This place is running on borrowed time.
