Where's the Outrage?
- Relatives recall Gizzell Kiara Ford as a smart, mature and respectful 8-year-old girl.
Prosecutors said today her grandmother, Helen M. Ford, 51, of the 5200 block of West Adams Street, inflicted so many injuries on the girl over a long enough period and neglected her so badly that before she died Friday, Gizzell had maggots living in a head injury that had spread to another part of her scalp.
Ford cried today as prosecutors detailed the girl's injuries to Criminal Court Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. and the judge set no bail for the murder charge against the woman.
Meanwhile, her other family members are struggling with anger, pain and disbelief, said Gizzell's uncle, Osvaldo J. Mercado of Schiller Park.
"Everybody is in shock," said Mercado, 30.
You're shocked? We're appalled, and that's a pretty rare emotion for us considering our job. But once again, the silence speaks volumes. And the message isn't one that the community is willing to face up to. Thank goodness Sharpton will be here soon.

Has no relative ever visited this little girl at grandmas house? Has no neighbor ever seen this little girl playing outside? I assume the little girl attended school - and no teacher or aide or parent noticed the little girl in bad condition? But now everyone in the family is shocked this long term abuse has been occurring? Its not just grandmas fault here.

The article doesn't begin to describe this poor child's suffering. WHat I don't understand is why the family didn't keep pushing to see this poor baby! All the bullshit excuses granny came up with should have been a red flag!! At the very least, call the police and ask them to meet you at the house for a well being check!
So where was mom, dad, dcfs, teachers and of course all of the shocked "other family members" when this poor child was being basically tortured over such a long period of time?! A breakdown in a system that never worked from the start.
school's been out a month...injuries sustained over a long period...no one at school noticed? and if she wasn't in school no follow-up by CPS....very sad that she couldn't tell a teacher or counselor she was being abused..

He was a moderate build, goatee wearing white guy when the shooting occurred. By trial time, he was a chunky, out of shape porky that classified himself as Hispanic. Both of them had identity changes. In the beginning, Martin was a cute innocent bright eyed kid and Zimmerman was an obnoxious, overzealous cop wannabee who had his own run ins with police. By the end, Martin was a weed smoking young thug and Zimmerman was a fat geeky dude that looked afraid of his own shadow.

Where was this little girl's rights...Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness? Aren't Grams and Families to safe guard and protect and love their little 8 year old children? Actually I have seen live maggots eating the top of a live person's head before. Man was a Brazer living in an illegal basement apartment in Pilsen. he actually walked to the awaiting ambulance. He was afraid to go to a hospital because he thought they would deport him and he'd loose a days work. He stunk so bad that his roommates couldn't take it anymore so they waved down a passing Police car.

during trial I thought they said there was no way trayyvon could have known Zimmerman had a gun because his leg was blocking location of gun

You bring up a good point. I see all the celebrities, black layers and organizers saying what do they say to their sons as this could happen to them. Whats so funny about this is that it is one incident in the state of Florida and now every black "child" is in fear of being shot. How many black kids have been shot in Chicago in the last month? It's me, Judy from Alpha Girls, As you now all know 10 of us were out on Saturday night downtown in force.
The citizens and tourist told us that there should be more of us so they can feel safe like they were when we deployed.
Alpha Girls will be training PPO' again on our own time behind the T.D. after classes. All these girls are wearing their AG tee shirts and working up a real sweat.
We have not found one male that can meet out goals of total commitment. Sad but true, us "AG" are a breed from the norm. For this we thank our founder and CEO.
Sorry guys, all out rifle trining are booked until June 2014. Drop a deposit and maybe we can work you in next winter if it is not to cold for you men !

In the light of horror this laughter was welcomed.
Just the most horrible thing ever. Keep us posted on grandmas court dates. This is a woman that should never breathe fresh air again. Wouldn't doubt that she is let out to take care of her son who can't take care of himself. Sick. Protest any judge or attorney that allows a plea deal on this one. We need the death penalty back....yesterday!
Just had a great dream...
Somebody with some brains and balls decided to invoke mutual aid, called out a shitload of state troopers and burbs cops, and the streets were swept clean, block by block, neighborhood by neighborhood. A show of force the gangbangers and other miscellaneous vermin have never seen.
