Juvie Court ASA Resigns Followup

This pretty much sums up the comments over at the previous post:
  • So because she discovered evidence that rightfully exonerates these 8 children, she gets demoted and blasted on second city cop? Give me a break, guys.
Um....what evidence? What reports? What earth shattering event of misconduct or improper procedure can she shine a light on what should be a gigantic "scandal of the month" involving the CPD?

None. Just her word. And we're supposed to just take her word that she and she alone discovered an improper line-up, and the railroading of "...eight young black children..." because it comes wrapped up in a certain package, a package that is already making the rounds of the local political talk show circuit? That reeks of opportunism by itself.

Without any documents, reports or proof of her allegations. Without any other ASA's backing her story (they usually work in teams). Has any media even tried to locate the victims of that night? Or is this just another of those, "Paint the police in a bad light? Run with the story!" lazy reporting deals?

Sorry, still not buying it.

And remind us not to go around robbing banks with half the people making comments in the previous post.

Is it OK to rob banks with the other half of the people?

Just how much cash could be traced back to the druggangs that feed these braindead ASAs+JUDGEs+ALDERFOOLs+REVRUNs+STATE+FEDERAL REPs that have infested Illinois.100s of millions I'll bet, money better spent on more police. Hint, less crime = less lawyers, judges, etc.Perhaps a class-action suit charging collusion with drug dealing terrorist gangs could achive results!!!

Why was she on 'Chicago Tonight' with Carol Marin pushing the questions?

Lots more problems in this city than one who resigns from their current job.

Well of course any outfit that would murder 500 innocent peaceful black youths a year in the ghettos would easily be capable of something like this and the hilarious part about stories like this is that these nitwits always look to City Hall for justice when they are solely responsible for hiring any goof that would do something like this.

Truly amazing isn’t it ……..

Of course it isn’t really very funny is it because this kind of insane backward thinking really happens. There are such idiots in vast numbers walking the streets of our city right now and they are the privileged - favored members of society.

To the unpublished moron:

We didn't cost anyone anything. She resigned after being disciplined. We didn't do anything except raise a question as to why a case was dumped without explanation - you know, an explanation that would have helped police do a better job next time.

Anita and her people are playing politics. We called them on it. They reacted politically because they don't know any other way to do their jobs.

FOAD asshat.

I have a crazy question....If the person who was robbed said she did not see the attackers faces when she was attacked but after she was attacked she had a good look at the attackers as they ean and would be able to point them out or recognize them from behind couldn't they be asked to face away in the line up and be picked out that way? Just a curious question from someone who is not the police cuz I don't get why it's a big deal

So there are a bunch of comments with evidence of a criminal matter (which should be evident if the ASA didn't ant to be sued for Libel - since he/she isn't acting in the capacity of a State's Attorney for which she would be immune......Right? Oh wait...Haven't heard anything from the "Crook County Public Defender's Office;" must be legit...

I have a civil attorney who might take the case against the supposed past ASA who is accusing the officer without any evidence...Just saying.....

Seems to me that everyone is going out on a limb here. as pointed out.
Nobody else confirmed her allegations. So does this mean her office supervisor had no clue about this case until it was pretty much over with?
Either some body wandering around in daze, or somebody wasn't giving info about it
The tough for the dectives and cpd is facing a charge of conspiracy.
The easiest one to make and virtually impossible to defend. multiplied by the fact media regardless if its true or not are running with it as if was "God's lips Her ears" with out any documentation .

Both the victims and detectives acknowledged that the line-ups were of the offenders' backs. The ASA properly determined that this was insufficient to move the case forward. Sorry.

From the video of her first interview, the evidence was her interview of the victims. Also a review of video that showed other F/1s not who was arrested. If the case fell apart, it fell apart. It is what it is.
Sometimes victims recant their stories. Sometimes cops push cases that should never end on charging. Could this be an example of a little bit of both?

Well thats going to depend on what happens to our pensions we were promised. Tell me that after 30+ years that I'm only entitled to 10% while you still collect your politician pension and non-obama health care and you will see what a real crime wave is!

The only felony case an ASA will take on is one that involves a full voluntary confession from the offender on video tape- god forbid they actually have to prove someone is guilty, that would mean work. Imagine if the police department worked like that- the only time someone would ever go to jail is if the offender put the cuffs on himself and went to the station. Between this woman, the drunk one who got locked up for fighting at Taboo Taboo, and all these soft judges, you will never find justice here in this county if you are a real victim of a crime, god forbid.

Why all the hate towards this ASA? After reading the articles and watching the interviews, I did not get a sense that this ASA was blaming the CPD for the procedures followed for the lineup. Instead, she realizes that there is not enough concrete evidence against the teens, discussed with her supervisor and dropped the charges. It looks like the sole purpose of the media tour she is on is to expose the political nature of the CCSAO, really has nothing against the CPD, and the only reason the CPD was mentioned is because the "positive ID" by the victim was not really positive at all, and you can only imagine the field day a PD would have had if this case went to trial.

ASA approves charges -> ASA interviews victims -> ASA realizes the lineup was done in a way that she cannot prove positive ID -> ASA drops charges -> Second City Cop Blog writes about it -> the big shots at CCSAO says "OMG, this is BAD PRESS FOR US" freaks out, suspends the ASA for 3 days and demoted her (at the same time agreed with her behind the closed doors that there really isn't enough evidence to convict) -> ASA resigns -> Media tour to expose the political nature of the CCSAO begins -> The End

Guys, I was there that night.. The coppers who grabbed the bunch were thirsty to justify their existence downtown. The backwards show up that was allegedly conducted?? Yep. I was working Michigan ave detail and couldn't really believe my eyes. The coppers knew they were juvies and didn't have to deal with felony review and a real court system so the got 8 heads for robbery to make the bosses happy. The truth hurts just a little bit for some to realize the Asa was more than likely right...

Somewhere lost in this story is the fact that the states attorney in question is not the judge. Put the case on trial. Let the Judge hear the evidence and decide based on the stated facts what the course if action should be. That is what judges do; they decide.

Yeah, well, don't buy it but that actually is the way it is.
But it all worked out. The former ASA will do fine and not have to put up with bs like that anymore.
The pretender in Anita's office who did this will wind up paying. The clock on his sorry career is running because of this.
And now nobody can dispute the power of this blog.

That's new evidence and typically speaking, having a video of a crime is pretty reliable evidence.

They know where the platform cameras are. Wtf? You see them run off the train (or onto it depending on where the crime occurred) with their white throw shirts over their faces or heads. The best you get are details on pants, shoes, watches or arm/ hand tattoos.

The only faces you get are drunk white kids smoking, pissing or pushing and shoving.

All evidence issues aside, doesn't this case seem eerily familiar to the Dusty Smith case from recent news? You wont see that on on the news. Not on here either. Anita doesn't talk about it on 60 minutes. That ASA on felony review rejected a case on the advice of his supervisor, when he wanted to approve the felony. The guy goes out and kills the victims and he and his supervisor get suspended for a month, no pay. The SAO had to roll someome to save face, cause god forbid the chain of command actually works and a frontline ASA has discretion. He had no choice but to reject the case, and then he gets the blame. Approve it and get fired. Reject it and get suspended when shithead kills the victims. Approve it, shithead found guilty, turns out IDs were bad, wrongful conviction institute comes knocking on Anita's door, she throws her hands up the air all confused and flubs on national television, and then you get fired. "At will" truly does mean "at the will of the State's Attorney" (read: Dan Kirk). Hell, even he quit the office, and only came back when Anita was elected and promised him chief of staff after running her campaign.

There is no "right thing" in that office. There is the "don't get fired" thing.

I agree. All the Asa bashing on here is brutal.. Sure, some of them are complete morons but have you seen some of the geniuses we employ on this department???? But as usual, the same 100 or so people that comment everyday on this site are the same bitter and miserable dogs on this job. I know many Asa,s who are great people and have made sure the police are protected first before a case goes on.. I would rather get a molle at trial than a not guilty or no probable cause. I have friends who are Asa s and the are no different than any of us. The only problem is that 80 percent of our dept is filled with rubbers, whack jobs and the kids who got picked on in high school and all of a sudden think they are bad asses because they are the police now. It's the police ego and entitled attitude that gets us hated. Guess what, if you make an arrest then your job is done. It is then handled by the court system. The police are enforcement not prosecution and not the final word.. Too many coppers want to be the final word throughout the entire process when it is not our place to do so.. That's the ego thing kicking in thinking we are in charge of everything and everyone. Stop taking WORK so damn personal... Don't forget, there are better things at home when your tour is over. And if you get sued then so be it. Make mone in court and continue to do your Job.
