- Darien Police Chief Ernest Brown publicly denied allegations that he sexually assaulted and harassed an employee while serving as a commander with the Chicago Police Department.
Brown made the statement during an Aug. 5 Darien City Council meeting. The lawsuit was filed June 6. Brown made the comments after it was the subject of an article published by an Internet news provider.
"The allegations are false, 100 percent false," Brown told aldermen during the recent meeting. "I am embarrassed to even have to stand here and defend such ridiculous, such absolutely false accusations (against me)."
The lawsuit says the plaintiff, a police sergeant, was sexually assaulted, harassed and subjected to retaliatory actions in 2005 by her supervisor, Police Commander Ernie Brown. Brown became the Darien Police Chief in 2011.
The civil rights lawsuit does not name Brown as a defendant, though he is identified by name. It seeks compensation from the City of Chicago.
The City of Chicago is the "deep pocket" here. Ernie isn't even named as a defendant.
But why do these things keep popping up with Ernie's name on it? It's almost like there's a conspiracy against him.

The day before this NBC report, a CWB reader forwarded another Gold Coast condo board's email about the problem. We're publishing the email with identifying information removed.
I'm writing to you regarding some of the major concerns I have with the incidents that took place during the morning hours of Friday, August 2, 2013, which must be addressed immediately. I am the Property Manager for [property]. Our doorman reported that at 1:30am, a young male came into our building's lobby, telling the doorman that he is being chased.
He stated that he needs to hide in our building and get into the inner lobby to be let upstairs to the floors. The doorman told him that this is private property. He advised him that he needs to leave immediately. He then left our building. Shortly after his departure, he was mugged and violently beaten with a hammer by a group of male attackers in the street in front of the Jewel.
Our doorman had already called the police. An ambulance, the fire department and police cars arrived. [The doorman] reported that these men had clubs, as well as other weapons. That was the first incident.
The second incident occurred at approximately 4:05am. Four of these same males circled our building twice in an old, beat-up, white car. Our doorman was outside in front of the building, to look to see that all was well. They pulled up, stopped and looked at him.
Then, subsequently, they jumped out of the vehicle. They mugged two people who walked by our front entrance to the lobby. The doorman reported that a few others ran onto the scene, throwing punches. People scattered and ran in the direction of the Jewel. The doorman again called the police immediately.
An ambulance arrived. Thereafter, at approximately 4:21am, two of the men came back [and] picked up torn shirts and glasses from the ground from the earlier incident. They then came to the entrance to check out our lobby, as well as the doorman, staring at him through the window.
Our doorman was brave enough to tell them to leave our private property immediately. Then they left. All parties involved, including the person who was injured, seemed to be gang members.

When the doorman spoke to 911, they asked for his phone number, which he provided. No one ever called him back to see if he was alright. Further, the police never came back to talk to him to find out what he has witnessed. It is a major concern that the police department shows no interest in gathering facts to protect our community.
This is not the first incident that has occurred. Not too long ago, another midnight doorman reported that there was gang activity with beatings at Clark and Goethe.
I am very concerned for all of our residents, their guests and our night staff. I've managed the [property] for twenty two years. I have witnessed that the crime has increased tremendously over the past years in the area of Clark and Division. It is specifically bad on the corner by the Mark Twain Hotel and the new 7-11. The corner with Jewel parking lot has become particularly dangerous as well.
There have been many muggings, beatings and break-ins on Clark, LaSalle and in the immediate area.
We always hear in the media how much the Chicago police patrols have increased, including an improvement in the crime. Quite to the contrary, I have found that the crime in this area has actually gotten worse, not better....

I'm not a friend of Ernie Brown and only met the man once, BUT, why did it take this person 8 yrs to file a lawsuit?

I don't know how she can collect after so many years have passed, but it'll be interesting to watch. My incidents with him occurred back in 1995 and 1996. Complained to the boss, but he wouldn't do anything because Ernie was untouchable.
Maybe ernie is getting some kick back from the plaintiff. Interesting how ernie is accused yet the citizens will have to cover the bill.

Perhaps the people in this building should look into how they and their parents voted for the last fifty years. That may give them some insight as to the problem.

While it's true that EB could be termed a serial sexual harasser who was rarely if ever reeled in by the top CPD brass during his tenure here, the female sgt. that filed this lawsuit is a well known POS herself, who has been trying for many years to get a disability retirement without success. And c'mon Ernie, you're embarrassed to have to defend yourself to the Darien political players? This kind of allegation shouldn't even surprise them, if they did their homework before hiring you! Going to be real interesting how two serious game players cancel each other out in court.
The accuser in this case may actually have a worse reputation than Big Ernie. I'm not supporting Ernie, but if you know the accuser, you also know she is batshit! She's been in call back for years.

This Sgt is the same one who has been moved from district to district to callback to court because nobody wants her. She is a clouted insane person. She files CRs every single day and filed an EEOC beef against me for calling her the piece of shit she is. EEOC flopped just like most of the CRs she files. Certifiable.
He was one hell of a policeman on the street and took care of business, so why is it 8 years later, someone need a new car as the City always settles these for around 50K
I don't know why these police departments hire our command staff as police chiefs. Do they not see how crappy of a job they do running our police dept???? I am in no way sticking up for Ernie Brown. However, the female Sgt they re talking about is that goof piece of sht Sgt Moore from branch 50. You know the goof who shuts the door on you right at the click of 0900 and then deviates you for not showing up. The Sgt who doesn't allow you to sign in for your partner and then gets a cr number on you of you do. And, oh yeah, this only applies to white officers, not black ones. Goof

I saw a blurb last week where a commerce group in Chicago (I forgot its name) said that Chicago has about
ten years to fix its financial problems before we are Detroit number two. They also thought rahm is the guy to get it done.

Fact: The last 5 Superintendents promoted Retired Deputy Superintendent Ernest Brown. So are you saying that none of them did their homework or knew him as a police officer?
Fact: The Sergeant that made the allegation has made the same or similar allegations against Lieutenant W. who is at least 400 pounds and a two Sergeants.
Fact: The Sergeant that made the allegation has been on the medical more than she has been off for years, she has been light duty, convalescent duty etc. her whole career and has been trying to get a Disability Pension and make us pay for her being a piece of shit.
Fact: Look at her Area 2 history.
Fact: She has been bounced from Unit to Unit because no matter where she goes, she is disruptive. She has had a number of Sustained allegations for some level of her conduct and even has a rule 14 violation in her history, and the department has to fight this allegation! Get real!
EB is just easy prey and she knew it. She is just trying to get paid on our backs. Yes, if the city pays or decides not to fight due to the costs involved, this is coming out of the tax payers pockets!
This is really a sad case and unfortunate for the Deputy, but I must say he does have a history with the ladies, but he was also not married so he has every right to date. I am still trying to figure out why on earth he would pick her if he did. WTF
