If you're interested, and you should be, the charges filed against the FOP President regarding "the letter" not being filed despite repeated warnings to do so, will be heard by his own hand-picked committee this evening at 1700 hours.
Outrage to be vented shortly thereafter.

I know in most jobs when dealing with a coworker who is not taking your advice most people initiate a email paper trail. Where is that proof like an email of warning whivh then proves time and date of such warning Mark, Bill or Rich? So your telling me three very expetienced cops with over ten years of fop experience didn't think of documenting their warning? Rich runs fop website and didn't think to send of an email. Ummm thats because this warning didn't happen. Those three stood by and watched people get screwed so bill could run. Inexperience is understandable. However experience people looking out for themselves is not excusable. Where are those other charges carlos promised to bring on mark, rich and bill?
So now we will see if Mike Underwood is the stand up guy Shields is touting him to be or if he is just a shill being used to grab the retiree vote.
It will be interesting to see how the FOP board votes if this hand picked crew recommends only a slap on the wrist for a guy who has, at least for the moment, fucked us out of retro money and then lied through his teeth about it while keeping a straight face. How is the handpicked jury going to find him not guilty of something he already admiited-not sending the letter and then lieing about it? The President's oath of office says that if he is found guilty, the mandatory punishment is expulsion, but with appeals to the State FOP and also to the National FOP, Mikey will be voted out of office before he can be thrown of.

The hearing is a dog and pony show- Shields picked his sympathizers and probably has a deal in the works for them if they give him a pass. Can anyone take this organization seriously, I mean really? There is nothing legit about Cortez. Another guy like Angelo, who already had his chance at the FOP and did nothing with it. His financial troubles are legendary and I would not want him anywhere near our FOP funds. He is like the Mel Reynolds of the CPD.

Carlos and Bill Dougherty need to have a box off of three rounds.
Just a thought. I hear crying about being "fucked out of my retro". What retro. It seems every previous contract had the start date for raises pushed back six months during the first year. So this contract expired 30 June. Next one will expire 31 Dec. So retro is not a given.
Also, lets suppose after the new contract is crafted, the first year is no raise. The second year, 4% or whatever percentage you want, is put together to make up for the 1st year. And how long until there is a new contract? I'm betting 2015 at the earliest.

We get busy as officers with Court, family, side jobs just to get by yet out great FOP President makes a great salary, drives for free, gets tickets to every major concert, sports game for friends and family and he has plenty of great meals all over the city and other cities as well. Mike also has attempted to get a bill passed in Springfield on the sly which would allow him to retire with his current FOP salary regardless if he loses and goes back to patrol. Memebers please if you are able to after busting your butts just to get by with all your obligations attempt to stop by this hearing at FOP. Worked in Chaplains unit till he started to makes stink about not getting a new vehicle. They finally cut the cord with him cause he ready isn't do much as a chaplain.
Dean Angelo sr has a storied past with the FOP. He was a trustee ( re-elected several times)
Ask him what he did for patrolmen during those years.
And Angelo jr - what's he got 7-8 years on the job and 3 as a trustee at the hall.

1. Mark Donahue the past president had 3 conversations concerning the letter with Mikey. His fourth conversation was with his secretary, who Mikey has since fired because she nagged the fuck out him to send the letter she prepared after speaking with Donahue.
2. Rich Aguilar had a conversation with Mikey and Mikey told him the letter was taken care of.
3. Mikey told the membership at a general meeting 1 week before the letter was due that it was taken care of and its in the minutes of the meeting.

Mikey had one task to accomplish in his 3 year term and that was to get the letter in on time, if he had done that nobody would have known that he wasn't doing his job. I'm sure 35 years ago you guys would've dragged his ass out of his office and worked him over until he promised to resign. Today, everyone would end up in the penitentiary. But seriously, what are your suggestions for forcing Shields out of his seat and off the job. He has 15-16 years or so, what do you suggest be done to make him leave before he hits 20 and can collect a pension? Mike will retire shortly after he loses his FLOP pres spot, and he will get some nice gig in the corporate world as Director of Security for Boeing or something of that sort.. This is great. It is all about KABUKI. Everyone is all upset about the actions of certain people, the loss of retro and all the other nonsense. Meanwhile, if you read the papers-- Rahm and Cullerton are talking about Pension Reform.
Worry about a 3 or 4 thousand retro while your pension is being " reformed". Once again, not keeping the eye on the ball. Happens every contract. Does any FOP legislative person have any idea what Cullerton is proposing? Probably not because they are concerned with the " Retro". Unreal but so typical.

He acknowledges the letter at a General Meeting in Feb. and says he is going to send it, then doesn't it.
Let's not forget that a few months later, he fires his own secretary who writes her own letter also claiming she even reminded him about the letter.
When he gets called out on multiple occasions he lies and claims no one told him about it. Even though several FOP reps claim they did tell him about the letter.
Could all these people be intentionally lying? Give me a break!
He gets brought up on charges by the one member who actually had the balls to get off the blog and stand up for what is left of our union....and the Board of Directors allows him to hand pick his own committee?
Then the hearing mysteriously gets cancelled at the last minute and he is no where to be found when you call the FOP?
Don't believe me? Not sure who to trust? Swing by the FOP unexpectedly or call and ask for Shields.
Ask Shields yourself about the letter or the hearing and watch the snake squirm, that is IF you can get a hold of him.

He makes D-8 pay. That's a chief. I don't know what a chief makes, it could very well be $210k.
The rest of the minions are suppose to be making D-5 pay. Captains pay. Not sure how that translates into many of them making over $150k in 2010 according to tax filings, but what do I know.

At the last FOP meeting the unit Rep from 014 ( sp? merck I think)told shields that he needed to get a hold of his union by either taking a corporate retreat with the board or take time off because the boards working relationship with him had been destroyed. Maybe he took the advice?
Can't believe it. Forgot is no excuse in a life or death situation, I guess the union needs to evaluate the importance of a signature, he probably is the fall guy. Way to go!!!

The letter now sheds some real light on the escapades of Mikey and about sums up his performance since he took office. He told the board she was a great person and excellant secretary when he asked the board to hire her. When she tries help him send out the letter he fires her. It's about 5 minutes of reading but sheds some light on the real Mike Shields as told by her former secretary. Its my way or the highway! Stick a fork in this guy already. How many people do we have to hear from and how much damage will we allow him to inflict on us.

All the members know that the fop meetings are all recorded so whats the big deal here? That we got to listen to the recording and found out what really goes on with these overpaid clowns that are suppose to be acting on our behalf? Im glad we got to hear their shennigans. well I find it almost funny that all the outrage here about the charges and meeting yet not a single one of you even showed up to the meeting!!!
