The father -- identified as Rene Balbuena -- was responding to a Craigslist ad for a cellphone with his son about 7 p.m. Saturday, according to Los Angeles police Sgt. Rudy Alaniz.
Balbuena was there to buy a cellphone, Alaniz told NBC4 Sunday night.
The pair was sitting in a car at 92nd Street and Gramercy Place in South Los Angeles when two men -- believed to be those who posted the ad -- walked up and opened fire into the car, Alaniz said.

October 15, 2013 (SKOKIE, Ill.) (WLS) -- Keith Cozart, better known as Chief Keef, raps that he hates being sober. But a positive test for marijuana is sending the rapper to the Cook County Jail for 20 days.
Cozart, 18, was ordered to jail during a hearing at the Skokie Courthouse, according to Cook County Sheriff's office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari. Cozart turned 18 in August, and this is his first stint in the jail.
Cozart was required to undergo random drug testing following a May 27 arrest in Northfield for driving 110 mph in his black 2011 BMW on the Edens Expy.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and paid a $531 fine. He was also ordered to serve 18 months probation and complete 60 hours of community service, in addition to the random drug tests.
Cozart posted a picture of himself outside the courthouse on his Instagram account Tuesday morning: "OutSide Da Court House Turnning Myself In."
Keef has served time in juvenile detention for pointing a gun at Chicago police officers. He was sent back to juvenile detention earlier this year for a violation of his parole for handling a firearm in a promotional video.

They cry "racism" and "institutional racism". Recently the city council tried to pass a resolution for mandatory minimum sentences for any unlawful possession of a gun. The black alderman, all of them voted against it.
State Representative Monique Davis wants to pass a law that anytime officers use a taser, we have to do a statistical abstract study. She wants to know why more blacks get tasered than whites. She thinks officers disproportionally use tasers against minorities.
Black legislators are standing in the way. At the same time the Democratic Party is beholden to them. Anytime 90% of a certain demographic votes for you, you have to listen to what they say.

Chicago needs more officers for one, the judges of Cook County need to get tougher for two, and people need to talk about the elephant in the room: way more black gangbangers then either NY or LA. Chicago is 17th on the list of cities when you talk about violent crimes per capita, but #1 in total violent crimes. It is far more dangerous to live in 16 other American cities then Chicago. Then just look at the Carib region which has 10 times the American violent crime rate and a lot higher then Chicago. Did you know that the Jamacian police kill almost one criminal a day ?

3. Doesn't understand Chicago's criminal environment and it's causes let alone how to address same. (Failed strategies and completely ineffective use of resources)
4. Is only concerned with becoming a national policing expert rather than addressing Chicago's crime problem. (It's the Garry McCarthy show)
5. Is unable to message effectively internally or externally to the media. (Perception of crime and CPD's mission and direction)
6. Has absolutely no leadership ability or administrative skills. (Morale at its lowest ever and the organization in shambles)
His honor RE is supposed to be a sharp political operator yet he seems to have bought the crap this con man from NY has sold him. It's just a matter of time before this falls on RE's lap and the public starts to question RE's abilities.

I don't know, but call the phone number listed in the back of the letter or email you received. The exam starts at 9:30 AM and it's for 2.5 hours. So until 12 PM. I don't know why they would keep people any longer than necessary.

Was at Academy today for some BS training about an even bigger BS book that's supposed to make me a better supervisor when I over heard KM telling another Lt that she was getting star #9. That star belonged to a great supervisor and she is not worthy of even putting it on someone else for them!
If true, that's a slap in a lot of faces.
I haven't been to the Chuckie Cheese in Lincoln Park, but I went to a kid's birthday party at Chuckie Cheese in Arlington Heights last weekend. OMG, a hell of alot different than the one in Skokie. I'll gladly pay the extra gas to go to the AH one.

If the mayor's mouthpiece has any valid concerns about crime, police manpower levels, gang sizes, or the lack of resources inhibiting our response to public safety, he's forgotten that a leader needs to be able to voice those concerns to the public without fear of political reprise, that would be his job, and he owes it to those of us having to respect his title.
instead, as with everything in this town, from the u.s attorney, state and federal judges, the state's attorney, and the sheriff, it's all politics and no truth.
if all he came to do is parrot his boss' constant lipservice, why not save the money and eliminate the position altogether. Think about it, what has he done other than take to a podium and announce the next ineffective strategy week after week.
