DePaul Money only from Minorities

  • Protesters opposed to using controversial tax-increment financing to help fund a new DePaul University basketball arena confronted Dennis Holtschneider, the university’s president, as he addressed a luncheon of business and civic leaders near downtown Chicago on Monday.

A pair of protesters at the luncheon at Maggiano’s restaurant in River North suddenly stood up as Holtschneider was taking questions and shouted that DePaul’s agreement to be involved still comes at the cost of basic city services, and asked him to respond directly.

“The city and the African-American and Latino communities are footing the bill,” one protester said.
We've been as loud as anyone protesting this TIF money going to fund a privately run university, but if we knew it was only exploitative of minorities, we wouldn't have cared nearly as much. (/sarcasm off) Where do they find these idiots?

It took me so long to get the "(/sarcasm off)" line LOL! Well maybe only 45 seconds, but it felt like an eternity. You had me scared there for a moment SCC, I though I had to turn the Chicago off and turn the Chiraq on!

Look at it from their POV. Money going towards the stadium is money that is not going to enrich their lives and neighborhoods. To each according to his needs. From each according to his means. How many midnight basketball courts could that stadium money build?

They can be found at any Al Sharpton rally. The have been told they are being "kept down" their entire lives and you will never convince them otherwise.

Brainwashing from an early age keeps a healthy voting base. The new slavery.

Reverse racism is alive and well.

Who foots the police and fire protection bill in minority neighborhoods?

SCC, no offense but you took off your 'Liberal Logic Thinking Cap'(1) too soon and *missed* their point, i.e.: it's not about whose actually paying for DePaul's stadium, like hardworking taxpayers. Nope not even close.

Ya see, now that Rahm is ponying up these millions solely for DePaul he won't be able to fill up the colon of Chicago's Flying Pink Unicorn so it can poop $1,000 Dollar Bills of 'Free Money' in "the African-American and Latino communities" for the poor, *needy* people who live there. Oh, and for the children. We can't forget the children.

In short, they're being robbed of this money as it's 'rightfully theirs'. That's *how* they are "footing the bill".
(now my head's spinning too)

(1) now in colored Tinfoil, $2.99 roll @ Chi DNC HQ

Well, it's a smart strategy. You know the mayor and the other liberals that run the show don't give a damn about tax paying white people.

I think those "Idiots" are called Liberal Graduate Students from De Paul! Don't they understand that everything is for "The Children".

If it's government money, they're entitled to it. The government confiscates that money from the taxpayer to give to them.

Let's not forget all the tiff money being allocated to Loyola University. Public money going to Private entities that do not pay taxes. Hell, they were able to successfully acquire a public street (kenmore ave) to give them a more "campus feel". They've even been eating up entire city blocks of property, that no longer are required to pay taxes.

Or what about ANY of their Loyola vans that are used to transport Chicago students on Chicago streets, that don't pay their Chicago road tax (city sticker)? They're all registered to their Schaumburg satellite campus.

Must be nice to have the "non for profit" moniker.

Sorry but people are NOT looking at the full picture; they only want to point out Depaul; when in fact:

DePaul will use this facility 30 days a year, and putting in one-third of its cost and pay full rent every day we use it.

"Its a three-way partnership to try to move forward the goals of the (McCormick Place) convention center that wants to bring more conventions to the city; the city, which wants to improve and strengthen the economy, and DePaul University, which would love to have an arena for our sports team.

The urban areas of this country really need federal help in rebuilding. The urban areas are the magnet and mecca for the poor, unemployed, mentally ill and homeless. The cities cannot afford this forever. Cook County has the only public health hospital in the entire state. People come here for health care not only from Illinois but from surrounding states and the bill is footed by cook county tax payers. The same goes for just about every social service you can think of.

We are all in agreement here that tax revenue should never have been used to build that stadium, so all employed taxpayers of every color are being screwed.

When the United Center offered DePaul FREE use of their facility?

When McCormick Place can't draw enough interest as it is,, much less need an additional venue?

Who are you kidding? Rahm wants it for whatever nefarious reason he REALLY has. So, Rahm will once again whine, 'it's for the children' (the seven foot tall, about to be gazillionaire NBA players - those children). And Rahm will get what he wants, dammit, OR ELSE.

I just got an email asking a brilliant question.

Why do you always hear about Social Security going broke but you never hear about Welfare going broke? The peoplw who get Social Security worked for it, Welfare did not.

But ain't that a CITY issue? Not a DePaul issue....
