Hey Look - A Quota

And written down on paper no less. And signed:

So the 014 District now has to "justify" their tour of duty. And all time due, hours that you have earned for use at a later date, is denied completely without explanation.

The only thing missing here is a list of numbers that will "justify" your tour. And we're sure we'll be getting that letter just as soon as they issue it.

In the meantime, maybe someone in 014 can explain why the Field Lieutenant is pulling 5-hour days while everyone else is being denied used time that is owed to them by the Department? We're sensing some sort of double standard here....Bueller? Bueller?

If a few hundred of our readers could just forward this to the FOP, we're sure they'd appreciate the heads up.

This is what is wrong with bosses these days. They never did shit and got whatever they want because of clout and then when promoted too high...they have no clue about what an officer does. They whine cry and micromanage because they are lost and don't want to look incompetent. Shit may roll down hill but with never done nothing bosses you aint getting shit from us. Things have changed on the street. They want old school tactics as long as you don't get jammed up....well Fuck that.

Stupid bosses sometimes put stupid shit on paper demanding "activity."

Too fucking stupid to notice that the department hierarchy never will state what numbers constitute a "justified" tour of duty.

Desperation drives this stupid shit...

Any Policeman stupid enough to engage in quota driven Policing will be lynched from the tree of political expediency while their spouse and children are forced to watch.

This very lieutenant will be first to point, laugh and shit-talk about "Stupid-assed Blue Shirt should've known better."

Survival based Policing is driving these stupid bosses to doing crazy/desperate shit to justify THEIR tour of duty.

Someone didn't get the memo that meaningful Policing has been destroyed in Chicago.

Policemen have been reduced to armed "Rev'nuers" to generate quota based "activity" to be "justified" in their tour of duty so as to be "worthy" of additional time off in the face of being burned at both ends due to an intentional manpower shortage.

>Stands back... Admires work...<

This lieutenant is going to be feeling small and lonely when she has to sign over her assets and give up the keys to her house.

She is a nut job. She leaves early or comes late quite often. Someone told me that P.O.'s have been keeping track of a certain Lt. in a far north side district. I think it's time to start keeping track of this whack job for all of the early ducks she takes.

This is bullshit this double standard. I'll come in with zeros until you tell me what is the acceptable quota of work I am to bring in, otherwise, STF up.

So let's see here...Nothing in this memo say's anything about anybody having to produce any specific numbers otherwise known as a quota. It simply states that a very large proportion of the officers on the watch are doing NOTHING and that must change. Until that happens, officers will be forced to work almost the entire shift that the taxpayer is paying them to work. They are still 15 minutes short of working an entire tour of duty. Oh and if they show up late, they will have to drop a slip for the time they didn't work....What is unreasonable here?? Workers everywhere are expected to do the job for which they are being paid!!! Nobody is asking anybody to do anything illegal. Nobody is asking anybody to do anything for which they are not already being paid to do. The problem here is that for too fucking long supervisors on this job have allowed the tail to wag the dog and the lazy do nothings to infect the workers with their lazy good for nothing bad attitudes. I say it's about time somebody took steps to return this job to a semblance of a workplace and not someplace useless people come to do absolutely nothing.....Oh...but they will bitch if the beat car in 016 takes more than a few seconds to respond to their bullshit call about the neighbors do barking.

May I assume merit or Special Study Group alumna?

Because no one can really be soooooo fucking stupid to author such an asinine directive and then post it where the very people they're fucking can get their hands on it. Can they?

Of course they can! This is the Chicago Police Department where only the "best and brightest" lead what used to be THE premier law enforcement agency in the USA.

Garry, Rahm and the taxpaying people of Shitcago take note. THIS is what passes for "leadership" on the S.S. CPD.

THIS is just ONE of many reasons why a lot of coppers come to work and just go through the motions. Guys that used to take pride in the job and had no qualms about being proactive and wading into gray areas for the greater good used to only have to worry about "them".

Now, we have to contend with fucking imbeciles like Lt. Helen Zemek #526... just ONE of too many ignorant assholes promoted (by whatever means) beyond their intelligence and own abilities.

Now I know that a work action/slowdown can't lawfully be participated in by officers, but I have a much better suggestion to rock the boat and send this bitch a message that'll get through loud and clear...

Post one officer outside of Shakespeare to capture Zemek on film leaving early, and another outside her residence to immortalize her on film arriving home early on the clock.

Do a little surveillance to see if she parks on the street or in a garage. Allow enough time to set up where you'll be able to get clear video of her at both locations. Pan to the time display on your phone, or better yet make a call to some random number and film that also as a time stamp.

Then obtain a copy of the A & As to further corroborate her arriving home after a whole 5 hours at work. This might require an hour or so of time for two guys on their RDOs, but I'm sure more than enough people will volunteer to snap the leash on this ignorant mutt.

Compile a few weeks worth and decide how you want to proceed with all your evidence - maybe start with sending it to her via police mail with copies to the media to follow if she doesn't change her tune.

Beat this bitch at her own game. And beat her badly.

Unfortunatley, SCC I would have to agree with this one. By us complaining about quotas or other measures of effectiveness, trying to use legalities against our own bosses and Dept when someone tries to make guys/gals work; are we not doing the BS that idiots stonewall us/ legal System with? It's not a secret; it's more of a ginormous elephant in the roll call room that every cop knows how lazy this dept has become. We bitch and complain about new guys, running around proving themselves, tact guys kissing the bosses ass while slathering on more hair gel, connected people, you name it. The lost goes on. What has this job become and will it transform into? We're our own worst enemy. People don't back others up cause their of getting stuck on OT which will force them to miss their second gig, fear of a lawsuit or just plain laziness.

Helen needs to go have another drink. a great way to get back at her, is when she leaves early, call for her over the air, when someone answers up for her, just politely say "thank you" but you need to speak with that specific LT. then have the zone call her again over the air. Ask the zone for a time check every time she don't answer up to your call. A classic way to document when she leaves. It works very well.

I see nothing mentioning a quota. I would have to agree with the letter. You can't go out and expect not to generate any activity day after day and not have it be brought into question by your watch commander or other supervisor. You have to be able to justify your time on duty. Are there days when you hump from call to call? Yes. But in 014, that's not every day. I know. I've worked there. And I see it myself, you can't drive down Belmont, Diversey, Milwaukee, Western, Fullerton or Ashland for two blocks any time of day without someone doing something worthy of a traffic stop--be it for a ticket or a TSSS card. Most POs just can't be bothered. Well, if you can't do what you're supposed to do while on the clock, why should you be afforded the opportunity to be eligible for time and a half on your day off?

I agree with the others. Police officers are their own worst enemies.

C'mon, most of what I'm reading here is stone BULL! We know there's many backlog days, but THAT'S activity. We also know that EVERY day ain't a full day of backlogged jobs. We've gotten lazy or apathetic about what we do, and this is the result. Shame on us, and shame on you mutts who try and hide behind the union or justify their inaction with, "Gee, we're just too busy to do our jobs", or " that white-shirt never did anything on this job", or " I work in the ghetto (so most cops don't understand)". ENOUGH! It's embarrassing that the order had to be written.
And if you think the Lt is wrong, run the district numbers and PROVE it to be wrong. That computer will even tell you how many jobs you had to help you justify your activity when those damned clout baby no good white shirts call you out!
Lawsuits?!? You dog! Nobody's gonna make YOU do your sworn duty! (Newsflash: burning city gas all day doing nothing isn't doing your duty. Looking for trouble and upholding the law is.) Oh, and for all you shit-house lawyers; there's no quota mentioned in that order( check the definition), time due has always been the Dss or above's discretion, and coming to work on time is what 95% of us do!
Disgusting.

Ladies and gentlemen, no lawsuit here, she never says what numbers are required to checkoff. According to whats printed, she is saying don't come in empty continuously, and if the activity is something that can be done in 1 minute, what are you doing the rest of your time. Yes, we run from call to call, but that doesn't mean that you cant do a mover, a street stop, etc between jobs. We have become a lazy department because A: people don't know how to properly answer when asked about their activity, and B: Supervisors don't know proper legalities about how to document and confront officers who are slugs (and yes, there are plenty).

Ok, so she actually wants you to work ALMOST a full tour and get there on time and when at WORK actually do some work. What is the problem? They've tolerated this lazy dog do nothing behavior way to long. One traffic stop could be a mover and at least one contact card. Takes prob 5 minutes and if u brought just that in every day she prob wouldn't bitch. But that would take 5 minutes out of your 8 hour tour of doing nothing, and that's just asking way too much of you. Dogs!!

Anytime an officer puts on his uniform, they are working. Even if it's just presence and responding to calls, this alone does justify taxpayer money. As for activity, Has anyone in the higher ups think of the idea that maybe crime is down due to gentrification, it's no longer 014 of the 80'a and 90's. The amount of taxes and cost of living in Chicago has forced migration further to the outskirts boundaries of the city or to the suburbs. The city has defined our new method of policing by demanding our focus on presence and availability in dispatched response. A react method of policing, rather than proactive. Proactive activity is now frowned upon by white shirts. It creates work for them, liability for the department, as well as inflated unattractive numbers. The Department of revenue has meter maids out by the hundreds roaming the city to produce revenue activity at a fraction of the cost generating unforgiving activity with "parkers" technology has taken care of moving violation revenue with speed cameras and red light cameras. Officers today are doing exactly what the city, politicians, supervisors and citizens of this city have requested. Laws favor criminals because we have to follow many of them to a "T" while criminals don't play by any rules. Current supervisor do not know how to problem solve and are easily scared, in result, do not take care their "working "officers. Instead the working officers are thrown under the bus in attempt to cover their own behinds, and to please politicians and the public. These our are given boundaries... Leaders should lead and lead by example, actions speak louder than words. To be the police is not to be a people pleaser, but to serve and protect... Seniority means nothing, and so called "activity" means nothing. Only the favorites, the ass kissers, gossipers, connected family members, and officers with clout are given requested time due, "ghost pay roll" and whatever else there heart desires...

In the meantime, maybe someone in 014 can explain why the Field Lieutenant is pulling 5-hour days while everyone else is being denied used time that is owed to them by the Department?

Lt. D.H. / Meatloaf never even leaves the station.

The brand new for that is assigned to 1490 has less than a 1000 miles on it and it has been in the district at least 5 months.

She spends all 5 hours sitting across from Zemek and drives her fuckin' insane.

Wow, she sounds like a real treasure to work for. This same bs has been going on all over the city since McCarpetbagger came to town. Only exception is that no one else was actually stupid enough to put their threats in writing. To all those that say she is doing something good by denying officers time due because she wants them "to bring in more activity" I'll say this- IF she were a good boss to begin with, she would never have to demand activity from anyone in the first place. Officers have gone above an beyond for good bosses. That's because a good boss knows how to treat the troops- not fuck them over for the sake of impressing an incompetent superintendent. Officers are required to answer calls for service while patrolling the district- that's it. They are not required to jam up every citizen they see with parking tix, moving violations, and cont cards. Been reading many comments about how bad this woman was prior to this post, and sounds like she started this war with the watch long before they finally decided to hit her where it hurts- right in those empty number boxes at checkoff. Yes, there are dogs in every district, but a whole watch does not shut down for no reason; she gave them quite a few it seems. And now she is making her last stand in an attempt to use time due and the clock to force the hands of the officers for productivity. She must be desperate to publicize her position in that manner. That Lt needs wake up and realize that she will dig her own grave if she continues this path. The officers will win this one and get that incompetent woman launched somewhere she can't do anymore damage. Like anyone else on this job, she IS replaceable- those bars aren't special. Don't count on the FOP for any help- they are about as useful as a hole in a fishbowl. Stick to your guns people.

And to the idiots who just flat out refuse to "get it," when you're running from job to job to job, how is it possible to generate this "activity?"

There's a whole lot of shit-talk about "those guys are a bunch of dogs just stealing pay-checks..."

The same shit-talkers will run away and hide when in the name of generating this quota based activity, a copper gets jammed like a jelly-roll.

"If you're legit, you have no worries."

Anybody willing to chain themselves to the wheel of that statement and ride it all the way through the end in hope they'll emerge intact on the other side?

Pay no attention to the loud-mouths who openly brag about how many beefs they beat and how many law suits they've been subjected to and never had to pay a penny...

Repeatedly leading with your dick will eventually result in a hard kick in the balls... No matter how good your paper is, no matter how sharp you think you are and no matter how the boss says "Dese are MY GUYS!"

Plenty of chesty Saturday Night m/fers have been reduced to sobbing Sunday Morning penitents for believing their own hype.

Policemen, in THIS day and age ARE being made vivid examples of...

Administratively. Legally. Civilly. Politically.

"You guys act like you're afraid to do your jobs."

When screaming, threats and concerted efforts to create a hostile work environment fail to spur motivation to engage in unsound Policing practices like quota based "activity," the next very predictable move is to trot out the old canards of cowardice or laziness to shake things up.

Policemen for the most part (at least where we come from) don't have the luxury of being cowards or lazy.

However... Policemen are experts at survival, risk management and risk mitigation.

And this... There is much more to Policing than quota based "activity."

There isn't a management member left on this job that KNOWS that.

Lets face it. There are too many DOGS on this job. Blue shirts and white shirts. The fact that this Lt. and other bosses think that this sort of tactic is a show of leadership is exactly why there are so many dogs on this job.
What happened to leading by example?
What happened to treating people with respect? What happened to being a role model? What happened to being firm but understanding? What happened to being fair and treating everybody equal? What happened to inspiring people?

Obviously CPD supervisor training is woefully inadequate, so for you bosses out there (and P.O.s) a simple google search on what is leadership provides:

Leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of others, towards the achievement of a goal.

Hey Lt:
Leaders don’t lead by telling people what they have to do. Instead, leaders cause people to want to help them. A key part of this is cultivating your own desire to help others. When others sense that you want to help them, they in turn want to help you.

Your little note: complete FAIL.

Tons more. Look it up.

It sounds like a reasonable thing to require front line supervisors to actually supervise. It probably should not have been something done in the form of a general memo.

If the problem is that supervisors are not supervising, they should be the ones to bear the brunt of the well deserved kick in the back side.

Sounds like the Lt is only asking for the officers to do their job and be on time . There's nothing that can constitute a lawsuit or be deemed a quota. The officers in 014 on 3rd watch are split. Half are dogs that have never done anything / will never do anything. The other half are decent officers who want to work or learn how to work but will not do so until a certain LT on 3rd watch is removed. Just look how many officers changed their watch to avoid her at all costs. 013 got rid of her once. Funny how it's the other LT that signed off on this. Do you know what I did today Lt.?

I answered my assignments and managed to get through the day without being physically injured.

I did my best to make sure the bad people did not make victims out of the good people.

I walked, rode around, and ate amoung the evil element that if given the chance to get away with it would love to put a bullet in my head.

I was able to get a ringside seat view of abused children, women, and senior citizens. I looked at their wounds, both phyical and mental.

Then I come in to turn in paperwork and I'm told I'm five minutes early, need to turn in a To/From, and asked why I didn't write a "mover".

What do I think of the "Lt"s leadership?

Not much.

I have to agree with the above. This is your job and no matter how a "boss" got his stripes or bars, he is still the boss and can demand you be on time, work the entire tour and do some work. Many other departments out there force officers to keep a running log of what they do the entire tour. It could come here to the CPD. It has been talked about for many years, a activity log similar to the sergeants log. Way too many spoiled people on this job with plenty of civilians itching to replace you. Get a grip and be reasonable.

What is new about that? I say take a time due slip for being late then lay a spar on the person in addition. Nothing about quotas here, just asking for you to do some work. No body buys the BS that you are running from job to job every day of the week, and I don't care what district you are in. I have worked the worst in the city so I know that is BS talk from the dogs who were flipping burgers a few years ago.The city has the right to grant time off whenever they want. Maybe they should eliminate comp time? If they do you will lose one of the greatest benefits of the job, the envy of people in private industry. Get Lt Blackteeth out, and maybe someone will try to bring in an arrest once in awhile (and subsequently, maybe the dicks won't wait until 1st watch to come out when needed)

And you white knights on the blog complaining about dogs trying to defend this moron can just stop. Any supervisor who would put their name to this nonsense isn’t worth defending, take up another cause.

I to am a Lt. assigned to a neighboring District. I also have known Lt. S. as a good Police Officer and a damn good Lt. When you have Officers who continue to do nothing but whine, cry, bitch, and moan and then fall back on their Union Contract when they fail to produce day in and day out it takes a little out of the box thinking to attempt or even try to get results. I and she are sorry for those who do produce and are good Officers and she by no means is directing this at them, but in the end the bad just make things miserable for all.

It's a shame a boss has to remind patrolman to do the bare minimal. That's the duty of a boss regardless why they've done in the past. Remember, if you don't like it QUIT! Let's see if your new employer will put up with your poor work performance.
Officers work a full tour of duty and you are telling me activity can't be generated? C'mon now. Stop spending time complaining and have some appreciation that you have a job that doesn't require a high IQ score and get paid decent. Yeah... Some days we don't want , I mean we "cant" find anything "good" out there but sheesh write a parker each hour, talk to people and father contact cards... Something!
I know across Chicago you have more lazys then workers and it's a shame. Yeah... Don't get me wrong. Don't penalize by not allowing me to take time because of my co-workers want to mimic the same degenerates we lock up ( they feel entitled). Use the performance grading scale and use punish those who can write a contact card a day but can drive around the city shopping and eat good. God... Police are so lazy.

The IRS targeting scandal has apparently landed at the President’s feet with new revelations of illegal communications between the IRS and the White House.

The actions taken by the IRS in targeting conservative and religious organizations during an election cycle are among the most egregious violations of the public trust ever committed by a United States government agency against the people they are commissioned to serve.

Show up on time, be prepared, handle your jobs, BE WHERE YOUR SUPPOSED TO BE and bring in some activity. Not very hard - not very hard to achieve, even in a busy District. Even of morale was at an all time high - dogs will be dogs. Treat them as such. Good for Lt.

As soon as I saw this post I knew it wouldn't be long before the same 1 out of every 100 comments would be from clueless uptight ass kissers who think because they write parkers and are willing to sandbag regular people with movers, that they can now point out how "bosses asking dogs for a little bit of work" isn't anything to complain about.

read your own job description. Being available, being visible, responding, touring, stopping, addressing, assisting, and dealing with anything and everything... like an old timer once told someone complaining on the street about how all cops do is hang out at coffee shops, "we don't get paid for what we do, we get paid for what we might have to do."

If you're o.k with a boss blatantly confusing time due with her own arbitrary concept of time granted, in exchange for numbers that have nothing to do with deterring crime and only having to do with revenue and appearances, you and that boss belong in some other line of work.

a society elects leaders to budget priorities. Law enforcement isn't bought and paid for with revenue like we're a bunch of tax collectors for a king somewhere exacting ransom for protection.

unleash us to go after thugs and criminals. Let us clamp down on those and respond with like force against violent offenders and anybody thinking they no longer have any reason to fear hurting others.

until then, f*ck your parkers and movers.

From answering calls, traffic stops, gang enforcement, detective investigations, narcotics, DUIs, search warrants, & being fought with by assailants. It's been handed down by juries. They laugh at you, while their families cheer, & you go cry - for doing your job. Everyone needs to sit in these court rooms from bosses on down. Maybe this game will change, and better supervision will result. It's the elephant in the room- lawsuits. I'm not talking about off-duty drunk stuff.

Detroit Mayor Gets 28 Year Sentence For Corruption

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 10/10/2013 - 17:23

Following his "yearslong scheme to shakedown contractors and reward allies," Kwame Kilpatrick - who served as Detroit Mayor from 2002 to 2008 - was this morning sentenced to 28 years in prison for corruption. Regarded by many as a key contributor to Detroit's eventual downfall, it seems Kilpatrick is somewhat repentant, stating, "the people here are suffering, they're hurting. A great deal of that hurt I accept responsibility for." Agents who pored over bank accounts and credit cards said Kilpatrick spent $840,000 beyond his salary during his time as mayor. Having resigned in 2008 over a sexting scandal, the scale of his corruption, prosecutors added, "exacerbated the crisis."

There's nothing wrong with a boss asking or telling the troops to do work arrests tickets etc. The problem is when that boss never did any of that work when they were a blue shirt; but somehow got promoted anyway. Lead by example does not apply in most cases on CPD nowadays. Also bosses 'rewarding' you with time due for activity is asinine. Especially when certain officers do and get whatever they want regardless of activity.

Several years ago I would be saying how I hate dogs, but this isn't 1991 anymore. Back then your main goal was to make to retirement and collect that pension. Now fast forward to 2013 and that pension is in risk of being taken away, majority of 3rd/1st watch cars 99, IPRA, lawsuits and back in the 90's punitive damages were never heard of, cell phone cameras everywhere waiting to catch you doing something improper, and bosses and politicians who won't back you up. There is nothing in writing that states you are required to write x amount of Parker's, movers, CTA checks, curfews, etc. As long as you answer your calls and back each other up, self presevation mode it is. Shit I remember when officers had a felony call, male misdemeanor, female misdemeanor, traffic court, domestic court, and juvy court call. They would try and get each one filled for the month. Too much court ot was being paid and the city changed the whole court call system. This department doesn't know about a give and take relationship, all they want is to take and us to give, tow the line until the work environment and morale of the troops improve.

The only people I would feel bad about is a first responder or medical person who accidently was the victim of a needle stick. What many don't know and don't want to admit is that heroin is all over the suburbs. It is in places as different as Naperville and Ford Heights. Part of the problem is that parents, teachers and even police departments want to bury their heads in the sand and pretend it is not there.

What the bosses are to arrogant to realize is that this is not the same department they were hired on to. This is a department stretched so thin and exhausted that we don't do this out of laziness, but out of survival. We try not to get tied up on anything so if your friends need help, you are free. Generating useless revenue or activity is irresponsible and plays into Rahms hands. Any boss worth his weight would understand this, and put officer safety ahead of revenue.

You are correct. And then there are the OTJ Strokes like the one I ran into today near Poly Cleaners on Madison.

Bimbo parked IN the Crosswalk and left her kid in the car to go into the dry cleaners. Right next to the Tow Zone sign. That had an EMPTY Parking Lot.

So I ticketed it. Woman came out...F2 fyi...digging into her purse....whipped out her Star; and gave me the "I'm the Police" speech. My response was "well ma'am, you're illegally parked In the Crosswalk In a Tow Zone, and since there was no legal aged driver in the vehicle, I wrote the ticket." And then the "I'm more Police than you" comment. At which point Its a Comment from me "Contest the Ticket, Move the Vehicle: or I will Issue you a citation for Blocking the Disabled Curb Cut AND one for being in the Tow Zone."

What is it with some of you guys?

We are our own worst enemies.

I hope people on the job understand that those who protested in 1968 and tried to hurt the police are now running the country. From the President on down to our prick Mayor they loathe us and in this bizarro world portray the thug as the victim and the police as the offender. The calculated lack of manpower, run down equipment and lack of political support further punish us for the warped perception that the CPD was at fault in 1968. For a boss to be so naive that 5parkers and mover a day, from a watch that runs from job to job and works V.R.I. is police work is just plain ignorance. Hey boss go fuck yourself.

This is one fucked-up department. Top bosses are bizarre, the clouted get special study groups to ace promotion tests. Or they do marginally and make it on “merit” AKA “the full clout ride.” I’m glad I made sgt in the last class promoted without merit hacks (97). I never got invited to a special class either. Before sgt, I worked. I never killed myself trying to “prove” I was great to anyone. I just did my job. I brought in acceptable numbers. I liked what I did for a living.

Yes, morale is bad. Yes, politics rules the CPD – nothing changes. Yes, there is a mental midget at the helm. Yes, CPD is understaffed in many districts and units. There should be a better allocation of the limited personnel on the job. More detectives are needed. A real FTO program hasn’t existed in decades. There should be more ETs. Yes, lots of people get fucked out of the TD that they earned and should be able to take. The list goes on and on.

That being said, the job still has better benefits than many. The pay is not terrible – everyone always wants more money. Even running from call-to-call, the work is normally not that physical, except getting out of your car and moving up and down stairs. Yes, there are many assholes to deal with. Yes, there is the danger element, and the next ambush is ???? (that’s why its called an ambush…)

So if it’s not too much trouble, on days when you have some free time, try and be a little proactive, you might enjoy it. That means doing an occasional real investigatory stop without being too heavy handed and motherfucking everyone. If you find a real reason to lock-em up, do it. If they are rude, disrespectful, and basically shit-heads, oh well. The days of kicking people’s asses without being video taped are over. Just try and remember that they are uneducated and ignorant; they will never amount to anything in life; it is not worth making them a few thousand dollars wealthier by kicking their ass with some unknown camera in the distance; and they will probably die in the next few years from a crime of violence, disease, or overdose. If they don’t die in the next few years, they still will NEVER be as fortunate as you to have a decent paying job with benefits.

I’d like to suggest that if you want to see what hard work is for relatively little money, get a part-time job at Starbucks from 6am to 10am. Lets see how you feel after making 200+ steamed milk drinks for $8-$10 an hour plus tips. Lets see hour you react to customers who complain and say rude things to you – remember, you can’t kick their asses and lock-em up, or you’d be fired quickly.

Stay safe.

She won't get a prize for style points, but all she wants is for the paid employees to do their jobs. It's not just in 014, you can look at watches throughout the department. If you live in 022 or 016 or the west end of 008. , when's the last time you saw somebody making a traffic stop. 111th Street from Bell to Kedzie is like the Indy 500. Overheard at many a district desk, " I'm not going to traffic court, parking is a hassle, it's downtown blah blah". And the do gasses can save the "we run from job to job bullshit". Running from job to job doesn't stop the dogs from juicing jobs, taking 45 minutes on a no complainant noise complaint.

You want to ride around all day or night and not do shit? Ok but why the fuck should anyone let you go early or jump through hoops to make your life easier? You are getting paid, do your job. Rip away.

There are about 10 true dogs on 3rd in 014. Nothings gonna change them short of waterboarding. The solution is to detail the 10 every 90 days to other parts of the city for an invented special skill that each one possesses. Call it language skill, breathtech skill, whatever. Find what each has and show them how great they are. Then do the same to DH. The watch will be superstars at that point, but special interest groups will be upset because their people are being messed with.

That's the solution though. Honestly

Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick today was sentenced to 28 years in prison after he was convicted in March on two dozen federal charges.

The charges included racketeering, extortion and filing false tax returns. He was accused of using the mayor's office to enrich himself and associates.

Before he was sentenced, Kilpatrick apologized in court. "I say with every morsel of my being that I'm sorry to you," he said.

Fucking Daley raped this city for his entire 22 years! And so did his brothers. And why isn't the mumbling midget in prison for 128 years? No fucking justice, the black man gets 28 years and Daley gets a new girlfriend.

Daley was on WGN radio this noon hour on with Bob Sirott and his wife. What a complete soft piece of shit Sirott is. He throws his wife under the bus. On the air! Apparently they were going to ask Daley about his new girlfriend but Sirott says he knew nothing about it leaving his wife hanging. No wonder the stroke got fired from every station he ever worked at. Nothing but softball questions for Daley. Oh it got my blood boiling just to hear his moronic answers. Just get 20 years on and join the KMA club. When I had 20 and my partner had 30 we checked off with all zeroes. Of course we were on details for wires down, talked to citizens, we were looking for thieves who were breaking into cars along Ravenswood but still ended up with all goose eggs. didn't bother us any, I put down all 0's.

This female Lt. with a Buster Brown hairdoo asks us what we did all night. My partner, the 30 year guy, says, "Well Lt, I'll tell ya', we started out slow and we tapered off after that." With that he turned around and left. No way was Ms. Androgynous Lt. going to say shit to him. It was a beautiful thing. I had to bite my tongue to keep from bursting out laughing in her face.

Get a grip and be reasonable."

How much time you got on this job, son? Anybody with more than 15 years on this job will tell you we DID have a log that we filled out daily. Listed EVERY job and the code or RD number. Mauer did away with all that bullshit paper long ago since it was all stored on the computer anyway. Force me to keep a daily log? No big fucking deal there ace! Please correct if Im wrong I dont think your allowed to take time due and too work secondary employment . Isnt that a violation of the contract being that CPD is your primary employment. I've of people getting jammed up for this in the past. Please clarify.

10/10/2013 03:43:00 PM

You stand corrected. You're wrong. What you CAN'T do is start your part-time job while still on the books as working at the CPD.

In other words, if you get off work at the CPD at 1600 (4pm) you have to use an hour of banked time in order to get to your part-time job if it starts at 1600. They can't overlap unless you burned time due.

5 parkers, 1 mover, 1 anov and a couple of contact cards for 8.5hours of work is not asking for a lot. The problem is there is no motivation and no morale in this department so no one is doing anything. being the police is not fun anymore but its still a job and we must do our job. stay safe people

Though I don't disagree with you two in theory, I must reiterate what I've been saying on this blog ever since we got our 1.5% raise: DO NOT GENERATE REVENUE. Write your compliance movers. Lock up the shitheads. Get your CTA/El checks. DON'T WRITE PARKERS OR ANOV's.

Zemek made it off the list by score. So did herraty (sp). I saw a post about Mitros in 3 too. He made it by score as well. There are some fucked up bosses on this job, that made it by score. Most of the crappy bosses I've dealt with were promoted by score, both sgt and Lt. I'm not saying that there aren't a fair share of merit promotees that are not so bright, or don't have any balls to make decisions. But most of the bitching and moaning in regard to supervisors on this electronic bathroom wall, seems to be supervisors that made it off the list. Just an observation. Some are too smart for their own good, others won't let shit go and always have to get the last word in. Others think they are smarter than the entire world. The common denominator here seems to be that people forget where they came from, or were never there in the first place.

I for one would love for someone to post every promotional class in the last 15 years, with the ranik order of each person or an "m" for merit, to see who was score and who got a scholarship. If you're not ashamed to take a promotion by scholarship, you shouldn't be ashamed to put your name out there. That was one of the things that weis did right, he put it out there. And rightfully so.

Do nothing PO's at OEMC filed grievance for D2 pay. The actually won the grievence. Hurray!! Within the hour after, they were all dumped back to the district. Civilians making three times less replaced them.

10/10/2013 10:59:00 PM

Just so we're clear....the above post is completely inaccurate. Up until 1995 all dispatchers at 1121 S. State St, Communications Operations Section, were police officers. The police officers were promoted to the rank of "Dispatcher", which afforded them the D-2 pay status. In 1995, OEMC was created and the city hired only civilian dispatchers from then on. Any Police Officer Dispatcher could leave and go work in another Unit or stay at OEMC and be replaced through attrition. No longer titled as "Dispatchers" , we became "P.O.s per arbitrator award".
Most went to several different units for many years. 4 years ago, the city transferred all who had not been promoted or retired back to work as "Dispatchers" for unknown reasons ( OEMC manpower)? Of the 25 that were back at OEMC 4 years ago, only 9 are left, who haven't retired. Those 9 have now been transferred to districts to work in Patrol. End of (the real) story.

Actually, I have a few months under 14 years and I can remember filling out those humpers. Hey Lt MM from SWAT read what the Forbes magazine says about Leadership. You are a merit promotion and it shows. You have completely destroyed the morale of this team and it used to be great. Why don't you just leave? You don't do anything for this team. Everyone is leaving the SWAT Team because of you. I hope you make Commander and we get rid of you. You were useless as a Sgt and worse as a Lt. Must be nice to make an extra Fifty thousand dollars in overtime. Take you're Homeland Security checks and shove it up you're ass.

You don't deserve to be on SWAT or just maybe you're one of the fucked up ones that Lt MM tossed. Lt MM is a great boss. You're problem is you are a DOG!!!!!

Well Dad, I retired from the job a few years ago and I don't ever recall a beat log on a city wide basis. Yes, I spent a lot of time in specialized units, but was in patrol from 1993 until 2003 and never saw a beat log for patrol officers. So, I really do not know what you are talking about. But, the log that I saw proposed was a detailed minute to minute log and yes, a lot of things you do are on the computer, but a lot of things that you do are not. And, if you use false entries on a log they will get you for it, believe me. So be careful what you dismiss as no big deal.

I recall the time I came on the job, fresh out of the army. I worked at a factory until I was called to the academy. I loved the job, the pay and benefits, although nothing as compared to today. Slowly I soured on the job as did everyone around me. Through the years I saw every crop of rookies go through the same changes. Nothing new here. Cops bitch and moan and complain about everything even though they have it way better now then in previous employments. No, they are not going back to the trucking firm or to reaching or to nursing. They will stay until they feel like retiring. I have known many who left the job early for other careers, but came back to the job. Why is that?

As a boss with 37 years on the job, I can say this memo demonstrates extremely poor leadership by the Lieutenant. I would never have approved of it, if she worked for me. First off, there are a small percentage of officers that are dogs and you dont punish everyone, you concentrate on improving the performance of the poor producers.Try asking why they are not performing, and address those issues to the extent you can. Sure, you have to punish the dogs, but more importantly, reward your top producers. This demand on paper for more activity is leading to a dead end street; if one parker and one bus check are not enough, the next thing you are going to have to answer is, "what is enough?", and then you are establishing an illegal quota system.Does this Lieutenant ever back up her guys in the field? Go to bat for them when there is a BS complaint? Call them in and explain why you cant approve their time off request? Promptly respond if they need anything? If an ill-advised, unrealistic,counter-productive, bureaucratic policy comes down the pipe, do you try to apply it in street operations in a way that makes sense, or just mindlessly pass it along? The Lt. should be out in the field leading by example. There are ways to motivate people without resorting to making blanket threats like this on paper. Also, any white shirt who yells and swears at his people in roll call for more tickets and arrests,is a failed leader, based on my experience. My general rule was, just deal with people fairly and they will usually respond as you treat them. It isnt that difficult. In the districts Ive worked in, I would do whatever my guys needed, and in turn, my guys and they would do anything I asked of them.

LT Z was great until Commander Flower Powertrip ruined her. Along with, LT Meatloaf, they sabotaged the 014th district, and the current Commander & XO don't have the stones to make amends. Sure, the POs may be bringing in zeros, but the continued dogshit treatment isn't going to change that. You are treated like dogshit whether you are a worker or not, and this letter is nothing new. Get Lt Blackteeth out, and maybe someone will try to bring in an arrest once in awhile (and subsequently, maybe the dicks won't wait until 1st watch to come out when needed)
