Bedbugs?

Rumor that 35th Street is seeing some extermination crews lately to deal with an infestation of bedbugs? We didn't know there were beds there, but then we realized that when it became the "Public Safety HQ" that the firefighters probably moved a bunch of beds in there.

Any truth to the rumor?

Do they allow the homeless fill their foyer and halls like they do in the districts? Lice, TB, etc. never mind the stench in many districts. I'm not surprised.

Icky bad. Firemen have been known to be careless about their sleeping quarters and who they have let in.

From one who knows.

Bedbugs are only killed by heat. If they seal off a room and raise the temperature inside, you know that there was a problem. The bedbugs are resistant to insect toxins.

Same thing happened at OEMC years ago. Workers yes workers were bringing roaches and vermin from home via their clothes, purses, etc. A new rule was implemented that nothing could be brought to your counsel including a bottle of water. Disgusting how some people with well paying jobs live.

I heard our Chaplain (jokingly) describe the difference between Chicago Police and Fire.

He said why would anyone want to go to work carrying a gun when they can go to work... carrying a pillow.

A diner like that would be shut right down. But a police station, Chicago's Finest, no problem, bugs, lice, TB, asbestos, poor security in facilities. Fucking Brookfield IL has better security at their police station than any in Chicago.

Don't like it? Quit. That's what they tell you. Safety grievance? Shove them in your ass. The only remedy is to try to get a state or federal agency interested because the City of Chicago, our employer, doesn't give a shit.

Found a roach in a squad car one night while I was doing a report. I killed it, jumped out and went over every inch of the cabin, backseat, and trunk with flashlight to see if there were more. Can't say I'm surprised because we have too many slobs in this department that eat in the car and drop half their lunch all over the pdt and console and don't clean up after themselves. It looks like someone had a food fight in some of these squads- it's disgusting. But I guess I'll take a roach over the bed bug; at least they are easier to spot. How the hell does HQ have bed bugs anyway?? Are the bosses sleeping there? That would explain a lot!

A little birdie told me that the exterminators were at the AMC due to bedbugs recently. This is a secure "employee only" area. Not all dirty people are imports.

Leave the Building Engineers alone. Their job isn't as easy as you think it is, I found that out myself when I saw it first hand (18+ mos on site). New Installation beats the shit out of fixing/repairing/maintaining existing systems any day.

But you probably won't back off so here's something else to get your panties in a wad about; They Smoke their cigs up there too. It may be right out in the open, or inside of an 'Exhaust Air Plenum'. But they're lighting up somewhere in that Penthouse. Trust me, been there -- done that.
