Farm Detroit

  • Bankrupt and hemorrhaging population, the city of Detroit is banking on greener pastures to lead its rebirth.

A private company is snapping up 150 acres on the Motor City's East End -- property where more than 1,000 homes once formed a gritty neighborhood -- and turning it into what is being billed as the world's largest urban farm. Hantz Woodlands plans to start by planting trees, but hopes to raise crops and even livestock in the future, right in the midst of the once-proud city.
If it works there, start a "farm Englewood" movement. With Whole Foods nearby, they might even cut down on transport costs and who knows - honest jobs, honest labor. Oh who are we kidding, the illegals will be there in a heartbeat.

Well, in Chicago, we DO raise a lot of animals. But they're the 2-legged variety.

    Seriously?

As much industial solvents and heavy metals that have percolated into the soil over the years?

Why not just nibble on some wheel weights and sip some petroleum distillates?

    O_o?

We wouldn't touch a damn thing "grown" in the "brown field" farms of Detroit.
The stuff would be unfit for human consumption.

    As an aside...
Just wait until the poor suckers get rooked into buying on that "reclaimed land" at the site of the old U.S. Steel South Works.

    Ugh!

Besides... The city and the feds aren't saying shit about the cancer cluster Police stations that have killed more Coppers than any shit-heads on the streets.

    Farm Detroit?
    That's crazy talk!

The soil would produce crops with a bloody/cheap booze taste.

There are no illegals. There are only immigrants and voters. Borders like fences do not make for good neighbors.

    That ain't ever gonna happen.

Not until Flamin' Hots, Honey Buns and Mamba Taffy grows on trees, anyway.

They do grow stuff on vacant lots in Chicago. Broken glass, used needles, and stripped autos.

If you read up on this story, there are groups that oppose this. One group is mad that the city of Detroit is not giving the land to them for "free". Guess what kind of group. But the city is beyond the tipping point and does not have the authority to give stuff away otherwise they would. I love it.

That Detroit land was already bought up, prob at 8ยข an acre...Federal ObamaAid for Farmers subsidies already made many wealthy insiders even more wealthy. This is nothing new, called the Agricultural Adjustment Act.
The Govmint pays you NOT to farm. As far as The Englewoods Farm goes, I'm sure there's plenty of Aldermen who are already Illinois farmers collecting that Farm Aid for their vacant land. Maybe the old Michael Reese plot could become an urban farm too. It's for the kids and community bullshit has gone way too far.

They're going to grow Hi-Grade Quality Marijuana on those plots.

Call it MOTOR CITY MARYJANE or DETROIT DYNOMITE.

    For medicinal purposes only.

The statue symbol of Detroit used to be a giant clenched fist.
Now that hand will be holding a rolled joint.

    Remember it's for the children.

Englewood is going to become a new lake and stocked with catfish and carp. Mid night fishing allowed and people will be sleeping on the shores. But...no car repairs or loud music, let it be said and done.

I was recently in Detroit for a family wedding. What a fucked up place! The whole city except for the downtown area is just like Englewood. Never thought I would say this, but Chicago looks good in comparison.

Man, was a dumb. I always thought all that flicking-bright chips in the ghetto vacant lots were Diamonds ! I thought it was an extension of the diamond mines in Africa.
My partner told me these lots are protects and that I better not get caught picking diamonds off the lots.
Then after 5 yoj... I fell running after a mutt and ripped my knee open. When I got treated at the ER, I told the MD I fell on diamonds. He called me stupid and pulled glass from a 40 ounce-er. I guess growing up in Glencoe and getting otj in 1975 showed...

The guys of the CPD are still the greatest coppers in the nation ! Still miss the action till I die.
    Stay safe brothers.

Only reason murder rate is down in Chicago is more vacant lots , Cabrini green ,Robert taylorhousing projects gone , that's the reason
It's not the foot patrol or the box strategy , it's less targets and better medical care by cpd paramedics
