Another Asinine Statement

  • We’ve reported extensively about Chicago’s problem with gun violence.

Now Chicago police said they have seized more than 6,500 illegal guns this year. That’s 130 illegal weapons each week.

Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says that’s more than any major city and he says if you can reduce weapons you will reduce crime.

“Carrying a loaded firearm is the gateway crime to committing a murder,” McCarthy said.
Seriously? Does this ass not realize that thousands of police officers carry loaded firearms, not only on duty, but off? Does he know that hundreds of thousands of persons in 49 other states all carry loaded firearms and somehow stop themselves from committing murder on a daily basis?

And not to put to fine a point on it, how many aldercreatures are packing heat right now and manage to keep their greasy little fingers off the triggers? Of course, they're probably committing other forms of graft, corruption and assorted white-collar felonies, but they aren't truly rising to homicide as far as we know.

This tool really needs to stop tonguing Rahm's asshole.

Ot but still asinine. Has anyone ever seen a transfer order come out days late? Just curious because the last one is late. And it's a Little ironic that the office responsible for this as well as the jacked up promotional lists that were released then rescinded numerous times was controlled by a sgt that was just promoted meritoriously. So basically incompetence is still rewarded on this job.

Getting tired of the comments on the news about how 'police have to be retrained in the way they think about citizens carrying'.

NO, WE DON'T. We are NOT Tom Dart, who doesn't want civilians to be armed against criminals who would do them harm. We are NOT Rahm Emanuel, with his own agenda, or Garry McWhateverYouWantRahm.

We recognize we are understaffed and unable to help every victim at every moment. Then there's the little matter of the Constitution, which we seem to be more aware of and in line with than most career politicians.

We welcome the fact that the State of Illinois has been forced to comply with the law of the land and we're fine with it. (Hint: we've ALWAYS treated every citizen encounter with the notion they just might have a gun on them. This is nothing new for us.)

“Carrying a loaded firearm is the gateway crime to committing a murder,” McCarthy said.

Kinda like...

"'Government-sponsored racism' is a gateway crime to ghettos everywhere becoming self-cleaning ovens.

Or...

"Trampling crime scenes to the point spent casings get caught in the treads of your shoes is a gateway faux pas to yet another unsolved murder".

Or...

"Over imbibing at a work Christmas party is the catalyst to threatening a subordinate over whether rugby players are tougher than football players".

Or...

"Over imbibing at a Blackhawks game will be the reason for yelling obscenities and ignorant comments at a player on the opposing team".

Or...

"Over imbibing at a Cubs game will be the impetus to a domestic incident requiring on duty guys to 'separate the combatants' and send Mama on her way home".

These are just the first few examples that sprang to mind - I'm sure there's dozens of others.

You're an incredibly ignorant, undereducated buffoon... not to mention an absolute embarrassment, McCarthy. We'll all be much better off once your ship sets sail.

Who needs an Illinois Concealed Carry License?

Everyone who wants to carry a concealed firearm on his/her person in Illinois is required to have an Illinois Concealed Carry License except current peace officers and retired police officers eligible under a federally approved retired officer concealed carry program such as the Illinois Retired Officer Concealed Carry (IROCC) Program. Retired officers may be eligible to carry under either the IROCC Program or the Firearm Concealed Carry Act (430 ILCS 66).

On another note since the sergeants contract and lieutenants contract has been settled, with back pay the arbitrator would most likely give us everything they got, including the first year of back pay that shields and the rest of the goofs at flop neglected to send the letter about. Hey billy Doherty just looked over transfer order noticed your now assigned to 022 does that mean the hard working members can save that extra 140,000 you get in addition to your regular pay as your acting flop president now? We could use that money " billy the kid" to hire a pr firm that can actually tell the public what officers do!

How much does pat Camden make? He gives the same statement when officers are involved in shooting " the officer fired in fear of his/her life"! We could use that to hire the PR firm also!

Lastly mike shields on transfer order in 018 to have his brother protect the little boy! Is it true or is mike " Casper the ghost" anyone seen MIKEY!

2013 – Lowest Number of Law Enforcement Deaths by Firearms Since 1887 – Yes, 1887
December 30 2013
by Dan Cannon

We keep hearing from the anti-gunners about how gun crime is getting out of control and law enforcement officers are outgunned out on the streets. Of course, nearly all of the FBI’s crime numbers show a 20+ year low in homicide and violent crime, but why let facts get in the way?

Now we have another fact to disprove their point that “gun crime” is out of control. In 2013, the fewest number law enforcement officers since 1887 were killed by firearms.

According to the report by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund,

Firearms-related fatalities reached a 126-year low in 2013 with 33 officers shot and killed, the lowest since 1887 when 27 officers were shot and killed. After increasing dramatically in 2010 and 2011, firearms- related fatalities decreased in 2013 for the second year.

Thirty-three officers died in firearms-related incidents compared to 49 in 2012, representing a 33 percent decrease.

Handguns were the leading type of firearm used in fatal shootings of law enforcement officers in 2013. Of the 33 officer fatalities, 58 percent were shot and killed with a handgun.

As the report also points out, most shooting deaths were committed by suspects armed with handguns. This further disproves the fact that officers are regularly facing suspects armed with semi-automatic rifles which are most often the target of gun ban legislation.

Traffic related fatalities were the leading cause of death among law enforcement officers in 2013.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the officers who died in the line of duty in 2013 as well as their friends, families and colleagues.

Sorry SCC that this is OT but gotta get it off my chest. Yesterday I drove downtown to drop my daughter off at Union Station. Found a parking spot at Adams and Clinton. After pumping $6 into the meter I walked my daughter to the station. Walking back to the parking spot I see a big black caddy park in front of my car. The F1 in the caddy flips a handicap placard on the rearview, gets out of the car, sprints down the street and disappears into a building a block away. Pretty typical for most scamming shitheads in this city right! . . . Except this "person" was in a full CTA uniform, vest, jacket, hat, the works. Might have even been a supervisor.

Now many might say that maybe she was legitimately handicapped and the placard was legit, besides the fact that she sprinted down the street. Okay, I might agree with that, except I know a handicap placard is registered to a specific individual and given that fact then why is a CTA employee, a city employee, driving a vehicle with NO CITY STICKER!

Okay, okay, there will be those who say maybe she borrowed the car and its not registered in the city. I might agree with that, besides the fact that there was a CTA vest tucked in the back window that looked like it was there forever!

I don't know, there are an awful lot of maybes here and I might be wrong, but it sure looked fucked up to me.

The plate number is N939127 and the placard number is BG78288 if anyone is interested. Photos available.

Statistics prove them wrong, legally carried firearms are very, very, very, very rarely used in a crime.

I'd bet McGoof's ex wife and daughters all carry back in Joisey and NY.

scc mostly I agree with you if not all the way.. but there is also something that I think of when I think of people carrying guns in chicago... Its the guys I hang out with. Now, I dont hang out with criminals at all. I dont hang out with bad guys. Most if not all have never been arrested or had negative contact with the police... However, all of them love to drink on the weekends on western ave (beverly). Almost always there is a fight somewhere, not with my friends but at most of the bars on western there is a fight. People down here in mt greenwood, beverly and then you get the morons from alsip who are white and think they are thugs but have no backround love guns. I forsee a shooting at one of these bars within the next year. A fight that will turn into gunplay. guys here are not use to having guns, they are not use to having that responsibility. People from other states in towns grew up with guns and its not a big deal. Here in chicago its a novelty. Im all for concealed carry but I dont trust alot of people I know to carry a gun. No doubt the alley off western ave is going to hear gunshots at least once a week after the bars let out from some goof showing his friends he has a gun and is gonna shoot it off in the air. I guarantee thats gonna happen. I like it but I can also see that people fear it. I know I dont trust alot of people I know with a gun. Imagine the people I DONT know and are worse but will be able to get a gun. Its gonna end up with someone getting shot and killed after a fist fight and its gonna end up being a normal neighborhood guy who just drank too much. It use to be they would get in a fight and get beat up or beat someone up and now it could wind up with one of them dead from getting shot..

Well well well...

Scum-Times online is reporting two take-over home invasions.
One in Jefferson Park and another in Dunning...

What say you tax paying citizens about having your paid for Police presence stripped away from you by Rahm and McSteakHead to keep the catered to constituencies from totally fucking up the manufactured "crime is down" mantra so those two nitwits can have a talking point for their national ambitions?

Too bad the tax payers are generally nice hard working people who don't normally kick up a fuss about being lied to and stolen from.

Kicking up a fuss means that you have to act on your anger, hatred and disgust over what is being done to you and your quality of life.

NICE people SHOULD show these politicians what anger, hatred and disgust REALLY are because they stand to lose much more than the people who get their asses kissed on principle by the mayor and the so called superintendent.

Aren't you tired of tasting the repeated back-hand slaps they've been giving you?

By virture of the dearth of Police presence, Rahm Emanuel is telling and showing you where you stand in the city services hierarchy.

Just sit down, shut up, pay your taxes, fees and jackpot fines just for being constructive members of society.

Heh... If only the tax payers had some noisy-assed, home made, make believe clergy to march around and shout into bullhorns at city hall and Police HQ...

The nice people should act on their festering anger, hatred amd disgust.

Pay no attention to the high order hypocrites who believe and preach that "nice people" shouldn't show their anger, hatred and disgust over how far and how hard they've been shoved down the municipal pecking order.

"Nice People" SHOULD be about the business of settling scores in this town... It's the only way they can snatch back what is rightfully theirs...

Let those who contribute nothing but fuckery and misery be forced to seek out and feed on each other.

May the "nice people" begin to make themselves hard, forbidding and uninviting targets from here on out.

Dear media,

Why don't you EVER fact check? Do you really believe that this department seized over six THOUSAND guns?

Where some of those guns, perhaps, turn ins? Taken from homes (illegally) on other calls? Because I never see that many guns coming into the district numbers per week.

12/31/2013 02:30:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's almost 6 guns per district each day (2 per watch).
Is Gary now including weapons turned in as seized. I would think so seeing how they will be destroyed. I still don't see 6 (5.9) guns a day from each district. Yeah West and Southside districts were guns are more prevalent, but do they make up for all the rest of the districts.

12/31/2013 07:50:00 AM

I will correct you because your math is way off.

6500 (guns) divided by 365 (days) equals 17.8 (guns seized per day)
17.8(guns per day) divided by 23(police districts)............ Do you need me to keep going, or are you going to study harder for the next test?

Some po's aren't to good at math and talk before they should

Photos available

Happens all the time. The dogs are always pulling that shit. Have a grandma get the placard and put it in your car Nothing knew Everyone knows where they are doing this, but the CPD wont enforce it, neither will the revenue guys on the bikes. City hall have hotliones, start one for handicap violations, public would be behind it and there would be alot of revenue because of the high fines, City hall wont do it, They could put the revenue guys in those areas and make a fortune, but its easier to have them harass the northsiders who pay the fines

From a Retired 31 year guy...
Does anyone have an idea of how the Los Angeles Police Department deals with Civilian Concealed Carry? Seems all we hear about is New york and Chicago...okay, Texas, too.
The LAPD has everything in place I'd presume.

Just askin...not trying to stir the pot with that one.

BUT with this one:

I've emailed Mr Kenton Manning who runs IOCC for a definition of Civilian Carry -vs- Retired P/O's carry and what impact either could have.
I know all you h=guys have given your opinions and I appreciate that yet I'd also like to hear it from the State. They have no problem taking our money for that ridiculous qualification/target shoot every year.

A month ago, he told me he'd check with the legal Department regarding my inquiry.

I've emailed him a couple more times and he tells me these things take time...??

Tells me to be patient...??

Just so fellow retired and soon to be retired are aware...

Mr Manning runs the IROCC yet can't answer this question or verify everyones thoughts on whats legal or not??

I emailed him again today asking for an update and I'll let you know what he says-if he ever says anything that is.

Maybe if some other retired guys would ask-perhaps he'll answer you?

scc mostly I agree with you if not all the way.. but there is also something that I think of when I think of people carrying guns in chicago... 12/31/2013 10:30:00 AM

1. You need to get some new friends.
2. People need to learn self-restraint. You know, behave like adults.
3. Never settle a fistfight with a gun.

I really don't get it; I've had arguments with my spouse and never thought to go for the gun. Had differences of opinion with my co-workers, both on and off duty, yet none of us ever went for a gun. EVEN WHEN OUT DRINKING.

It's called self-control. If your friends don't have any, move on.

Absolutely, schools is where it needs to start. I'm lucky enough that I live in Lincoln Park and I have my daughter in a great school (La Salle Language Academy). Since I look so young, I get the argument from co-workers all the time, "Living in the city is great when your single or newly married, but once you have a family, you don't want your kids to go to an inner-city school" To which I reply I do have a family and I still live in the city, then the I'm given the irresponsible parent look. One time I was lectured on what a disservice I was doing my daughter by not raising her in the suburbs.

Sooo, you want to keep people here, have the best schools in the state in the city.

Its because of ignorance like this guy experienced that I am glad I work for the city of Chicago and thats why I think the residency requirement for city workers is one of the greatest laws past by this city EVER EVER! There are alot of people who work for the city with families and they often live on the southwest and northwest sides, the law forced these people to make due in the city and as a result they know its perfectly fine and plausable to raise children in the city. Chicago does have some of the best public schools in the state and it might even be because of the residency requirment that they remained so, it seems some of the most knowledgable people about city schools both public and private are city workers. It has helped create an educated populace even if they make up only a small percentage of those who work in the city. I often wonder the type of ignorance I would experience if I worked in the private sector, since my profession is urban planning probably less so but I am still shocked to hear about experiences like this. Its shocking that these are supposedly college educated people that have such ignorance to think that raising a child in the city is giving them a disservice.

Honestly I think this is the only way to truly make cities work is to have people who have a direct self-interst in the welfare of the city to work for its government. I know there will be some people moaning about the "freedom" of people to live where they want and limits the talent pool but the way I look at it is if your ignorance of living in the city prevents you from accepting a job at city hall then you are not worthy to work here to begin with, its the equivalent of botching a job interview. Im sorry I just take a very harsh view about this. The residency laws have helped Chicago maintain a substantial middle class presence in the city, the Chicago I am most familiar with and its probably my biggest pet peeve of all time when people think you cant be middle class with children and live in the city. If it wasnt for our residency laws Chicago might have turned out like Detroit.

1217am.....after reading the transfer order, I've determined that it is so late because it was just so big, lots of PAR forms to sift through and they had to be handled correctly to avoid grievences.

I would also say some phone calls had to be made by some people's "Guys" when things weren't going so smooth as they wanted.

There is lots of data entry and they also had to figure out where all the recruits had to be dumped after all the movement was made by the officers that made a move to get out.

That said--that PPO that got assigned to 016 must have some real juice--She better be prepared for 1a and 2a furlos for at least ten years.

Jamba Juice

Its the way of the CPD Some will come out of the academy and rave how great the job is and spend the whole time in 016 or 024 while others with 15 years on cant move
Dont want to hear the bs about those districts need young blood and that is what the 20% management could be used for. Also is all recruits went to busy districts, it would lower the bidding time to those good districts where younger guys could bid in

There are a lot of people who have those placards with disabilities that are not apparent. Like my biker friend who lost his legs to a "Bouncing Betty" land mine in Viet Nam.

The Parking Meter Lease Scam was a real crime; did any of that money go to help us or other citizens. Anyone who can get away from paying those crooks, which to this day includes Richard M. Shortshanks is OK as long as they don't flount it.

Yes, some people have 'invisible' disabilities, like heart issues, MS, etc., but this situation sounds more like a borrowed/confiscated/found placard being deliberately misused.

No one's been tried and convicted, but it DOES sound like something that should be looked into.

Oh, and trying to deflect the conversation to the meter deal is very Rahm-like. You're learning, little City Hall intern. You're learning.

There were 5 openings in 014 but only 4 people "bid" into 014.

I figured there would have been more especially since
LT. Bat-Shit Crazy D.H. will no longer be a DSS.

Why do people keep using the meaningless term "gun violence" to describe a murderer killing someone using a gun, or a robber robbing someone using a gun, or....

Shall we call rape "penis violence"?
Ban "illegal penises"?
